Steve Paikin, TVO's high profile right wing ranter (sort of like CNN's Glenn Beck but with guests who do not look out of their pineal eye) had a round table discussion last night on the situation in Iraq. He invited a number of low level protest thi nkers and he invited Daniel Pipes. We all know Daniel Pipes is a complete neutral thinker who ***cough*** Mets ***cough*** watches every curve ball closely at it crosses the plate. Daniel Pipes would have us all know that it is all Rummy's fault! Yes folks, Donald Rumsfeld has become the fall guy for the right. Pipes would have us all know that 100,000 troops was not enough. The US should have sent 300,000! Does this sound at all like Henry the K? Well yes it does indeedy do. Henry the ***cough*** loser ***cough*** K has been saying the same thing about Vietnam for over 30 years! Oh man. If only we had the kind of defense budget that Ariel Sharon had! Man, The good press we could get.... And screw the deficit. Uncle Sam will pay... of wait. We are Uncle Sam! d'Oh!

He also re-issued his 'Israel has no right to exist' line lately. Here is the time line.... In the last 48-24 hours, Israel announced that it was considering bombing the Iranian nuclear installations - reported on the back pages. About a day later, Ahmadinejad announced that Israel has no right to exist - reported on the front pages. Happened the same way last time around. Gwynn Dyer described in one of his books (sorry can't remember the title) the 'politique du pire'. This is a situation where one side of a dispute constantly goads the other into finally responding in a way that can be made to look bad in the press. Dyer said that the Arabs do it to the Israelis. In fact the Israelis do it constantly. They have broken just about every cease fire with the Palestinians with just this in mind. And now they are doing this to the Iranians (who, by the way, are Persians and not Arabs).

You live in Ontario. Good for you. You can help 'these people' - o man, I love that expression. Right up there with 'you people'.... You can spend pennies to help 'these people' do what they do better or... ...you can find a way to help hundreds of thousands of high income earners drive their cars from their homes to their offices... And when it comes time to claim sovereignty over the north and south shores of the mighty Fleuve, whom do you expect will be credible?

Sure they were. Robert Fisk describes a meeting he had with an Israeli Airforce pilot about how the IAF picked their targets. They were given pictures of buildings to be bombed. Those buildings were identified by a process the pilot refused to discuss. This was a country in the middle of a civil war. Israel had connected with the Phalange - perhaps weaker than the other factions, but certainly not stronger. Guess who was identifying the targets... The Israeli pilots would make two runs. Fisk had it timed. They would come in low and do a pass. Between 10 and 15 minutes later, they would come in and deliver their payload. Fisk asked the guy about this. What he said was that the pilots were working from pictures of the buildings they were to bomb. They came in on the 2nd run and tried to hit the buildings that looked most like the pictures. Get the picture?

I watched that speech on the telly, then I read its coverage in the Globe and Mail... In a few words, he escalated the situation from being about Israel to being about Jews. And he got a standing applause for it. According to Harper, Hezbollah wants to kill all of the Jews. Forget the history of Israel in Lebanon. The constant plotting from Ben Gurion onward to take over South Lebanon up to the Litani. Forget the bombing of Lebanon by Arial ***cough*** psychopath *** cough*** Sharon that killed 15,000 civilians. Those who do not remember the past, are doomed to repeat it. And then we have a party desperate for ridings in Toronto... As I watched that performance, I thought... this is what you get from a guy whose view of the world comes from collecting donations and putting ads in the National Post....
