  1. Many Islamists resented the west long before 9/11, the dancing in the streets of Cairo as people died tells us that, also opinion polls The Islamists rail against our freedoms and values which they see as decadent and irreligious. But maybe it is because they compare the west's wealth against their own poverty and lack of success so are just too willing to blame their problems on the infidel. As far as the excuse of unemployment and poverty, this claim seems to be contradicted by the apparant good financial situation of AlQaeda's leaders and supporters as well as that of other terrorist groups, who seem to have unlimited funds for ammunition, bombs and other equipment. http://memri.org/bin/articles.cgi?Page=arc...=sd&ID=SP162507 there's an excellent article on this and the 'culture of hatred' There is also the presumption that Islam should be dominant religion wth a Caliphate holding power in the world as other religions and secularism are held in contempt. This presumption helps creates religious fervour and racist nationalism which stokes the fervour so you cannot separate their hate from their reliigion.
  2. The Atlantic Accords are a perversion of equalization, if the Liberals hadn't made all these side deals there wouldn't be a problem now.
  3. Right on, I guess if something is repeated often enough it will be believed.
  4. Chrétien's was the Shawinigan bully boy with his street tactics and as Larry Zolf of CBC said back in 2002 "To these Liberals, Chrétien is a bully trying to push the caucus around, trying to get an agenda passed, which is really no agenda at all, simply a Chrétien ego exercise." Guess it depends on where you sit LOL
  5. Personally I don't have a problem, but many people from all persuasions have a problem with using live embryos, as they are considered a life., they don't have a problem with stem cell research other than that issue. Health Minister Anne McLellan introduced a bill in 2005 to regulate assisted human reproduction and related science I'll have to look it up. The governing council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research has given conditional approval for a controversial project to use "fresh" as well as frozen human embryos for stem cell research, officials said here the health agency has for the first time authorized the use of days-old human embryos for a stem cell project. The $523,000 project, which has been under review for a year, will use surplus embryos donated by people who have undergone fertility treatment. The tiny embryos, composed of just a few cells, would be destroyed as the researchers try to harvest embryonic stem cells. The hope is that understanding the potent cells might one day lead to treatments for everything from Parkinson's disease to heart disease.yesterday. http://www.wednesday-night.com/STEMCELL-Notes.htm
  6. Embryonic stem cell research is available in Canada and is attracting people here because of the ban in the U.S. Stem cell research in Canada is made even more attractive in view of the availability and quality of research facilities, the lower cost of conducting research in Canada than in the U.S., and the government tax credits. Mind you, the dollar might change that this year. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...s_name=&no_ads= Even in Sweden there are groups opposed to it, including both left wing and greens. Does anyone here think that Canada should ban it, not fund it, or but any restraints on it at all or let it go on as is? Britain allows the creation of human embryos for stem cell procurement, should Canada, or does it matter?
  7. Given that Stephen Harper personally may be against abortion but not politically and has said so, and given that abortion is not an issue nor a plank anywhere in the CPC platform as you would have us believe, it doesn't matter. The CBC will continue with their agenda. Given Stephen Harper's non-opposition to embryonic stem cell research, and given who controls the CBC pursestrings, the outcome is less predictable than some might think. Embryonic stem cell research on live embryos is not considered ethical by many people, including non conservatives. Many liberals are against abortion on demand it is not a cut and dried issue.
  8. I can't agree with a universal drug plan, way too costly and who will pay for it? How about a gov't drug plan for which we pay a fair premiums?
  9. Too easy it seems, thread drift is normal, but deliberately hijacking it with some gay agenda (or any other) is against the rules.
