You got money from the CPC government which is about to run a $30billion deficit. Sure you are Hmmm, I could have sworn GWB has been in power since 2000. I guess he proved to be blind for 8 years while these policies. Policies which are heavily supported by Republicans and Neocons alike and are criticised for not going far enough. Policies which the current Federal Government would have been more then happy to follow and implement if they had the time. But then the meltdown put a damper on that idea. Our banks are heavily protected. The most protected sector in Canada. No one else has the security or protection of banks. Protectionism is a good thing. But you don't need our money to prop you up. Give it back to our CPC government. We have some new Senators to pay.

It would be foolish to loan money to a company that is asking for money from the US government or it faces insolvency should this money not appear. If the US government or no other major organization/bank come up with the mid term amount, loaning money to a company planning to declare bankruptcy makes no sense. But, yes, an much larger dynamic indeed, which I am certain you are more aware of then maybe someone with no time in the industry.

Tories predict $30B deficit next year
madmax replied to ThatGuy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Highly unlikely. Regardless, what the hell is this government doing? Oh, wait, the answer is nothing. They are on holiday running up large tabs on the taxpayers money while the deficit rises. -
Public Sector Employees (MANAGEMENT AND BARGAINING UNIT)

There is a difference between politicians. OBviously a 25% pay cut for politicians is not nearly enough. -
Public Sector Employees (MANAGEMENT AND BARGAINING UNIT)

Obviously you have no idea that most of the private sector roughly 88% is not unionized in Ontario. There is no negotiation when the employer tells you your new wage, and pay cut. I have watched entire management teams walked into a room, have their vacation weeks trimmed by 1 to 2 weeks, pay reduced by 15%, and pension plans eliminated. And those that complained, soon found themselves on the outside, looking for a better job and not finding it. Wages have been going down in Ontario in the industrial sector since 2005. -
I wasn't... Danny Williams has got big balls, and if not the Prime Minister, I think Premier of Ontario and Newfoundland

This is our closest competitor and trading partner. We do little business with Europe and therefore must match closer to US standards. Yes, work your ass off Argus. My my my, aren't we all good socialists now.

Why should you get paid for 10 sick days? You should only be paid for the days you work and are productive. Don't you get holidays? Use your holiday money to be off sick.

You don't sort flyers, like you sort mail. I spent many years in the courier business during its glory period. Flyers are for kids, like the newspaper. Flyers are an extra pickup for the post office in the .03 to .05 range and they don't have alot of competition and Flyers are not protected. Mail is a royal pain in the ass. You have no idea what you are talking about. A courier company with minimum wage help, isn't going to be able to deliver the mail cheaper, especially if its open up to numerous competitors. Either the costs go up, and up dramatically or they all lose money.

It is a negotiated benefit. And it is one that is no longer with the times. That is why it is in dispute. The Union and its members believe they require this benefit. The Company believes it is wasteful. Not being paid, when you are sick is one heck of a motivator. Not being fired is something many people have to fight, simply because they were sick. There are other ways to do this, and the government employees, have paychecks perks and benefits far exceeding what the majority of people in the private sector face. It wouldn't stand out so much if many workers, union or not, in the private sector held similar contracts or agreements. But this is not the case. If lucky private sector workers have sick benefits through insurance. Many are 2 weeks before you see a nickle. Its expected that people might be sick as many as 9 days a year. But there is no reason to pay people because they are sick a day here and there or less then 2 weeks.

I feel very stressed by this... I concur with Guyser.

Yes, and you don't ahve to try very hard.

Why should they get a raise when people are taking pay cuts? Heres just a quick google And some more Argus, you make to much money, and is the Public Sector in tune with what is going on.... I think not. Many places 25% cuts are on the table. 16% cuts have been offered in other profitable private sector operations and rejected.

15 DAYS OFF OF PAID SICK LEAVE??? AND BANKABLE!!! The vast majority of people are questioned at 1 or 2 days off. And they aren't paid for missing work. Argus, isn't it time to give up these cushy perks. There is no reason for government workers to get 15 days off with pay. Or be able to bank these days to have a close to a year off work. Private sector workers, particularly fulltime workers forced to work for Temp agencies in a permanent position don't even get holiday pay, let alone sick time off.

