  1. Yes, Americans have to be vigilant that their society does not become a police state. At one point there were rumours of the elections beng cancelled by the right wing, due to the threat of terrorism. Why are police arresting 1000s of legitimate protesters in New York this week, eh?
  2. Someone can make that equally ridiculous claim for the Israelis. Please lose the racism.
  3. That doesn't make sense. Kids are taught lots of things in that they may or may not use later on. Trust me if you learn French, and later on you visit France you will have a great appreciation for knowing French. So many more doors will be opened for you. Why do you think their is such a demand for French immersion in Western Canada? Are all these people wrong? Of course not. They have a vision for their kids, and it is just too bad the rest of the country hasn't quite grasped it yet. But they will.
  4. Let's keep the God crap out of it, eh! Wake up and learn your history or your country.
  5. August1991.....that was an excellent post. The bad news is that unfortunately most people who post here won't get it. It is unfortunate how mean spirited people can become. I realize we are dealng with yah hoos here, but it is nevertheless quite disturbing. Hot dog eaters is a good way to describe them. I shudder to think what would happen to Canada let alone, French in Canada, if Quebec ever quit. The good news is fortunately they don't represent the majority of the people in Canada.
  6. The only thing dying around here is your brain.
  7. Bloc key to Liberal fortunes So our federal government depends on the whims of a political party that wants to destroy our country, eh!
  8. Says who. This is such nonsense. Why deprive children of aspiring for the top positions in the land by not teaching them French? Why deprive children of not being able to converse with the people in France when they visit their Chateaux, their Museums, their Art Galleries. Why derprive them of reading such great literature giants as Victor Hugo? Do you have any idea how many people are in French immersion in BC? In Alberta? It is time for English Canada to bite the bullet, belly up to the bar, or whatever, roll up their sleaves, and start working to earn their citizenship in this great land of ours. We all have responsibilities in life, and English Canada needs to stop bellyaching, and just do their homework assignments, and stop making such a fuss about learning another language.
  9. This week 500,000 demonstrators marched against the police state and fascist tendencies of George Bush. 2,000 people in New York City this week marched on the mass media outlets such as CBS, CNN, etc. to protest their corporate orientated agenda. Where's the media coverage, eh?
  10. Yup, I believe English folks need to learn French and vice versa. Call it hypocritical if you wish but as far as I am concerned, we would all benefit from being a truly bilingual country. I don't expect adults who have already done their schooling to participate, but everyone else who is in school needs to be in a bilingual school. No ifs, ands, or buts. And if adults took all their energy that they use up fighting bilingualism, and put it into learning English or French, we would become a much healthier society. Of course the separatists don't want that, it would take the wind out of their sails, and they would not have anything else to complain about.
  11. I think the politicians who are the most useful are the ones who break party ranks and say what they think is right. Politicians like Chuck Strahl, Carolyn Parrish, and Svend Robinson.
  12. The wrong medicine Kirby & Keon's solution will only make health care worse and why their ideas are even being discussed is a national disgrace.
  13. Former central bank governor questions proposal for competition in medicare Unusual CanWest says. What they really mean is anything that does not give carte blanche to their corporate buddies, to milk the Canadian health care system, and hose the Canadian citizens, is considered unusual to attempt to discredit the idea. How many other people are sick of this right wing crap reporting? All Kirby is is a lobbyist for a HMO or whatever they are called.
  14. Black and Radler Benefited From Hollinger Loans What kind of sickies are we dealing with here? This is a really good example of what is wrong about allowing these business tycoons so much power in our society. Business leaders needs to be stripped of their power, they cannot be trusted, they are too greedy, and given the opportunity they will screw anyone - the government, shareholders, tax auditors, business associates, whatever. The business community is very sick and needs to be kept on an extremely short leash by our governments who are supposed to represent the citizens although often you would never know it.
  15. This guy Trent can stick it as far as I am concerned. He makes out that having one's education in French is a fate worse than death. People need to stand up to people like this and defend the French school system. Guess what? I attended the French school system, and I am still able to read and write and speak English. Imagine that!
  16. Family fights ruling on schooling What's the father's problem with French schooling? If he already has had his child in French immersion, he realizes the importance of his children learning both of Canada's official languages, so why is he making such an issue about his child having to go to a French school? And as well, it is time for the English bigots to stop their opposition to bilingual schools in this country. We need them, and it is time for educators and the federal government to intervene and bash a few of these tetes carres!
  17. Corporate Media is destroying the democratic process by only offering news coverage of events that are supportive of corporate businesses. Any activities that challenge the business community and corporate profits are purposely dicredited. Protests don't get coverage any more they way they used to to. How else are alternative points of view going to be expressed? Conrad Black, Isez Asper, and others of their ilk have cut investigative journalism to the bone. All we get on the news now are one-sided biased pro-business points of view. No need to wonder why young people tune out, turn to drugs, or whatever. They are not stupid - they can see what is going on. We need a government who is going to seriously take on the task of breaking up these media conglomerates. These media empires are responsible for destroying our society's heath by poisoning our kids schools with junk food, etc. Anyone who voices opposition is given short shift, or dicredited in the media. We need a law in Canada that makes any advertiser pay for a consumer's group to come on after their ads to refute the bullshit that is constantly being forced on us.
  18. I think we have three serious issues in Canadian politics that block your local MP from doing a good job: 1 - party politics - we would all be a lot better off without it, and then your MP could really represent his or her constituents, and not have to vote the party platform all the time. 2 - secrecy - 99% of the stuff politicians deal with should be above board and in public view. (There is nothing like a little publicity to make people act more appropriately). 3 - power of the PMO. It is is absolute nuts to have built up such a massive department where the real power in the country exists, exclusive of our MPs, and most Canadians don't even know who works there, or what these folks really do.
  19. Speaking of the Tories, apparently there has been a merger between the Unity Party and the Conservative Party of BC. Some people feel Campbell is too close to Martin so they plan to run candidates under the Conservative banner in the coming election. Vaughn Palmer has a column about it today in the Vancouver Sun.
  20. One effective remedy to deal with attacking pit-bulls is to put some lead in their left ear. How would you do that you ask: With a f****** gun!
  21. Get public involved in election reform: NDP I think what is destroying politics in Canada are the political parties themselves, so I see this opportunity as a brilliant suggestion to remove the politicians from the political reform process.
  22. -from today's Globe: If independent retailers owned gas stations instead of the refineries, do you think the price of gasoline would go down? Yes 3316 votes (50 %) No 3328 votes (50 %)
  23. Looks like Conrad and his wife may end up in jail: Walter Mitty life of media magnate turned robber baron
  24. NDP wants 'assembly' to study electoral reform Finally some party wants to seriously address the issues of the democratic deficit and electoral reform. I don't care who gets the credit for it, as long as they just do it.
  25. I remember when Black moved his company out of BC when the NDP got elected. What a wretch of a human being. If Chretien did one thing right, it was to stand up to this freak. I hope he gets jail time. And who ever said having a competitive nature is some kind of positive trait?
