What must we do to protect our White culture?
jefferiah replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The warfare was neither constant nor anywhere as brutal as modern civilized warfare. There was no cannibalism in NA native culture. Torture and casual brutality did not exist anywhere to the degree it is found in modern civilized states, even Canada. What did i admire? I admire the respect they showed for the earth. I admired the skill they had to live in the wild with almost no predation. I admired their sustainability. I admired their sense of kinship with the land and with their tribes. I admired their total lack of crime. I admire their sense of time. I admire their lack of totalitarian expansion and exploitation. There are really so many things to admire about the native way of life. Modern civilization? I cant think of much that i admire at all. Andrew Lol. Why are you online then? Im civilized. Do you also ask a crack addict why he does crack? Andrew Are you writing a letter every time you make a post? -

But honestly Andrew I understand where you are coming from. The Old Ways are good in a lot of ways. And deep down everyone knows that. You know kinship with the Earth, in the days before towering casinos and all that. But I doubt many people would trade their tarred network to the grocery store and the hospital for a simpler life. But what does this have to do with White People. White People did not have cars then either. They do now, but so do natives. I am not into white pride or anything, but I am not going to move over and apologize cuz I am white, either. The problem with multiculturalism is that it doesnt promote culture all round...it is getting to a point where it makes the predominant culture out to be the bad guy, and rather than respecting the diversity we have people crying they are offended. So we have Kirpans in schools, and a kid in Tennessee who is not allowed to bring his unsharpened Bible to read at recess. -

From what I have read of Scott's post I dont see where he is putting down other races, or that he is saying that other races are bad, so how can you call it racist. I am not particularly concerned about this issue either, but I dont see why its such a terrible thing for a person to think about preserving a race or taking steps to do so, and he certainly hasnt mentioned genocide as one of the options. If there were two bald eagles left ...........

What must we do to protect our White culture?
jefferiah replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The problem is simple. And it is a reality in many situations, its undeniable. Many people for fear of being labelled racist are afraid to not judge in favour of a minority. I am not saying that racism does not exist among members of the predominant culture, but at the same time it can be quite irritating to have people screaming bigotry at you every time you disagree with the common political view of some minority. So there is racism in the world....but also there is sort of a racism allergy. Sort of an over-reactive, over- protective immune dysfunction that makes people lash out at anything that could be mistaken for racism. -

Anyways whatever anyone means by white culture, the answer is you have to protect it for yourself. That's it. You can't enforce it, but realistically I dont think thats happening over here anyway. I think Leafless is saying that we shouldn't have to water it down for others. Like when the crosses were removed from a Rememberance Day display. I mean it's not hurting anyone. And if a student must check his religion at the school door why can't the Sikh leave his blade there. -
I didnt even watch it. Who cares? Let celebrities parade themselves all they want.

