i find the whole thing really interesting. Trump is obviously on a tightrope. he appears to believe very strongly that unless he can get the economy moving that his re-election is in jeopardy. but even though he can have any "expert" in the world, he can't find one to support his "back to work, everything is cool" sales pitch. in his usual way he first finger points at some perceived enemy. he is pointing at governors who are shy to open the economy. liberate! and yet, he could waive his hand and change federal guidelines eliminating any epidemic measures. but he doesn't. so he is trying to have it both ways at the moment. this could really sink him and just because of his leadership on response. if the feds worked with states to nail this down whatever to takes now, then it might be over till fall. but this walking both games just delays and causes it to go on and on due to thousands still coming down with the virus. the D's already see an opportunity with seniors and since seniors are most vulnerable to the virus then they are going to be looking at the fed response very closely. "no clear evidence". that doesn't mean that its not possible... just that evidence is insufficient at that time. but i can see why the Trump administration might be upset! the WHO repeats what China says but not what Trump says?! the thing is... "no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission" on Jan 14 is very possible. while just about everything Trump says doesn't pass even first grader logic.

the WHO is an international body without any formal power over ANYTHING. there are no international mandates that require any country to participate or share information with them at all! from their very mouths, they rely on other countries to participate on the honor code, because they have no power. from the WHO's perspective, they are just reporting what those countries like China have to say about their situations with full knowledge that it may not exactly be correct. but at the same time they believe that having incorrect information is better than no information at all and that placating certain powers is the only way to keep dialogue going. this is rather common stuff for non-profit international organizations who are at the mercy of those they report on for funding. but Trump and the Trump machine don't understand what the WHO is, what it does or how it works. just finger pointing.
