  1. Now we are getting somewhere. The first afghanis to long ago accept and submit to islam were also the first to resist soviet occupation. See where this is headed? Andrew Uhh.. No, merely another example of the Afghan's being conquered... Same as Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great.
  2. I know that if we are comparing moments in history that Alexander the great and Ghenghis khan are in no way comparable at all to the current situation. I think it is far more relevant to keep our comparisons in modern history and not go back to the ancient world or the 13th century. That is ridiculous. Or are you proposing that NATO begin using the tactics employed by Khan? Andrew As equally disengenious as comparing the current operation to the Soviet one and the Bristish one before that. If you agree, we are making progress
  3. Don't make me go out and buy a tin foil hat....stop stealing my Ideas from my brain! Great minds!
  4. And what exactly would we have to concede to them? Burqa's must be worn on Wednesdays and Thursdays but not during the full moon on every other Saturday? Compulsive praying to Allah only has to be followed when beaten? Women are free to work so long as they are chained to their pious brother? Little girls are allowed to go to school if they proclaim an oath to go through genital mutilations? You can fly a kite so long as you don't look at it? public beheadings now by invitation only? - mess to be cleaned up at least 2 hours prior to the soccer game? You think negotiations will solve all this and you call me ignorant? haha We are there to make sure that the government is able to defend itself against these murderous fascists. When they are able to, we go. Until we get there, everythign we have contributed already is in jeopardy.
  5. Yep, about an hour - probably less.
  6. so are you prepared to back this up? You seem to be suggesting that both the ritish and Russian empire enjoyed success in Afghanistan, with much larger armies to boot. You say the fact that they lost is not true? WTF are you talking about? Andrew I guess when you don't know history you don't know who Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great are. Feel free to put down Karl Marx and pick up a history text. Next!
  7. Such utter bullshit! in reponse to Andrews ridiculous statements. These assertions were also trotted out by the far left during vietnam. At least the left is consistent in their wrong mindedness.
  8. nice. he's only a soldier over there NOW. Could you be anymore pompous? such ignorance. Yes, he is a soldier over there right now. and right now, as a soldier over there putting his life on the line to achieve to goals of the canadian government - he still doesnt know why he's there. He thinks he's there to defeat evil Islam the Taliban and Al Queda. That may very well be his own personal ambition but thats not why the Canadian government sent him there...and he knows that very well. Youre so full of shit your stink is coming through my monitor. We are there to support the karzai giovernment to become self sufficient. One of the ways of doing that is defending the people rebuilding the country from being murdered by these animals. Unfortunately for your delicate sensibilities, this can sometimes mean blowing the crap out of the enemy, and make no mistake, the enemy of the CF's and the karzai government is the taliban. I guess you just want them to surrender to them and hope the taliban build roads and bridges? Why do you insist on being willfully ignorant?
  9. Me too actually. time flies I guess. They said this is their mid-life upgrade. Think how much better computers are now since 1987 though. Seems like the bulk is being spent on technology related issues. In that light, it makes sense.
  10. This will be good for our Navy. Now how about those new support ships? http://www.cdnmilitary.ca/?p=22
  11. That's as far as I read. If that's how you preface something, I don't need to read any further to know that it's a load of crap. Stigansty, you support Jack Layton on this? I don't get it.
  12. nice. he's only a soldier over there NOW. Could you be anymore pompous? such ignorance.
  13. A rapid deplyment force is a good strategy, but only one componet of the overall strategy. 5000 soldiers is too much. habe to keep it smaller to keep the standards up.
  14. I agree. I'm sure the intent of those tie dyed teachers back in the 60s and 70s was to break through the myopic canons of the day and produce a generation of students with an awareness that went beyond the western perspective, but I wonder if they knew that in doing so they would produce a second generation of self-hating ideologues with no sense of formal history, no sense of what the rest of the world actually is like, and so divorced from the realities of life that their idea of foreign policy, moral fortitude, and right and wrong is captured in the single vague notion of "peace," and worse yet, "peace at all costs." Agreed 100% This line of thinking is really the most dangerous thing facing western civilization now. Not terrorism, not Global warming, not anything else. If we as a society decide that we hate ourselves more than we like ourselves, then we have already lost. Islam is simply slipping in to take over the power vacuum.
