  1. How is that having an ego and no brains? At the time, faced with a Soviet move into Afganistan and the construction of fighter airbases in the western region of the country, the revolution in Iran, all indications were that the Soviets were going to make a play to open up the Gulf to their military influence. So, given the geography and the inability to mount a force that could counter the Soviet forces, what would your solution be? Allow the Soviets to take over Iran and enter the Gulf? Or, prop up some local forces to make the situation untenuable for them? So, given that this is an ego play with no brains, please give us an example of how it was. And while you are at it, explain how siding with Stalin against Hitler was also an ego with no brains operation please. And, while you are at it, please give me the larger examples as you said this one was only a small one. And which country is not? Russia? China? France? Canada? Who? Who in this world is not doing what they can for their own people and power Lonius? And, when you point one out, I'll show you a governemnt that is not looking after the interests of their people. I mentioned Talisman and the mines that are owned by us in Guyana, do you think for a moment that if we could, we would not produce more of these underhanded sort of affairs? Aid more despotic regimes that abuse human rights and such for a buck? Let's see, Churchill certainly was crooked in your books with all the deception and sacrificing of human life in order to beat an enemy. Shacklton lied to his men over and over to ensure their suvival. Chirac was in bed with Saddam far more than the US yet none of these people inspire your ire. I smell bigotry. And, while we are on this point, tell me what the world would look like if the USA had not countered the Soviets using proxy forces? Would there even be an internet to talk on? Would Canada be in an economic stranglehold from the Soviet dominated Europe and Far East? This is a lingthy assignment so I can wait a few days.
  2. Correct. I am right wing and I won't vote for the Conservative party. They are simply doing what they have to in order to get in power. Personal convictions all go by the wayside as they compromise their beliefs to get a vote. Stronach was only doing what they all would've liked to do as the party simply caters to what they think will be different than the Liberals yet palatable to mainstream Canadians to get a vote. I refer to the opportunists and I believe it has been coined since as 'Lib Lite'. It's also a true meter of how stupid and trivial some people are when they refer to this goat show as 'the extreme right'. They're left of center for crying out loud, just the way Martin was playing just before he lost the election. I stumbled onto Free Dominion just before election time and got into it with some gent who was a stamped 'conservative' and expoused why I won't vote for those clowns. He stated that first, they had to get in power, then they could work for change. I disagree. You don't compromise your principals for anything and, as the 'Party of Principals' to compromise for political expediency is bullshit. Some convictions. Some 'extreme right' party.
  3. Well, I take this stuff pretty seriously and the one outside my house has been going up and down like an Chinese elevator for the past few days. Now, thanks to your dad, it's up again. "Sparky, fix the petard! Prepare to hoist!"
  4. Like? Nearly spewed my coffee looking forward to your list of countries doing things the right proper way Lonius. Make sure China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, France, Germany and all the others who have a five hundred year history of ripping resources out of less advanced civilizations and giving nothing back but strife. Got to get this list from you. Don't forget Canada and Talisman as well as the Guyanan mines we have. Should be interesting reading when you done. Yes, and prior to Nike there was a paradise. People didn't have to work as they wore fruit for clothes and mated like apes between feasts. And look at what happened, jobs. Not great jobs but beats having to go to festival after festival.
  5. The world is as it is not because we made it but because it was left to us this way. To change it requires a lot of changes from everybody, not just the US.
  6. The entire world, Muslim extremist and communist China included. It provides leverage for man so that he can operate machines which produce far more than he could by hand. It has also allowed there to be more food and transport that food to areas where there is little or none. And this has allowed man to multiply in areas where he previously could not. Once started, there was no going back. As any and every country that could has done. Then, act as policeman to keep those interests from being in jeapardy. If you knew anything about Bob and his politics, you wouldn't dare quote him. Anyhow, times a changing? Wow, stop the presses. If it means less agitation then it is good for business. The US strives to be number one but if somebody else is, then that means there is a better way which is good for the US as it allows them to trade and grow with them. Trade and industry does not grow unless conditions both political and economic grow with it. Hence, a CHina that is industrialized is less militarized and subsequently a threat to life. Huh? Wow, Chomsky is not a nut and only a nut would say that. 'Heed the warning' - get real. A prosperous China is another trading partner to sell and buy from. Surely you must know about the intertwining of the economies that has already occured with the IT undustry and such - Bill Gates meeting with the president last month and all? Well gee wiz, imagine, a country trying to secure resources. Imagine! What insanity has gotten ahold of them? Wello, if they can make a better deal than the US then guess they are better at it. And as such, the US would have to adopt similar methods. Or, if they are failing, then they might consider adopting the methods used by the US in kind. You talk of the US as if it is a person with a singular ego and no brains. They will do what they have to do in order to feed it's population and secure it's territory. If it is better to be number two in order to get this done than that will be what happens. If not, then they will maintain their hedgemony in whatever catagory best suits their needs. Happiness has squat to do with it on both sides - necessity and common sense does. Great cartoons BTW! And not even as you say. There are shades of grey within swaths of bright white and brilliant black. And all people are trying to promote their own agenda - all people. Not just the US. Chess games within chess games and all hold power and have more indsght into what is going on than many give them credit for.
