  1. Hmmm, I don't think the couple who booked the Knights of Columbus hall were ignorant of the fact that what they were doing would have been offesnsive to Catholics. But I don't think they even bothered to inform them. If I booked a hall belonging to an Orthodox Jewish synagogue and decided to roast a pig in there I would expect them to come and give me the boot.
  2. Hmmm. You would think that a qualified journalist would have mentioned the conservatives in the article. Now you show me the half-truth in the article Scriblett cited.
  3. When there are two kinds of bias I like to read both. World Net Daily has some clear mistakes, at the same time they make some excellent points that no one else is willing to make. Two liars from opposing groups are each willing to tell the truth when it suits them, and the truths that suit them are decidely different truths. When it was the Star printing half-truths and distorting the news, M Dancer says "Well but Ruby Dhalla is beautiful, you gotta admit."
  4. Yes I did, good point. But then again I still would not expect anyone who owns a Bricklyn to share with me.
  5. I am a Christian. I have never even heard of this group. And yes they do sound wierd. I didn't watch the video though. The word rapture is not in the New Testament, but there are passages which some people believe point to an event which they term "the Rapture". Even at that I would think that the New Testament makes it very clear that this is not something humans have control over and that these organized Christian groups cannot predict or influence.
  6. There were a finite number of kolomikta kiwi vines at the garden centre. When I went to buy mine there was one left. I would have liked to have had four. And I suppose after I bought the last one there are people who would have liked to have bought at least one. Nothing happened. Maybe I should grow kiwis for all Canadians off my one Kolomikta vine.
  7. Since when do the airways belong to the CRTC? Maybe they should charge us a breathing tax.
  8. So by this logic a person who opens a vegetarian restaurant should serve meat as well on behalf of the majority????? And yet you support the CBC whose customers (the taxpayer) do not have the choice and they certainly don't serve the majority. The majority is watching CSI and House not Little Mosque or The Hour.
  9. I am not a Nietzsche fan myself, but every once in a while he wrote something that hit the nail on the head: I would like to quote a little bit from Thus Spake Zarathustra: 11. The New Idol SOMEWHERE there are still peoples and herds, but not with us, my brethren: here there are states. A state? What is that? Well! open now your ears unto me, for now will I say unto you my word concerning the death of peoples. A state, is called the coldest of all cold monsters. Coldly lieth it also; and this lie creepeth from its mouth: "I, the state, am the people." It is a lie! Creators were they who created peoples, and hung a faith and a love over them: thus they served life. Destroyers, are they who lay snares for many, and call it the state: they hang a sword and a hundred cravings over them. Where there is still a people, there the state is not understood, but hated as the evil eye, and as sin against laws and customs. This sign I give unto you: every people speaketh its language of good and evil: this its neighbor understandeth not. Its language hath it devised for itself in laws and customs. But the state lieth in all languages of good and evil; and whatever it saith it lieth; and whatever it hath it hath stolen. False is everything in it; with stolen teeth it biteth, the biting one. False are even its bowels. Confusion of language of good and evil; this sign I give unto you as the sign of the state. Verily, the will to death, indicateth this sign! Verily, it beckoneth unto the preachers of death!
  10. I never said Canadians had to benefit from this station. Radio stations are not or should not be ward of the state. What does this have to do with Canadians in general. It is a small Christian music station in Ottawa serving a small market. There is a wide range of views. There is a wide range of radio stations. This radio station does not have to represent all Canadians it only has to represent their market niche. I don't even pick up this station. No a half hour is not much....but it is still a vital change. If the CRTC can tell a Christian station they must play Muslim music for half an hour (which would be blasphemous for them to endorse), what will they do tomorrow. One inch today in this direction is another inch tomorrow. The rights of some small radio station in Ottawa are the same as the rights of all individuals and businesses across the nation---Christian, Jew, Muslim, Sikh, black, white, green or purple. The CRTC has even discussed getting into the protection of their version of "Canadian culture" (for all Canadians) on the world wide web. In the interests of protecting the diversity and the integrity of any culture, I would not trust the CRTC. The other religious groups or cultural groups may feel they have a friend today in the socialist CRTC, when they are done being used as an example of an oppressed group to defeat the rights of the private citizens (in the name of fairness to all Canadians) the same socialists will turn on them.
