So what? He was wrong.

What do you expect the smartest PM in recent memory to say? "We're gonna win, suckas!"? It can't come as a surprise to you that Harper says that. He'd say that if he were at 91% and they were sacrificing bulls and building golden statues in his likeness. And Topaz...you "heard" the taliban were moving into the western provinces? I heard they were getting their asses handed to them. That's what I heard.

As you surely must know, this is going to take a few weeks to sink in. Probably less than a quarter of the electorate even know there's a cut to the GST at this point, but as people who make large purchases begin to find out and the word spreads, the Tories will get a boost. Not only that, but if an election were called today, all the buildup will come crashing down on the Liberals and quite possibly bury them for a decade of insignificance. It's really quite pathetic when a minority government can rule like a Chretien era majority because the Liberals are so terrified of an election that they dare not oppose anything. The Libs wear it poorly too, since they promise one week to man the barricades, and wilt the next week, mumbling something about it not being so bad after all.

I have a really really hard time believing that, sorry. Especially since that pic you posted of yourself suggests that you are a 30 year old teenager who would have had to have kids at 5 in order for them to have made it through university by now.

Sure...anywhere but here.

How best to defend our values against Suicide Bombers?
ScottSA replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
What annoying little gnats the left can be at times. It takes a real low-brow to sit on the sidelines and snidely mock one's own culture when it faces danger. -
Oh what nonsense this is. The UN doesn't even exist outside of the security council, and in terms of financial support, it doesn't exist outside of the US. The General Assembly is an increasingly radical talkshop, full of otherwise unemployable national elites, and the security council is essentially a working arm of the US state department, with the added joy of annoying post-relevant and population bomb countries like France and China supplying the stumbling blocks whenever possible. The only "aid" that Africa gets is USD and whatever "Organization of African Unity" (ha...that's a laugh in its own right) troops the US manages to bribe into "peacekeeping," under the assumption that poor black villagers would rather get shot than see a resurgence of colonialism through palefaces running around. Wouldn't want a repeat of the century of peace and prosperity that colonialism brought (Belgium excepted), now would we?

Crisis feared as US water supplies dry up
ScottSA replied to margrace's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Oh good greif. There won't be a noticeably difference for decades if there even is then, so lighten up. -
Right. Any chance of the English edition being posted? Oh wait, never mind.

Charter of Rights: 25 Years Later
ScottSA replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You're mixing concepts here. To equate limiting immigration to radical and complete isolationism is ridiculous. Of course we can control our own borders. Quite easily. We can't stop every single person from coming here, but we can sure as hell stop inviting them here, and make it difficult for them to survive if they do manage to make it. You're just muddying the waters. -
The discussion underneath is the best part. I laughed till I cried. Dunno why...it isn't really that funny. There are pages of these stuff, numbered above the picture, and every single one is worth a read! http://www.somethingawful.com/d/fashion-sw...at-2.php?page=7

That is quite a novel idea, actually. Of course before the errrr.... "youth" started rioting, the spoiled privileged white kids would riot first...but after that smoke cleared, the Muslims would be heading for the docks, all right, merrily torching cars en route.

How best to defend our values against Suicide Bombers?
ScottSA replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
There is only one way, but that won't happen until we've suffered enough casualties to ask for it to happen. Until then the great majority of us will continue fighting abstract wars on anonymous bulletin boards while a few brave young men do the actual fighting. It will eventually happen though, because unlike the Vietnamese, these barbarians are in our midst, and they can hurt us badly at home. -
Conservatives Admit that Daycare Progam
ScottSA replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Either that or stop whining. My solution certainly doesn't entail looking to daddy government to replace daddy, if that's what you're thinking. -

South Asians take over new hospital!
ScottSA replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wow, I guess more than your books require adjusting. See, the trouble with playing dumb is that...well, it makes you look even dumber. It may salvage whatever shreds of dignity you manage to escape with when your point is shown to be entirely specious, but it's kind of like Basil Fawlty getting caught in one of his situations, and instead of just admitting that he's wrong, running with it until he looks ridiculous. -

Get married. -
Yes, it's time to stop couching it and just say it.

Yes, I got my indicas and sativas reversed. See the damage pot does? And look what it's done to Shavluk. Oy vey. Take heed. There are no "rights" involved. Do you know what a "right" is? That word has been so cheapened by every silly interest group out there claiming it that it's virtually meaningless, and I frankly can't think of a sillier interest group than the MJ lobby.

Dion to "Re-visit" GST Tax Cut if Elected
ScottSA replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That's the crux. The Liberals variously promised to cut it, scrap it, and pay down the debt with it, and each time things became "too complicated" to follow through; the complication apparently being a majority mandate and a few more years for the electorate to forget. Even if the Tories had kept a couple of their promises, they'd be head and shoulders above the Libs, but instead, for the first time in well over a decade, a political party has actually kept most of its promises. During a minority government, yet. -
Sure. Is "pothead" ok? How about "criminal?" Yeah I smoked dope. Probably a lot more than you, son. I know all about how it makes you feel. Sometimes it's a head buzz and sometimes its a body stone, and sometimes, if its a nice light sativa, it's a euphoric high, and I liked that best. I never much cared for BC bud, because it knocked me on my ass in a big way, and I do like afghani, although the buds are so damned small it's not worth growing yourself, and if you import it, it's all dried out. But that's not the point. I also know that it creates an emotional dependency...not a strong one in my case, but an overwhelming one in many cases. Both of us know, if you're willing to be honest, that there are people out there who simply can't deal with the world without pot. And that's not a good thing. It's not a "right," it's not a "club," and it most certainly isn't a "culture." It's a drug problem. No one smokes dope to savor the taste of burning THC and zigzag rolling paper, they smoke dope to get high. You can paint this pig with lipstick and dress it up with a gucci handbag, but it's still a pig.

Conservatives bringing back death penalty for Canadians abroad
ScottSA replied to a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This has been the Liberal game for some time; attempting to frame the debate by appeal to some mythical "Canadian" value they pull out of a hat, check against Liberal policy, and toss out as a truism. I sincerely doubt that the majority of Canadians are losing sleep because a sociopathic multi-murderer is going to be put to sleep in a much kinder way than he offed his victims. -
South Asians take over new hospital!
ScottSA replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Your books probably need adjusting. I suspect Judaism is about the third largest religion in Iran at the moment too, but it's hardly a significant minority. -

It's sad to see the trained monkeys applauding the demise of their own culture. -
And I highly suggest you take another look at your thesis. To compare a bunch of dopeheads to wine connoisseurs is nothing short of weird, and to claim that cannibis "culture" is the herbal equivalent of a fine wine club is like comparing a mechanics' night at the local strip club to Le Mans. Yes, I know they have cannabis cups in Amsterdam, where they "sample" strains of dope, but if they behaved like that at a wine fest, the entire joint would be puking or passed out within the hour. Looking at pictures of those "Cups," I can see why they all dropped out...no one in their right mind would hire the freaks. And guess what? When a wine tasting is over, no one cracks open a dozen beer and gets to serious drinkin' for the next few days, but when a Cannabis cup is over, everyone goes home and rolls a spliff. And then they wake up the next day and do the same, and the day after that... You can call it a "culture" if it makes you feel better, but it's an emotional dependency. That's all.
