  1. Right, Canadian Blue and Slavik are wasting their vote, but you wish to choose a party that's intent is to hijack parliment and promote the breakup of Canada. Great choice.
  2. Often a quote of Liberals and Conservatives. To devalue anyone who votes and tell them that they are voting for nothing, is both incorrect and disrespectful. I respect anyone whom takes the time to go to the polls and vote.
  3. I have no idea why the media buys into these stories created spin doctors and the counter spins and hyped up outrage of both parties. This is what puts alot of people off. That others in politics and on these forums would figure that something as inane as this, is a topic of extreme importance. I hope these children grow up soon.
  4. I am certain that if the RAE government eliminated the position of Revenue Minister, then this is a frivolous Cabinet Position. Michael Chan is going to score an extra 40,000Gs for the title. Good for him. I am certain that this has more to do with Securing the seat for the coming election in October, then it has to do with benefitting the people of Ontario. While this is tactically a clever move, it shows how out of Touch the Government is with the rest of the province.
  5. I am sure this isn't a record. But I didn't see this one coming. Their are a number of Liberal MPs whom are Cabinet Material, but this MP goes straight to the high pay position. Nothing like paying your dues. http://www.thestar.com/News/article/184524
  6. He is a busy dead person. But not nearly as busy as Ayman. I wish Bin Laden was dead. But that is wishful thinking not fact. And I am not into a Polynewbie style conspiracy debate.
  7. Bin Laden is hiding in Pakistan crossing the Afghan border at will if need be. Along with Ayman Alzawarhi and Omar. Training camps are operating in Pakistan. The Pakistani ISI has one of the largest sources of Human intelligence in the region. Unfortuneately they have a large element that supports the "Taliban" as the organization that can provide stability in Afghanistan and align the Pashtun elements with their country. Western Intelligence may be good, but the Human Intelligence of the western world is substandard. Only recently, have NATO forces realized that Afghan operatives and sources can provide more accurate information then all the Satellite and drones scanning the region. This has been the main reason claimed for the success in attacking and killing a number of higher Taliban elements. But this can continue for years with no resolution and a never ending line of leaders and recruits for the cultural issues you imply above.
  8. Yeah, Sikh terrorists are influencing Dions choice. I don't think so. I think you are buying into hype more extreme then the claim. Dion may not be the best choice for leader. Perhaps now, the Liberals are having second thoughts. The party is split and he is forcing them to unify. I am not certain this is a good strategy for the Liberals. But to hear the CPC members and supporters tell it, he is getting his marching orders from terrorists. I don't buy into the radical hype. It is this over the top stuff the CPC do, that puts me off. If Dion is making a bad choice for his party, then too bad for him. He will pay a price.
  9. I always "felt" that PET didn't think we needed a military. While I would like a robust military, I don't want this military co-opted for missions as if we are some satellite state. Cooperation and mutual exchanges, I have no problem with. Just to remind certain players, that this is our military, and we are strengthening it for our committments and interests. I have no problem with sitting out of actions such as Vietnam or Iraq. While the CPC and Harper himself campaigned on our need to be there, and we would been there with his leadership, that is ok, As long as our government is making the decision, be it a good one or a bad one. There are people out there whom believe we don't need a military. I am not one of those people. Nor should we bow to the foreign pressures to engage in futile wars or poor anti-terrorism tactics.
  10. They may or may not. But really whether they leave it at 09 or 12, they will be looking for an exit strategy sooner or later. The difference between that strategy, 2 to 4 years. Pakistan isn't going anywhere, and we aren't going to do anything about it. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index....191&qpid=188779 with allies like these.... BTW. Read full article for Afghanistans rebuttals.
  11. Why didn't the Tories list this organization as a terrorist organization? They were in power at that time. I can't believe you have taken this troll bait. Since when is Paul Martin the topic of the day. If this was so important why wasn't this an issue when he ran for the Prime Minister in 2004. It's not. Fact is, Harper made a tactical error, and his supporters are tossing the smoke grenades.
  12. Luckily I didn't post that, as you made note of it here. Very adventureous of Mr. Rae. I thought he was going to go after a Toronto Riding held by the NDP, his old Brand. I even thought he would be bold enough to challenge Jack Layton, Olivia Chow, etc. He appears to be taking a gimme seat.