  11. I am not a scientist American Woman, so I don't know much about it. But if there are scientists out there who dispute the Global Warming belief why should they not be allowed to present their arguments. When you get into this game of deciding who is telling the truth as pertains to freedom of the press you open a dangerous door.
  12. But, but but but but....there is no such thing as race. Why do people get so hung up over words?
  13. In fact I remember when the CRTC decided that there were certain mandatory cable stations Canadians must subscribe to, that alot of my fellow maritimers thought it was pretty ridiculous. I wonder why multicultarilists feel there is a need to weed out anything American? Why do they get to decide what Canadian culture is when Canadians themselves would decide differently? And how can you preserve Canadian culture with socialist tactics that go against the intent of the nations founders?
  14. I wouldn't trust those polls. From what I hear about CBC ratings it would be hard to believe that all but a few would want the CBC and I suspect the majority of those are in the east. That may be true, but you have it from this easterner that I think the CBC is ridiculous as well.
  15. Why should religious groups be forced to know each other? People themselves should have the right to decide that which they want to know. This is the problem with multiculturalism. It is more than simply multiculturalism it is forced multiculturalism. I have no problem with a Hindu neighbour as long as I don't have to indulge in his beliefs or even know about them. And I can be his friend without knowing his religion, or having the government force it on me. Multiculturalism should be a free venture----meaning if you want to put down a mat and meditate and burn incense you can. There is no need to mandate that other people do so, or that a Christian radio station should have to condone it or endorse it. To allow people the freedom to be multicultural means they can subscribe to whatever belief they want exclusively. Religions are all different. I do not believe in ecumenicalism because it basically does a fine editing job on some of the most important points of every faith and says "See they are the same!" By the same token if someone wishes to believe they are the same they have a right to do so as well, as long as they do not enforce it. But they can't seem to get beyond that idea. The parity movements are just as intolerant as the intolerance they claim to be fighting against. People talk about Christian proselytizing but the fact is this radio station does not mandate that people listen to Christian music. I don't listen to Christian music. CHRI is notforcing me to. The church can proselytize but it can't force anyone to listen. Why shouldn't people who want to start a Christian radio station with the idea of pure Christian programming be allowed to do just that? If no one likes it, they can tune out. If they want other viewpoints they can go elsewhere.
  16. The CRTC didn't change the rules, there is a new station license being applied for, which follows a different format. So basically if I put up money to start a Christian radio station you think it is right that the government should say I have to put programming for other religions on there? Why can't the person putting up the cash put on the programs he wants? What about the rights to govern your own private property? Basically this means that the Christian Radio station can no longer be a Christian Radio station. And henceforth if this policy is enacted across the board there can be no such thing in Canada. You think this is right?