Canada will slump into deficit next year: Flaherty

He can save just as much money by not handing out 18 patronage appointments to the Senate. Considering the paltry savings in public funding, where did the Billions and Billions of Surplus go? -
Canada will slump into deficit next year: Flaherty
madmax replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No, spending does not go up in a recession. Spending goes down, cuts are made to programs. Raising EI is coming, expanding EI is coming, it is a necessary program and was already paid for by the tax payers and its going to be well used in the next year. Government may increase spending in certain areas, programs or infra structure, but Spending will be lower in a recession then in a boom period. What is uncertain is if the government runs a deficit or not. This government has hit the deficit wall in a good period and is very likely to be deep into deficit sooner then later. -
I don't believe in mixing political parties anymore then I believe in mixing Molson Canadian with Labbatts Blue.

First deficit in 15 years looms for oil-rich Alberta
madmax replied to jdobbin's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
So far, I have seen the same turnover of workers going west and back to Ontario. I noticed a slight turndown in certain warehousing and framing positions. I am not aware of any dramatic changes. There is no reason or justification to run a deficit in Alberta. -
Sure, he is alot like Harper and Ignatieff, and Charest and Stelmach, and McGuinty, and Doer, and ..... All leaders border on buffoonery. He's on the right track. Screw em.

Natural Resources are the domain of the Provinces.

Sounds like your wife is overpaid by your statements.

No they cannot deliver the mail far cheaper then .52cents. Don't fool yourself with that nonsense. And yes the government has a monopoly. I don't know of any courier companies who want to handle general mail. We got the gravy back in the 80s and once upon a time it was quite lucrative for everyone including numerous small operations.

The tree is already cut down for other purposes. From wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper Paper is thin material mainly used for writing upon, printing upon or packaging. It is produced by pressing together moist fibers, typically cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, and drying them into flexible sheets and it can be recycled. There are two major mechanical pulps, thermomechanical pulp (TMP) and mechanical pulp. The latter is known in the USA as groundwood pulp. In the TMP process, wood is chipped and then fed into large steam-heated refiners where the chips are squeezed and fibreized between two steel discs. In the groundwood process, debarked logs are fed into grinders where they are pressed against rotating stones and fibreized. Mechanical pulping does not remove the lignin, so the yield is very high, >95%, but also causes paper made from this pulp to yellow and become brittle over time. Mechanical pulps have rather short fibre lengths and produce weak paper. Although large amounts of electrical energy are required to produce mechanical pulp, it costs less than chemical pulp. Recycled paper Paper recycling processes can use either chemical or mechanical pulp. By mixing with water and applying mechanical action the hydrogen bonds in the paper can be broken and fibres separated again. Most recycled paper contains a proportion of virgin fibre in the interests of quality. There are three main classifications of recycled fibre:. Mill Broke or Internal Mill Waste — this incorporates any substandard or grade-change paper made within the paper mill which then goes back into the manufacturing system to be repulped back into paper. Such out-of-specification paper is not sold and is therefore often not classified as genuine reclaimed recycled fibre. However, most paper mills have been recycling their own waste fibre for many years, long before recycling become popular. Preconsumer Waste — this is offcuts and processing waste, such as guillotine trims and envelope blank waste. This waste is generated outside the paper mill and could potentially go to landfill, and is a genuine recycled fibre source. Also includes deinked preconsumer (recycled material that has been printed but did not reach its intended end use, such as waste from printers and unsold publications). [8] Postconsumer waste — this is fibre from paper which has been used for its intended end use and would include office waste, magazine papers and newsprint. As the vast majority of this paper has been printed (either digitally or by more conventional means such as litho or gravure), it will either be recycled as printed paper or go through a de-inking process first. Recycled Papers can be made from 100% recycled materials or blended with virgin pulp. Recycled papers are (generally) not as strong nor as bright as papers made from virgin pulp.