  10. We are talking about the Senate not MPs, Dion can't do a darn thing about it. Mind you, it isn't likely the Senate will give up their summer holidays over this now so in the end they'll likely pass it and if not, the CPC will gain back their lead. from the Star: "With his differences with his senators already public, a blockade in the Upper House could do more damage to Dion's credibility than to the battered budget itself." "I call on Liberal senators to put politics aside, respect the will of the House, listen to your leader Stephane Dion and deliver the gains that people, provinces and not-for-profit organizations are waiting for," Conservative Senator Marjorie LeBreton said at a news conference with Conservative House Leader Peter Van Loan. Delaying the budget past June 30 would delay almost $4-billion in benefits to Canadians, including tax cuts for working families and investments in the environment and health care." I'm kind of hoping that the Liberal Senators will do us a favour and be the cause of their own demise (Senate wise that is) -
  11. True, but still a welcomed development. They only have a few more months to realize that George Bush is not the Prime Minister of Canada. If they wake up to that they won't be able to start any more hate-Harper threads LOL
  12. Isn't the whole thing about CBC giving the most popular wish a chance to do an editorial, so in this case it looks as if they will have to. The majority of Canadians agree with limits on late term abortions for obvious reasons; I'm pro choice but not for late term (when the foetus is viable outside the womb IMO )
  13. The Liberals have said that they won't interfere with a money bill. Any Senator who votes for against the money bill be tossed from the Liberal caucus. But the Liberal Senators have said they will ignore Dion's wishes - what's it going to be, besides they can't be tossed from the Senate -"It's even the law," Dion said of the Senate's responsibility not to block budget bills Liberal Senator George Baker "Normally the Senate does not interfere … with something [like] a money bill passed by the House of Commons," Baker, a former Newfoundland MP, told CBC News..... but.....
  14. Paul Martin got a lot of press for apologizing in a Fairchild radio interview, for the head tax. Their policy was starting to change, other liberals were speaking out, it was a matter of time before they too would have done the same thing. http://www.gunghaggisfatchoy.com/blog/_arc.../4/1602039.html
  15. I'm not giving up crab, luv the stuff, better than lobster, especially King Crab. A large grocery store had a super special on Alaskan King Crab last fall, bought a whole mess of it. yum with garlic butter
  16. Back to the Senate topic again Canadians dont want an election, and a Liberal Senate forcing one would be horrific for Liberals. Maybe Harper will not fill the positions, and quickly LOL
  17. With regard to Sask. - they are accusing the gov't of breaking the Atlantic Accord contract and will sue - for what - they have no accord.
  18. I think your right, http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv.ca/TopStorie...pularity_070613 Majority of Canadians do not want Dion as PM: poll 13/06/2007 5:05:35 PM A majority of Canadians do not want to see Liberal Leader Stephane Dion become prime minister, finds a new national public opinion poll. Majority of Canadians do not want Dion as PM: poll The poll, conducted by The Strategic Counsel for CTV and The Globe and Mail, finds that Dion is not connecting with Canadians, especially in his home province of Quebec. Overall, only 20 per cent of those polled wanted Dion, who was elected to lead the Liberals just six months ago, to become prime minister. Fifty-two per cent polled said they didn't want him in the country's top job. Twenty-eight per cent had no opinion.
  19. I think your right, if they block the budget bill and help defeat the gov't and its splattered all over the front pages that its the fault of an unelected seante - we would see much more support for electing them. If they keep this up, they will be the authors of their own demise.
  20. Naw, anti-death is inaccurate. Judging by the anti-abortion contingent around here and their positions on other issues, its not so much about perserving life as just waiting until after the kid's exited the vagina before taking a shot at 'em. Maybe abortion is simply not very sporting? I havn't noticed a lot of anti abortion people around here, seems more pro choice to me.
  21. But Liberal senators insist they're perfectly within their constitutional rights to amend or even defeat the bill. So there you go, the unelected senate thinks it can control and take on the roll of official government. http://www.recorder.ca/cp/National/070614/n061447A.html
  22. Has anyone been following this, http://www.cbc.ca/wish/ it's a rather interesting turn of events over the last day or so. http://www.facebook.com/sgroup/subgroups.php?oid=2392827649 The "Abolish Abortion in Canada" group has moved into first place, which I find rather interesting. Considering the average age range of facebook users I'm a bit surprised that an item that is considered very right wing would be at the top. Could the younger generation be more socially conservative then we thought?
  23. Back to the topic of the Senate: There's talk that the Senate will block the budget because of the equalization problems. How would the public react to the Senate bringing down the government. Has it ever actually happened before and would people resent the Senate blocking the will of the Commons? If this happens its the best case yet for getting rid of it.
  24. Then don't respond. Then quit diverting threads