  17. The radio station in question started in the 90s I believe. At that time they had to apply for a license to broadcast from the CRTC. The intent I assume was to create a Christian radio station, since that is what they are. The CRTC approved. The people who backed this station and put money into it for the purposes of having a Christian radio station are being screwed. As for representing the Canadian public I am sure that the station itself is a small entity and does not have many viewers and the owners should have the right to broadcast shows they like. The fact that it is small and that only a certain small amount of the public tunes into Christian radio compliment each other in making the argument that it is representative of the people. The viewers who do not like it tune into other stations. Why should the CRTC have the right now to change the rules in the middle of the game? The people who worked hard to fund this station for the purposes of making a Christian radio station are now having the product they paid for forcibly changed? There is no law restricting a Muslim radio station. As for trusting in the well-educated, well- researched individuals who make up the CRTC. That is a load of crap. I approve of education and research but neither are necessarily signs of intelligence. If they were then they would know how to represent Canadians with shows they would actually watch. I respect education, but if an educated person tells me 2 plus 2 is 5, I don't care what his credentials are. I am sure Lucien Bouchard had an education, but that won't sell me on the fact that he appointed an FLQ terrorist to a federal position. It is complete bs that people who put up money to establish a radio station (which was approved by the CRTC) should have their programming decided for them. For the Christian owners of the station Islamic content or Buddhist content would be blasphemous. They cannot ban such things from society, nor should they. We all have freedom of religion, but they should have the right to decide what programming they want on their station. For the owners of the station who paid to put out the message that Christ is divine, it would be ridiculous to force them to also say Christ is no more than a prophet, or that Buddha is the awakened one. If this station were a public entity like CBC then the CRTC could more appropriately decide to have multi-religious programming.
  18. What Canadian values does the CRTC preserve? Are the 15 people who watched BonCopBadCop going to preserve society for the rest of us? Most of the crap the CRTC selects in the name of Canadian culture has little to do with Canadian culture. How can we maintain culture without regulation you ask? I would rather ask what kind of culture is maintained by regulations of an elite few? If the society is multicultural then that means there is equal allowance for a Buddhist Radio station. That does not mean the government should enforce programming upon a radio station. Should the government also have the right to demand that Christian bookstores carry the Koran? You mention democracy, but there is nothing democratic about the CRTC. They are making a centralized decision for everyone. If you want a democratic decision, let the people watch what they will. And if they dont like Christian radio stations they can tune out, and the Christian radio stations can deal with that loss on their own. There is nothing democratic about the CBC, either, or else it would produce shows that viewers would democratically tune into. Instead it produces shows that few people watch. How does that represent the people of Canada? The fact that CBC would not survive on its own is a democratic statement that it should not be there. You mention the importance of multiculturalism, but you draw the line when that culture is America. We can be multicultural, but no Americanism? I don't get it. I think there is an important question that must be asked, and I haven't seen the answer yet...unless I missed it. Is this radio station government funded? This is the most important issue. If not then why should the government be in the business of selecting its programming. Any info on the status of the radio station?
  19. There is a huge difference between "the poor" and the people who claim to represent them. It is usually some sort of intellectual idealist who decides he is on the side of the poor and knows what is best for them who claims to represent them. Whereas the poor themselves are being used for political ends. If anything I would say it is the average joe working guy who values his freedom. Lenin did not ask the poor in Russia for permission to represent them. I don't think the peasants were communists. But Lenin didnt care. He represents the poor whether they like it or not, I guess.
  20. One thing I can never understand is why people who dislike the general idea of "the establishment" and "the system" and "the man", always seem to support those who think the solution lies in creating an even bigger "establishment". They are rebelling in favour of a system that would destroy every kind of rebel, no matter how feeble the so-called rebellion.
  21. As for the Charter, I agree B. Max. But how can you make the people understand above the loud accusations of "you hate rights and freedoms" or "you only want free speech so you can organize hate groups" or "you want to make Canada into America". How can we be heard?
  22. This is completely ridiculous. I wonder why more people are not concerned about the CRTC. And the CHRC as well which can ruin the lives of people with dissenting views and functions in independence of the judicial system.
  23. OK Figleaf, look, you are un-banned now. It's over. You are not the first person to get banned, but you have done the best job dragging it out. So if you want to go, leave, stop whining. But if you want to stay, stay. No one here is overly mad at you, but all this self-pity over being banned from a little website is getting a little much. Is this worth it? I've been banned from places before. Whooopp deeeeee dooo! It's not like they sent you to Siberia to do hard labour and live on bread and water. Do you have anything else to talk about other than the horrible injustice you suffered? If not, then take a hike, for real this time. Or suck it up, get over it, and get back in the business of posting over some issue that is not Figleaf.
  24. That's one creepy magic kitty.