  7. Well gee, now look, the shoe is suddenly on the other foot with the entire frickin human race being portrayed as armed viligantes. Gimmie a break please. Society did not commit the atrocious acts these guys did and, as a whole, compared to the diddler 6.2 rate of recommitting, what are the overall stats for a Charles Bronson type citizen to commit an act based upon a list? Ahhhhhh .....000000000000001%? Yet, they are, according to your rationale all guilty of being armed, willing and ready to shoot one of these guys as soon as their name hits the list. Reality check please. As for singling them out and such, hell, probably a Leafs fan so good to go. Just keep your hands off my kids ass. And, the anti list guy down the road just loves them as a left wing poster child so I imagine it would all work out pretty even what, with weirdo chicks wanting to bed a sex offender and all so enough of the feel sorry aspect. You mean to say that if there is a person in your neighborhood that is at an almost ten percent chance of abducting and raping a kid who is looking for a lost cat that you feel you don't need or have a protective desire to know about an enhanced danger to your kid? My frickn lord, that's retarted. In fact, it is worse than retarted, it's criminally insane and irresponsible to the point where you would potentially sacrifice a child to be politically correct. I mean, you don't warn your children about things that are dangerous? My lord, I'm beggining to think the left is insane. I give up. There is no registry here so this is a moot problem for us. I will, as a webmaster inform people if an offender is in my area however, and, work towards creating a registry. You people who think these people are harmless will be proven correct over and over again and then, quietly, some guy will reoffend in an ususpecting neighborhood. There will be a quick cry for a registry and then, people like you will stiffle it and cycle repeats.
  8. Off the top of my head, the US does industry and deals better than anybody else. that's why they own a good part of the world. And, you can bet they would rather be developing rather than going to war. Furthermore, it does China no good whatsoever to go to war with the country they consider one of their best tading partners, very self defeating. India hates communism so is unlikely to be part of a Chinese/Russian conspiracy to thrwart the US. What is happening there is a complete signification of true sucess, the US no longer has to be the policeman of the world as the world is becomming a trading parner rather than a war enemy. And Chomsky doesn't get it. Oh, econonmic and diplomatic plays? Gee, thought the US was war mongers. Well, nuclear war is somwhat disruptive to trading. Anything that can be slanted into an anti US edge - this is Chomsky's problem, it all has a predetermined ending. Tehran's fear of a revolution from an ever increasing cognisent society and their tribal mullah rule who have no way of coping with the mix of the world's influencing their people and them trying to hold a medival sway have no rrelevence in his view. Nor does India being caught between extremist Muslims, a hegemonic Russia and an encroaching China hold any merit at all. I mean, it's the USA that is to blame for everything for crying out loud. Even in the best of circumstances, that means the rest of the world has sat on their hands so long that Mickey Mouse should be able to take over. Damm, think I'll use this as the base for another essay for the Werewolf if you don't mind.
  9. And if they don't buy anything form the west they will have lots of money to spend nothing on. The Sand People need MTV too and will need to have more money to get it now that all prices are going up.
  10. The 'Brain' is falable and here, he is. Iran has far less interest in it's own energy needs than economic and cutual power within the region. One that has been left wide open since the US arrived to depose Saddam. While layered in his thinking, and, quite right on most topics, the overall premise is usualy biased. Here, the US needs Iran and, the Mullahs need the US. A bad deal for both but, one that leaves the Iraqi government in a situation of power from all sides. As a Chomsky rreader myself, you would do well to take his short term and smaller observations and use them to enrich your own knowledge and directional interpretations of events as they happened from a unique perspective. However, as an overall filter for history and the world, he is very wrong and biased much of the time. I find no fault in him however. One of the greatest thinkers of our times and should be listened to. He is but a source though. Not an end. Short essay on Chomsky's falibillity.