  15. Yes and I am told that you will be finding out sooner than most on this board?
  16. You only lost money on income trusts if you were dumb enought to sell right after the announcement. IT are down only vey very marginally from what they were prior to the announcement. The GOC could not afford it's biggest companies converting to IT and paying NO tax. That is why they changed it. They had to. Hiti is clearly over her head.
  17. Those were actually just nightsoil pots they buried after each decampment, but over the years, ever more thunderous urban legends grew up around them. Coincidentally enough, Genghis Khan's horses left alot of road apples and a very similar myth resulted.
  18. Wow, andrew, are you sugesting that you have the moral high ground on this issue, that you more qualified to comment on this issue, that you have some inside information that the rest of us are not privy to...than say a guy with a military history degree, that wakes up every morning in Afganistan. please do tell... Because your comments are leading us down a different path, one that see's mom coming home and catching you on the computer again, and sending you to your room..comments like Your debating skills have been honed to a razors edge, they contain a wealth of info that supports your arguement. But maybe thats just me. Psst hurry up mom's coming home.... Then there was this little gem, which actually made coffee shoot out of my nose...as i nearly fell out of my chair. Now your claiming to have some respect for an institution which is responsable for maintaining all your rights and freedoms you have today. give me a break, in fact give us all a break... I have never seen such a disgusting series of posts in all of my time here at MLW. For a smug little shit like that to openly insult a serving member of the CF's that is in Afghanistan now - I just can't begin to comprehend the thought process. It really makes me angry and ashamed at the same time. He sounds like he is actively angry with weaponeer because he IS a member of the CF's. Maybe Canada doesn't deserve our soldiers. In fact, I'm sure that it doesn't. I can't imagine how shit like this makes army guy and weaponeer feel. It makes me sick and ashamed.
  19. By definition anybody who invades and occupies Afghanistan obviously has zero knowledge of war and history. Andrew By definition, you posting this gives you zero credibility. It's a popular leftist talking point, but surprise - it isn't true!
  20. Good post Scott. I agree. Bikini's aren't even allowed in Muslim nations. And people here are worried about harmless jokes about the burka?
  21. Our corporate tax rate is still lower than the United States which is our chief trading partner. The income trusts were an investment vehicle focused on producing dividends for the client. The Conservatives chose to reduce the GST over lowering the corporate tax to European levels. As for your other comment, why don't you focus on making your points. I don't know that the new moderator will see the validity in your personal rejoinders. Why don't you mind yoru own business? I calls them as I see them. If you spent as much time worry about yourself as you do on others, you would probably be a happier person. The GST was a good tax to lower too. Lower it again to 5% then concentrate on corporate and personal income tax.
  22. Perhaps, but with different rules. No major corporations in the US are taxed the way Telus and NCE were applying to be. The popularity of income trusts was a side effect of our high corporate tax rates. There should be a level playing field for all and having a tax loop hole like income trusts would have kept the corporate tax rate higher if they were allowed to survive. I disagree - Our best chance at increasin productivity is decreasing the taxes on the individual worker, and decreasing the corporate tax rate. Also, increasin the amortization allowance and the tax incentives for businesses to invest in equipment - this last piece was addressed in the last budget. Also, Canada has nothign to worry about in regards to foreign investment, we are the darling of the global investment community. We are no longer 'faking it' with our low dollar. Make them more competitive for sure, eliminate? not necessary. jdobbin, were you trying to be funny?
  23. And if you believe that then I have some ocean front property for sale in Sask. I have lived too long and watched politics too long to believe that our system is safe. So your argument is that if any private entry into healthcare is allowed then the public system is doomed?
  24. Man you are thick sometimes margrace. No one here is aguing for us to adopt the US system. We are arguing that we be given a choice, have both public and private like alot of European countries. People should not have to die waiting because of your ideological bent.
