  1. Perhaps you should move there and preach to the Jews, you know convert them to your superior morals and ethics. After all, that is what Jesus would do. You are a fool to believe that any group of people targeted by another group of people will stand idle when explosions destroy their homes and kill their people. I tire of this endless argument of proportional responses and civilian concerns. We are talking about the right of a nation to respond to terrorists, nothing less. Ontario Loyalist, please answer this question. What would you do if the person on the other side of the fence from you started shooting at you? Call the cops? Well lets say there are no cops, now what then? I would suggest that you would defend yourself. Its either that or run and hide and give away your home and possessions to a criminal. This isn't complicated thinking, it requires no great effort to come to some form of conclusion. Be realistic, be adult, and answer the question, what would you do?
  2. I would still prefer to see the government reduce our tax load. They, the government, need to get their own house in order and cut their spending. Dumping money into the auto companies won't do the trick. Neither will bailing out the forestry or fishing industries. Even so, that is where all the federal parties want to go, into deficits and spending sprees. Wrong plan at the wrong time. The only way spending increases and deficits can help us if the money goes into the creation of infrastructure. More employment equals more tax revenues.
  3. The article above provides no solutions at all. What are you referring to? Exactly what is it that you think should be done?
  4. The same argument can be turned against you now couldn't it. Let me put it this way. You and people much like you are the reason for separatist feelings in the west. I have heard much garbage on this forum but never have I heard that Alberta caused the loss of jobs in Ontario. Why not blame the failure of the auto industry on us as well? How about the financial crisis? Global warming? World hunger? What else has Alberta done to you?
  5. I am willing to bet this assault will go on until at least the end of the month.
  6. Argus, this is a huge nation with almost limitless wealth in its natural resources. Having said this we have a population density of 3.36 per square kilometer, Sweden has 21.69, Norway has 14, Finland has 16. Numbers do matter. Besides this you have to consider that 4/5 of our population lives within 100kms of the southern border. The north is unpopulated for the most part. That is where much of our mineral wealth can be found. We have the north to consider Argus, it needs to be developed. Perhaps that is where we should send immigrants?
  7. There were big shortages in Alberta, but that has changed since the recession has kicked in. There were 20000 layoffs in Fort Mac in November, and there has been more than 20 billion dollars of investment withdrawn or put on hold. Hey baby if Alberta feels a pinch, Ontario will be squeezed hard.
  8. I think it is safe to say that Harpers hold on power is weak at best. On the other hand Iggy has no power at all in his own right. It will take all of the opposition parties to topple the government. Any attempt to do that is a risky venture, you might get an election and then again you might not. That decision belongs to the GG, who is free to decide as she sees fit. So what can reasonably be expected is that Harper will provide both a throne speech and a budget that is acceptable to opposition parties. He gets to keep his job if he does this. Meanwhile Steve is smart enough to know what an order in council is and I would expect him to utilize this powerful tool to do pretty much anything he wants. Legislation will continue to be put forth, but Harper will not allow a confidence vote to come of any of it. He will appear to be walking the walk, but he will be just talking the talk. Iggy has about one, maybe two chances to deal with Harper before the Commons takes its next break. If he does not act immediately he will have to wait, and that isn't a bad thing for him or the Liberals. If he waits, then Harper get a lot of rope to play with. There are simply too many things going on for Harper to come off looking good. Right now, until the economy improves, whoever is in power is going to be roasted alive without being able to do anything about it. There are no "right" moves only wrong ones.
  9. If this nation is to prosper we will have to increase both our population and productive capacity.
  10. So how should Israel respond? Should they live with rocket attacks?
  11. David was against free trade! I liked him!
  12. I would! Simply because I think it would help with bolstering the market. Lots of jobs in construction, and a lot of little guy capital tied up in real estate. In my view the thing to do is spur consumer spending and the way to do that is increasing disposable income. Take a freaking source deduction and realize a raise every payday.