Well, if we're talking of cultural integration I would point out philosophies such as Buddhism, Hinduism and Taoism to name a few. Certainly new age spiritualism has deep roots in these. Yoga is from Hinduism. I think cybercoma has done a far better job than I could in articulating this aspect of culture. I will add that there are feminist struggles for equality in other cultures just as there were in western cultures at the turn of the century. Women here in north america still do not have equal rights nor would I view our pop-culture as being respectful towards them. Absolutely, these are examples of racism and hate. I don't think a society should be measured by the lowest denominator. I think media has the effect of portraying certain events as being more prevalent than they actually are. I know that by looking at my own multi cultural community there is no reason to believe that *cultural aspects* are to blame for the vast majority of violence. Their presence in the quest for the higher potential of humanity. Values are held at an individual level with culture being the collective. I believe in the intrinsic good of humanity. I believe that to expand on 'the outstanding tradition of freedoms and democracy and human decency' we must as individuals make the transition from values of money and material excess to life and spiritual fulfillment, from relationships of domination to relationships of partnership, from a belief in our limitations to a belief in our possibilities, and from fearing our differences to rejoicing in our diversity. Sure that is one thing, but multiculturalism does not work that way and that's why people are pissed off at it. I had an argument not so long ago with a fellow about kirpans in schools. He agreed with it I was against it. But he was also a proponent of prohibiting Christian students to bring Bibles to school, because its offensive apparently (I tried to explain to him that most people dont sharpen their Bibles). And people who think like this are a reality. You may have read about the case a few years ago where a student in Tennessee no less was barred from bringing a Bible to school for personal use because another student saw it, and that students parent made a complaint. No one can stop people from being multicultural anyway. So why do we need "multiculturalism". If I wanted to lay down a mat, burn incense, and say Ohmmmmmmmmmm for ten years I can do it anyway. The cops wont bust down my doors and arrest me. Its when multiculturalism turns into a campaign against the predominant culture that it becomes a problem. When people are offended at everything predominant here. The fact that poppies blew in Flander's Fields beneath some "CROSSES" should not affect a Muslim's ability to be muslim. Do you feel the need to complain about Stone Buddha's when you are in Asia? Of course not, but the Alabama Legislature had to scrap the Commandments. Why? -

If I had a crush on a woman of another race I would personally have no problem marrying that woman. It's no big deal to me. But I know a guy who says he thinks no less of other races but says he would only marry a white person. Now I dont agree with him on everything, but he can marry whoever he wants and thats his business. And whenever he says this he is booed and called racist this bigot that, like its anybody's business. But if a black person said the same thing and only wanted to date "sisters" no one would be upset. You know it, and I know it. There are many people who say things that society deems terrible who turn out to be nicer people than most of us. -

Seriously. I don't know all the aspects of African American culture in the U.S. or what it is really. It often seems linked to Africa as a continent but not its nations. I think blacks in Canada have several different roots and there are many different cultural backgrounds. I'm no expert but it does seem different that the U.S. Yes but you understand my meaning. I am saying that if there were someone talking about black culture and preserving it you probably would not get hot and bothered. I could be wrong and I would hope I am. But that is not likely the case. I remember watching a talk show a few years ago and seeing a black guy on there saying he would only date white women cuz he just found the look more attractive. While talk shows are not the best source of information they are a good source of popular opinion. The audiences are populated with real people and their boos and claps reflect the general opinions of society. This black man was booed and many people took the mic to bash him, while some black people said he was turning his back on his brothers and sisters. But no one gets upset over the black people saying such things....imagine if a white man were to say he liked black women better...would you get up and say he should prefer his white brothers and sisters? -

well not that it really matters anyways, but technically there are brown caucasians. Jewish people are not mongoloid, australoid, or negroid are they? Do you remember the Afghani girl with GREEN EYES on the National Geographic cover? -

I am unfamiliar with African American culture or what it is exactly. Do you have any Canadian anecdotal references? Dont play dumb. -