  11. If the producer wasn't making this, he would be making that. This obviously fills a gap in his soul. One that popens him up for critisism and spritual reward. I'm willing to bet he is already a millionaire may times over and knows that whatever he makes will make money, and those backers know that otherwise they would not give him the money to go ahead. So, it is what is he going to make. Here, he went to a lot of trouble to make it factual and able to hold interest as well as tell a story that has many characters. And, out of it, we can see what it may have been like and appreciate the people who figured it out as they were about to meet death, I applaud him. And, hope he makes a lot of money too. I mean, Moore made big on his bullshit gig of distorted editing, why shouldn't this guy with his painstakingly accurate as possible and dramatic enhancement of the events of the 93 flight?
  12. People, there is a thing called tradition and ceremony. The military has their traditions and ceremony and those who were one of them will always be one of them. As they come off the aircraft, before they become the families, they are given a goodbye. If you want to take part in that ceremoney, then join the frickin army and do it. If you want to watch play ceremony then watch a movie or the changing of the guards, if you want real stuff then become one of them and then, when they do their real ceremony, you will get to have first hand sight of what is going on. If you want stats on how many and how they died, read the paper as the military reports the deaths. And, if the families wish to have tv crews filming and giving play by plays, they can request them at the gravesite or, charge tickets if they want. the main point is, this is a military show, not a civillian and, if Harper wished it to be wide open to the tv of the country, the military would more than liekly tell him where to shove it. You know what really has my goat? All the assholes demanding full coverage who won't even watch it when death #227 is carried to the hearse. A tired cameraman with a reporter doing the old coverage between smokes with the footage not even going on tv. It's the flash, the zing, the pomp or, the politics. In any case, the military will never send them through a meat grinder but the media will as it becomes blasee' Our heros are too good for that and your need to see the military do a sacred ceremony is extremely secondary. You want figures, you got 'em. You want to see the cermony? Rent Gardens of Stone. You want dead bodies? Go to the internet and, if you want to honor these guys, write a letter and then saying you think the Taliban should be kiled and they are doing a great job and to keep it up, if you own a busineess, give them free stuff till they cant take free no more but don't pull this shit. Honor them on November 11 like you should honor my fahter, his father and me and, all the guys who ever placed themselves on the wrong side of a gun. Particularily those that died. That's after you let the military and the family have whatever ceremony they wish - public or private. Hey, you want to honor these guys, push for better helecopters, more recruit to get them all more home time. More money to attract more Arab speaking soldiers, more bribe money to find the bad guys etc. This flag crap is hubris. To all those that 'support the troops' when was the last time you called up the local base and said "hey, any wife of a soldier that needs her lawn mower tuned can call me" or fixed her car for free? Never. This is all posturing. Wanna show support, send money and cap the cake hole. They will appreciate it more. Save the tears for the 11th.
  13. Wise words indeed. And, to my 11 year old daughter I give the same advice with 'and in particular, do whatever you can do to stay away from that man that lives in that house. Do not go near him, speak with him and if he speaks to you scream and run.' Who said that we relax when they are not on a list? The list is not designed to persecute, allow people to relax when a name is not on it. Those are all counter arguments thrown out by people against the list that have no merit and are false. The list is designed to provide the indentity of people who you would not wish within one mile of your child as they are at an extreme risk given the ramifications to do severe harm. It does not, in any way, lessen the risk from others to your child. The list is an aid, not an end.
  14. In this case I disagree. However, I seem to find this sort of crime more serious than you. Maybe that is the difference between us. I concur. Now, until that happens, I think it prudent we have a registry! On with the weekend!!!