  13. You don't actually need it, because there is the Smith Manuever sanctioned by the court system.
  14. Damned well said! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
  15. The Saudis fund a goodly portion of the munitions for the enemies of Israel. They are no friends of the Jews. Sooner or later those folks will be exposed for what they really are.
  16. There is no doubt that both sides have history. Nobody will dispute that point. Yet one side elects a terrorist organization to lead them. Lead them where? What can Hamas do besides promise and deliver death and destruction? A nation is responsible for its actions isn't it? So let us look at it this way; Canada launches a few missiles at the USA. Now what do you think the USA will do? What would you do when your neighbor starts throwing bombs over the fence? In the truest sense, that is the essence of the question. Sometimes you just don't get a lot of choices. look at the history books for a minute and you will see many occasions where the only choice was to fight. So that is what these folks are doing, fighting for what they believe in. The Jews just want to be left alone to live, the other guys just want to kill the Jews and take their lands. Now which side do you support? Terrorism of diplomacy? You choose..........
  17. The "buyer" was the Canadian Government of John Diefenbaker. Avro had a contract, which they had canceled under them. The government knew what it was getting into with the design and development of the program in the first place. It was going to be expensive, they knew that. The part that is hard to accept is that the money was wasted, every dime of it because of what the government did. There was money to finish each and every plane in the factory, and that included RL206-213 which were in various phases of completion. RL206 had the Iroquois engines installed and everything else was complete, it was scheduled for taxi tests within days when it was cut up. They cut up everything, at additional expense mind you. The government should have at least finished the run it had already paid for and used the platform for research if nothing else instead of wasting the money to destroy everything. It would have been the highest flying and fastest interceptor in the world. It could have been reconfigured to do other things, but is was designed as an interceptor. The Americans pursued this course of action for years as did the Russians. The threat of bombers still exists today. Look at the Russian Backfire and the American B1 and B2. There is still a whole lot of Russian Bear Bombers out there, in fact we intercepted a few of them last year! The role was and is needed, and it is being filled with American aircraft bought for with Canadian tax dollars. It was a waste of money to destroy the planes, not to build them. The myth of poor planning is the political legacy left by the "Chief" as an excuse for his own incompetence in canceling the program. Wannabe Americans and right wing nut Conservatives all lay claim to the intelligent decision to cancel the program, that speaks volumes all by itself.
  18. We must disagree then. You are either very young or very foolish to believe what you do. You seem to draw conclusions from your own misunderstandings, much the way the peoples of the middle east do as well. Israel has a right to exist, Gaza does not. That is my opinion, and I make it known simply because Hamas is a terrorist organization and as such has no place in society.
  19. Let us hope they finish what they have started and do what needs to be done.
  20. Turn Gaza into rubble and then push the rubble into the sea, that is what I propose. There is simply no civilized way to deal with those people. They need to be treated the way they treat people. I am not interested in their learning curves when it comes to a point like this. They will reap what they have sewn. They choose to live by the sword and now they shall die by the sword.
  21. The idea shall whither on the vine. It will never see an order paper.
  22. The gist of rationalizing the public service is two fold. Reducing government expenditures is only one facet of the effort, the other is service delivery. The "for profit" concept is flawed, in as much as it applies to the public sector. Tax dollars being spent need not turn a profit, especially if that would interfere with efficient service delivery. You see the profit is an added cost, and in terms of service delivery it becomes an impediment. Job elimination is another story altogether, yet one in which an equitable solution is possible.
  23. The legend goes on because of fools who don't believe. There were no foreign buyers because the project was canceled.
  24. The real estate issue is indeed perplexing. I must continue to suggest that it should be tax deductible, freeing up disposable income for families is a key to the crisis that we are indeed walking into. That aside, a way must be found to reduce government expenditures. That does not mean cutting services and programs, it does mean that we need to start spending less money. We need to rethink our social programs and just about everything else to find ways to improve service deliveries.
  25. All that I can find in this regard is that we invested 150 million into the project. It seems we are upgrading the CF18 fleet and expect it to be servicable until 2017. No mention of buying the J35 was found on a quick google search.
