  1. “Since last week, the team learned that the Obama administration declined to honor the Haudenosaunee passports, and instead has asked the group to travel on U.S. passports – an action that would violate the sovereignty of the six Haudenosaunee (or Iroquois) Confederacy nations – the Onondaga, Mohawk, Seneca, Oneida, Tuscarora and Cayuga. Haudenosaunee citizens have been traveling internationally on their own passports for more than 30 years, said Chief Oren Lyons.”My link So much for the much vaunted passport. It can't be used to get into the USA, that much is clear. Lie number one. My link "The Royal Proclamation of 1763 In the Royal Proclamation of 1763, as the British Empire established control over North America, guidelines for the government's relationship with Aboriginal people were set. These are still relevant today. The Royal Proclamation describes the basis for the historical and modern day treaties. The Royal Proclamation of 1763 recognized that: • Aboriginal people lived on traditional lands • Interest in those lands belonged to groups and nations, not individuals • Only the Crown could buy or accept Aboriginal lands • The Crown generally required an agreement to obtain lands from Aboriginal people • Aboriginal people were under the Crown's protection The Royal Proclamation of 1763 is very significant. It defines Canada's special relationship with Aboriginal people and sets out the basis in law for Aboriginal land ownership and other rights." 1763 makes it pretty clear that the Crown "established control over North America". In so doing they set "out the basis in law for Aboriginal land ownership and other rights." What this really means is that aboriginal rights are those determined by the crown.
  2. I think CR will disagree with you. Under the system, both side are allowed to be stupid. What is worse is that the SCOC, cannot create law, only the government can though an Act of Parliament. The system sucks. There is only one viable solution and that is self government for First Nations peoples. That is the only way to make it work. Bands are really just small communities, and everyone will agree that folks ought to be able to do for themselves, no different on or off a reserve. The problem as I see it stems from the concept of not being Canadian. without being a citizen of Canada as some would say that leaves no option but self government.
  3. Yeah, but it makes sense here because of several factors. Keep in mind the dummies that formed this great nation of mine had no trouble in accepting the Crown's bad debts, and the Crown's bad system of democracy. We even accepted foreign power and control of our military, just happy to have the status of a thrall. The Supreme Court rules in favour of appeasement instead of resolution, the actions of a cowardly government, in the name of political correctness. We cannot rewrite history, nor should we try. We inherited a mess, and have never grown the spine to do anything about it!
  4. Maybe in the USA, but not here. Welfare isn't a fed program here its provincial coverage. Apples don't equal oranges up here in the frozen chosen. Three layers of taxes from three levels of government, not including the entire sin tax batch of slaps upside the head. There may only be one tax payer but that guy is carved up like a Christmas turkey in Canada.
  5. Isn't CR saying its the other way around?
  6. A lay person that attempts to use a SCC ruling will most likely be left to wonder what the answer really is. Legalisms and various terminologies we simply don't use make up a vast portion of legal rulings. They are not to be taken lightly without professional advice. Well we seem to have have a real problem then. You may have defined the issue very well with this sentence. Well isn't that something! The treaties themselves are flawed. Who knew! So says you. Who are you anyway? What do you do for a living CR?
  7. I would not recommend open and blatant revolt. I would advocate taking a serious step toward resolution. Elect a group of representatives stroll down to the House of Commons and demand to be heard. Make them look bad, create optics that favour your position. Get real and get serious.
  8. I hope that sometime soon, folks will realize that the role of government is to look after its citizens. WE have a private sector for business. Its not about being anti-business, its just learning to do its job that the government needs to work on. Let the private sector play in the markets, setup and run business for profit. I don't trust the government on a good day, let alone trusting my boss in the private sector for a heartbeat.
  9. If we had any brain power in the federal government we would be developing the north, that effort would be sustainable for decades. Enough time to get our act together.
  10. Well CR, what can I say ? A way to solve the issues MUST BE found. Why not lock up the two sides and demand resolution ? It is way past time to deal with the issues.
  11. I am not sure what the cause of the problems is or was, and I am convinced the Government of Canada doesn't either. That is why I believe there are issues in the first place. It always has taken two to tango and we know what a bunch of rocket scientists we elect on a regular basis so its not a stretch to imagine there will be problems in negotiations! I fault both sides on this one, there had better be enough room for all the responsible people to have a seat at a table and a bed in a room for as long as it takes to get OUR collective shit together and resolve the issues. I suggest locking all the stake holders up someplace until they resolve their differences, period.
  12. That is funny, because I agree with them and you, and that just never happens!!
  13. I got caught up in the part about "“Occupation” means “physical occupation” and “exclusive occupation” means an intention and capacity to retain exclusive control of the land. ". Interesting point.
  14. Perhaps you will leave it at that, but I highly doubt it. I believe you are just spoiling for a fight. I think that after reading so many of your posts that you are a no account fool. I believe you to be both bias and bogus. I have little respect for the bullies and punks of our society, which I believe you to be.
  15. Answer the question, please....
  16. I am just guessin' that things haven't seemed to have panned out to well for CR. If you believe him, the SCC has already sided with the same views as CR.
  17. I don't actually "feel" anything about it. However I do think there is much to be resolved. Compromise will be required on both sides. Having said that, neither side can be harmed in any way. In my view, the First Nations folks "NEED" self government. They need to deal with their own issues, in their own way. Only they can solve their problems. What really needs to happen is that all outstanding issues must be resolved. I really don't believe that any money will change hands, its not about the money, because if it is about money you can bet there will be more generations gone by before any resolution will likely be found.
  18. My my, it seems there are some ruffled feathers. Oh well, thats the way it goes. Okay we made treaties, and we exchanged government concessions for the right to occupy their former lands. By the way, what part of political correctness has us begging forgiveness for the sins of our fathers?
  19. The profit motive is the killer issue.
  20. We came, we saw, and we conquered. That is the history of the event, however in the name of political correctness, its all OUR fault. We did not do the deed, we are getting stuck with the tab. Yet it is time to have a frank discussion about the First Nations peoples, within our own groups, and it is time to take that to a conversation with the First Nations. Personally I suggest that they simply leave the reserves and join us as citizens of this nation.
  21. I see the trail the feds are already leaving as they back away from a table they just dropped a bomb on. Wake up dude, the changes are coming hard and fast now. He has the majority he said he needed, and he has his agenda set. Harper just got a new hunting license, and he isn't shooting blanks anymore.
  22. You may very well be right.