  13. Elevating the debate? Decorum would suggest that "Prime Minister Stephen Harper is Scum". No that doesn't seem any better than the actions of Stephen Harper. I am really against this kind of stuff, even if I am trying to bring some humour into the mix. I don't think this is going to have legs, even if the Conservatives throw more dirt at the Liberals to get peoples attention away from his indescretion. Immediately they went on the attack. Basically suggesting the Liberals support Sikh Terrorists organizations, Islamic Terrorists Organizations. This only lowers the perceptions of the CPC and the Liberals. No wonder they are stalled in the polls. And Harpers rosy numbers, can depreciate if this does get out of control, like his 2004 gaffe. This could take off all the attention from their bills and could lower any benefits gained from the negative add campaign. Does sell newspapers though.
  14. Harper wanted a deal for a deals sake. Emerson, who is a Liberal or Conservative on the basis of need, cut the deal. Just more of the same. I also believe the figure was 500,000 IIRC.
  15. Regardless of the conflicts, the financial aspect of the underfunded military and it being bluntly pointed out, has ruffled the feathers of many.
  16. Now that would be scarey to believe.
  17. I did the same for this one as well. I just can't follow the arguments when the quote structures get messed up. And sometimes they do. My apologies again if this offends anyone.
  18. Hillier came to see us doing our pre-deployment training. He spoke to everyone, then took us officers aside and had some words. There is not doubt in my mind he is the best General I have ever met in 18 years of service. He is a soldier, not a politician, that makes peole nervous. Canadians in the know are more used to seeing a Baril, or De Chastiline as the CDS, a quiet "lap-dog". Hillier is a combat leader, more in line with the CDS generals that ran the military in the 1960's & '70's, fromer WW2 officers. You cannot believe everything you read in the press. The media is mostly speculation, not fact. Nobody here, or in the media is present at high level defence meetings, so it is speculation. O'Conner & Hillier are BOTH combat officers, from the Canadian Armoured Corps. I have met both of these men, had dinner with O'Conner. I have full faith in their leadership. I would follow Hillier to hell & back. You do not see military members complaining about them... As for the so called rift, media speculation. There is not doubt they have differences, they're human remember. Our defence policy has always been Canada First, this is nothing new. You start defending Canada on the beaches of Europe and the Middle East, ot the beaches of Nova Scotia........ I was trying to read the other post with the quotes are messed up. So I thought I would clean it up, so I could read what Weaponer had to say.. My Apologies if this is not a proper ettiquette. I will delete it if there is a problem
  19. Yeah I know, I got this off google. I couldn't resist.
  20. The truth is more problematic, then a "coverup". Not sure what you are meaning? I am saying that the conflict is real. That it is not a coverup derived by spin doctors for our consumption. Like any issue, you have to read some articles that go a ways back. Goose Bay, Trenton, JTF2. And how Hillier says OConner is suggesting Civilian Defence For Political Reasons. Their is alot of truth in the statement. Likewise, Hillier is being labelled as campaigning for his next job. I am not fond Hillier. But what you are labelling Hillier being biased about, is more about Hilliers attitude then his actual bias. Not that he doesn't have one. But at the end of the day, he used his typical colourful style to speak about cut backs in the 90s. Somethat that other government departments have pointed out in their fields during this same period, without any flare. Hillier has a vision of the military and where he wants it to be. To heck with anyone whom disagrees with him. O'Conner included.
  21. Thanks for the Link. I Concur with your assessment of Nuclear Proliferation and Pakistan.
  22. Preston Manning really wanted an active parliment with lively debate. I recall Ed Broadbent being very disillusioned when he returned regarding how much parliment had degenerated into name calling and heckling . MPs have been talking about "decorum" and quite frankly, the posters on this forum (good, bad and ugly) have shown better debating and decorum then our parlimentary elected officials. I enjoy watching Tony Blair in action.
  23. The truth is more problematic, then a "coverup".
  24. Trying to increase benefits for Military personel doesn't gain Layton any "Left Wing" votes. It doesn't get him any military ones either. From what I am able to assess, and don't quote me because I am speculating, but it would appear that alot of the ideas are coming from Peter Stoffer. I have heard this guy on TV, and I like him. That said, the NDP were clearly against this mission and it's extension. I don't know their reasoning, but I do know my own. The NDP couldn't buy a vote if you gave them the money for the bribe. Most of those NDP seats held, are held by hard working MPs and not MPs that have come in during a "wave" or get elected because the riding has been a Liberal or Conservative riding since confederation. But certainly grandstanding, is something new that Jack Layton has brought to the NDP. And he is pretty successful at that since most people talk about him and the NDP and that hasn't happened since the days of Ed Broadbent. (Different styles) It was when Layton used O'Conners own words as Defence Critic for an exit strategy, that got him the nickname "Taliban Jack". Never did hear "Taliban O Conner" when the Liberals were in power and the Conservatives were questioning sending the military unprepared for the mission in an unstable country with no exit strategy.