  15. Playing loud music is not the same as murdering a soul. I think that those who are playing loud music would be quickly identified and given a warning or ticket by the authorities, hence, no registry required and, if there were one, nobody would give a shit. Still don't get it huh? An ax murderer has more goodness in their hearts than these people. You are dealing with a concsience that may be darker than Hitler's. Not a casual gang banger or a speeder but a person that has put all social and ethical virtues behind the one thing they want more than anythng else - an orgasm. A ten second blitz of pleasure that they arre willing to sacrifice everything for - their freedom, soul and the life of a helpless human being. And you don't wish to know where they are, even if they are more liekely to commit the offence again more than any other group of people. My one argument has remained the same throughout this thread - have a registry so that parents can know who in their neighborhood is at high risk to molest their childrren and make sure their children know to avoid those people. Others, including yourself have bandied about witch hunt, equating it to stereos, against their rights, not necessary, diluting the 6.2 reoffending fact with the dumping in of every type of crime commited even though it changes not the 6.2 sex offender fact. I can see that you have no solid argument and are simply thrashing about hoping to hit one that might stick so, wonder, what is the one actual reason you are against this? Edit: The argument that some might use it to seek vengeance is moot as any system can be abused. In fact, these people abused the social system to begin with yet we don't go on a 'witch hunt' to shut down society simply because some use it for personal gain. Possibly, having such a registry would act as a further detterent. I doubt it though as people like this are so selfish that the repercussions of their actions are not likely to stop them. Neither will stern warnings to not reoffend. So, what to do to protect your kids if they are out and about amongst us? We have no mind reading ability so we go on past performance - those that offended and were released at at a 6.2% risk to reoffend. Much higher than the average person is to offend for the first time.
  16. A flag draped coffin is being carried off a plane. You heard about the deaths as the military announces them, you even get the names, how they died and when the bodies will be back in Canada. What more do people need? The military wishes to have their private ceremony. The families can choose wether to have cameras at the gravesite or not. So, problem and reason for? If the public wishes to pay respects, every Nov 11 they can.
  17. Thank you Lonius, I was beggining to feel that my point was falling on deaf ears. These people are not common criminals, they are impulsive animals who will destroy anything to get their way. To even think that they have been rendered harmless or that the public should not be aware of the dark soul inside one of their neighbors is irresponsible.
  18. Yes and one edge is the fact that 6.2 % of those who have done it will do it again and thus, the public would benifit by knowing where these peole are so they can make damm sure their kids don't ever go near them. That is a sound rationale similar to announcing a high collision area on the roads. Hardly a witch hunt. In a witch hunt, you simply throw everybody into a group and then begin to randomly pick out whomever you wish. Here, there are clear indications of high risk offenders.
  19. Want to see Army ceremony? Go visit Kingston in the summer when they hold the drill competitions. In the meantime, if you really want to see the military up close, join it. The taps are not for public consumption, they are to honor fellow and fallen soldiers, not sell papers, tickets to curious onlookers, people wanting some sort of spectacle or use as a political statement. Reality of war? People get killed, things get destroyed. If people can't figure that out then they certainly wouldn't get much out of watching a flag draped coffin being carried by soldiers.
  20. Maybe. Now with a registry, the chances of a kid ending up in this guy's backyard helping him find his puppy are lowered and, the chances of something happening in the first place. Missing the point. These guys are at an increased risk to offend so it is pointing out an obvious danger rather than 'lulling' 8% will reoffend is a large number. The 92% who do not are still at increased risk to offend with no guarantees they will not. Gee, it's six out out of a hundred rather than 8. My argument is destroyed. Cool. We agree, done with you then. Out of the child molestors, 6.2% will reoffend. I don't give a damm if a grannie who didn't pay her parking tickets is not on the list, it is the former whom I advocate having the public informed of where he is as they reoffend. You seem to discount the inhuman phsyce involved in the perpetrator's soul and equate it to somebody that has one. To commit an offence as heinious as this means the person has something missing upstairs. I don't care if they never get out of jail and, belive they hav and can never pay their debt to society. Hence, they shouldn't be living amongst us in the first place. Much more. Now, what are the odds if there are a hundred convicted and freed molestors and a hundred average people who have never commited a sexual crime. Which group do you think will commit a sexual crime first? (your answer must come in the form of a question)
  21. Eight percent of released offenders of all types of sexual crimes recommit. That means that pretty much one out of every ten people on a registry will commit the same offence. Yes so eight percent of peds will recommit. Basically, every tenth name on the registry will attempt to molest a child again. These people are not suspected 'witches' in some superticious world whom we randomely pick out for persecution, they are convicted child molestors with a ten percent chance of reoffending. Hardly fear based, the rationale to steer your child away from any in your neighborhood is a logical one given the risk and repercussions.
  22. Just? Tough. Eight percent of these people go on to commit new sexual crimes. With odds like that, I think the public is entitled to some slack. Like the inquisition my ass, these are convicted criminals who do great harm and with an almost ten percent chance to reoffend it is hardly based on 'fear' and 'unreasonable rationale.' If it were akin to the inquisition we would have everybodies name on the damm thing so let's try to keep this in perspective shall we?
  23. The Taliban would more than likely continue hammering away at the weak government until they came back into power. Hope that helps.