Why eliminate "white" to replace it with Anglo-Saxon? C'mon, let's call a spade a spade. Well, although I am not really concerned about white culture, I have to ask would you say the same thing if he was a black man trying to preserve and promote African American culture. That's the thing, it's ok for anybody but a white person to say these kinds of things. No one would call an African American pride fest a spade, right? When Halle Berry says "black children belong with black mothers" in "Losing Isaiah" were you as outraged as you would be if you heard someone saying the vice versa? Personally I dont think you have to protect anything, you just have to be it. -
Harper says Quebec pride no threat
jefferiah replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well said, M Dancer. While I dont support separatism, I have to agree here. Local pride is not necessarily the root of anything. It is possible to have a somewhat unique culture and be part of Canada, and being a Maritimer I have to acknowledge that you gave a good example. I think separatism may have more to do with a cultural inferiority complex. Maybe that's a load of baloney, too. I don't know. Do you have a clue what of WTF your talking about? Or could it be you are inhaling or injecting some sort of illegal substance? Hey no need to get all hot and bothered about it. I am not saying that Quebecois who dislike Canada are innocent victims or anything of the sort. I am simply saying that cultural pride on its own is not necessraily bad, and that the problem comes from something else. It is possible to be a proud Albertan or a proud Maritimer without becoming an enemy of Canada. So that kind of pride in and of itself does not cause the situation we see in Quebec, or else it would cause it elsewhere. Would you suggest that we ban pride, or ban it in Quebec? Or if as you say Quebec pride is not the same as other pride, then maybe pride is the wrong word. "Quebec pride (h)as nothing to do with pride." I am not trying to fight with you here. Maybe you should look at what you are saying and what I am saying and see that really there is not much of a difference. My theory is that Quebecois are anti-Canadian in the same way and for a similar reason that many Canadians are anti-American. More of an envy than pride. Where English is put in smaller font in Quebec, in all of Canada we have the CRTC telling us we must have so much Canadian content. I am not trying to justify it, or sticking up for it. I am just saying that a cultural pride is not necessarily the problem, its the idea that you must preserve your culture by force for fear of losing it. I am proud to be a Canadian but that pride itself does not make me want to bash Americans. It does not make me feel like I must impose restrictions on TV and Radio in order to maintain Canadian purity. I dont think that is pride at all, but more of a fear. -
While I mostly agree with this, I think most of the posters on here who resort to the occasional spank to discipline their children are not abusing them, nor is it a matter of pleasure as one person put it. In many cases physical discipline is not necessarily smacking someone around to teach em a lesson. Often when there is something dangerous which parents don't want a toddler touch they will slap the child's hand. I know that we now have many little contraptions to protect children from dangerous things, like outlets and such, but there are still perhaps some things we haven't taken care of. I think, as Geoffrey says, people can be raised without a good ole spankin. But I would not call all hitting barbaric, especially when it is used to stop a child from touching something which could cause greater pain.

Look at alot of Canadians in respect to Americans. We sometimes feel the need to keep things Canadian in a purist way, because maybe we feel smaller and less powerful than the US. -

Total Utter Abysmal Trash, Or Total Ingrates

This post makes me think of an incident which occured not so long ago at the high school I attended when I was a teenager. A grade nine teacher reprimanded a student for not standing during the national anthem and sent the boy to the principal's office. The boy was sent back to class and the teacher was suspended for his attempt at disciplining the boy. -
US a Theocratic State says Frank McKenna

What does NASCAR have to do with governance? American TV is not government controlled like up here, so if private networks feel ok about putting "religious ballywho" in their programming what is that to you? -

jefferiah replied to cybercoma's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The US is not a theocracy. Put a conservative in office and all of a sudden everyone will accuse the government of being run by Bible-thumping nazis. They don't need proof. People just love to blow that one out of proportion sometimes. -
No, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If people are offended by that, then they can boycott the bar. When the bar has no clientele because no one wants to be caught dead in a place that shows bigotry towards that group, they'll change their rules or go bankrupt. It's up to the owner to decide how best to run his business. Here's the best part. If gay people are pissed because they don't have a club, since all the bigoted breeders banned them from their clubs, the homosexuals can make their own clubs and ban straight people. Once again... capitalism should teach owners that opening your establishment to as many people as possible is more profitable than running a business that is considered racist or bigoted. But, if an owner wants to shoot themselves in the foot, that's their prerogative. I quite agree with you here. I dont think a lawsuit is necessary. I would just go someplace else and say "their loss". But this is funny considering your outrage over the church's position about not choosing homosexuals to be leaders. I also think the lady suing eharmony over its lack of a women seeking women section should buzz off.
-
I hide for sure. Wont see me out on the bike Sunday morning. Have you seen the way the churchgoers drive? All those old ladies who dont share the road.....I stay out of the way. You must live in the booneys...most people walk to church (well, except for evangelicals who need to show off the Cads to show how loved by God they are.....) I do live in the booneys!
