  1. THIS ( above) was the right decision. WRONG!!! The violence by a recognized country clingling to survival is one thing; flinging rockets at random into populated areas is another. That is the definition of moral equivalence.
  2. I'm not a Canadian, but just guessing.............. The CBC?
  3. Has GerryHatrick ever initiated a thread that was not about Harper?
  4. The one thing the West should have learned from bitter experience is how to fight these "people". These "people" often times take advantage of the very civilized tradition of not attacking a retreating army; and then they counter-attack. Civilization is a stranger to their culture.
  5. Absolutely. I live in an affluent area, and literally everyone is re-building their houses as close as they legally can to the lot lines. Remember, the "original" version of these houses were what many of their current owners grew up in, quite happily. And I drove a Toyota Corolla during the 1980's, a Camry now. The parking lot at soccer games is full of SUV's in spite of $3 US per gallon gas. The free market is starting to catch up with a lot of this foolishness.
  6. This is unbelievable. Someone sent me a "blog" posting on this story. Another poster googled it and found, sadly, that it is true. Comments? ========================================================== Published: 08/22/2006 12:00 AM (UAE) Mumbai's 'Hitler' restaurant angers Jewish community (link) Reuters Mumbai: A new restaurant in India's financial hub, named after Adolf Hitler and promoted with posters showing the German leader and Nazi swastikas, has infuriated the country's small Jewish community. *snip* "We are not promoting Hitler. But we want to tell people we are different in the way he was different." *snip* Posters line the road leading up to it, featuring a red swastika carved in the name of the eatery. One slogan reads: "From Small Bites to Mega Joys". A huge portrait of a stern-looking Fuehrer greets visitors at the door. The cross in the restaurant's name refers to the swastika that symbolised the Nazi regime.
  7. I could not find anywhere where their platform of '96 calls for the total destruction of the Israeli state. I know of the 1985 document that does call for the elimination of the zionist entity. But the 96 document is what is published on their websites, not the 85 document. Your inability to read and comprehend simple English renders your arguments nul and void. What that paragraph says to me is that they will continue the resistance until Israel leaves the occupied lands. Occupied strip is reference to the Gaza strip. They also mention to refuse to take seriously the negotiations that would allow Israel to have any control over the palestinians at the expense of the palestinians. What the paragraph implies is that if Israel makes final borders within the legal Israeli state, the resistance will end. So what did i miss? Andrew I guess you have no memory at all. I'm a bit of an amnesiac, but I do recall that Arafat was offered 97% of that land back in 2000 by Clinton and Barak. Arafat's response was to demand a "right of return" of Arabs to the remaining parts of Israel. They frankly consider post-1948 Armicist (sp) and pre-1967 boundaries to be "occupied territory" as well.
  8. Health is supposed to be a provincial responsibility, from what little I know about Canada (remember I'm an ignorant Yank).
  9. What this has to do with Ignatieff I'm not sure, but neither US nor Canadian gasoline taxes have, since 1972, kept pace with inflation. They should be raised at least to levels that would reflect the impact of inflation, or be roughly quadruple 1972 tax levels. In New York, in 1972, state and federal taxes equaled about 16 cents per gallon. Those should now be around 64 cents per gallon. They are roughtly 45 cents per gallon now. New York, being a high-taxing state, has lost less ground than other states to inflation in its taxation of gasoline.
  10. Your inability to read and comprehend simple English renders your arguments nul and void. But WestViking, Hezbollah says it wants to "liberate". Doesn't that mean to free, to establish liberty?
  11. That is a bitterly offensive comment. The Nazi Holocaust had its "official" beginnings with a mass police and military riot against Jews called Christallnacht, where synagogues, Jewish homes and businesses were wantonly smashed to pieces by thugs, with the police and armed forces helping or just standing by. Jews were hauled off to concentration camps "for their own protection". Eventually, mass gassings started. By the time it was done, 1/3 of the Jews alive in 1933 were dead. The level of human savagery was unimaginable before. Since then, only the Muslims and perhaps the rulers of Democratic Kampuchea, Chairman Mao and the rulers in Pyong Yang have emulated it. The Israelis, on the other hand, are defending themselves against random and wanton slaughter of a kind illsutrated in the US on September 11, 2001. The kind of slaughter which considers slaughtering a father and daughter having a last talk before her wedding, in a cafe, an act of heroism. The same kind of slaughter where people like Saddam Hussein pay families with teenage children for their children to blow themselves to smithereens to kill others. Youro comparison, like that of Eurotrash politicians, is disgusting and morally bankrupt. They are very smart comments to make. They are the truth. Finally, Canada has a leader not afraid to say the obvious, the simple and the true. I'm urban myself. When I went to Cornell as an 18 year old, I assumed that the students at the State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (so-called "Aggies") would be ignorant bumpkins. Until I switched out of pre-med with a "C" first semester freshman chemistry, and a lower grade second semester.=, and many of them got "A's". And until they started changing my politics away from reflexively leftist positions by the force of their arguments. Why not watch, listen and learn before you insult?
  12. Maybe we'll be lucky enough that each of the candidates will form their own parties, taking a leaf from Reform in 1987 and the Bloc in 1991-2.
  13. It would be darned nice if the government fell on this. Imagine, the Liberals campaigning against something they couldn't accomplish?
  14. In many people's books, that's an invitation to negotiations. Seriously, why in anyone's right mind would anyone pressure Israel or any other country to engage in "negotiations" with that kind of entity?
  15. I'm saying, in my opinion, people are referring to countries (or countries' leaders at any particular time) as being 'honest brokers' who are "...countries that recognize and have diplomatic ties with Israel, but are fundamentally hostile to Israel retaining defensible borders or the ability to take necessary action to protect itself". In other words, they mouth platitutdes supporting Israel, but oppose policies that Israel needs to protect itself in a dangerous part of the world. Maybe later on. Rushing out to work.
  16. I'm disappointed. I thought Ignatieff would return the Liberals to common sense policies. The signs were good on the Middle East issues. I guess a Liberal is a Liberal.
  17. I don't think it's anti-semitism in most cases. The people who hate Israel are usually the same people that hate the U.S. for whatever reasons. Pure envy which quickly transforms into hatred. If you can't join 'em or beat 'em, hate 'em. Works for most leftists. You mean to say these leftists and/or traitors want to join the US or Israel? I sure hope not.
  18. What does this mean? Beyond the capacity of many to understand. Especially those that don't understand that the Sharon government complied with a Supreme Court edict to move the terror wall.
  19. Someting useful, actually, which 90% of the AIDS conferenece attendees were not engaged in. WestViking, I know you're new here. I can see that good, droll sense of humor would help around these parts, for those who can follow it.
  20. I'd like to know how much each office receives, and hwo each benefits any ordinary FN person.
  21. This goes further than opposition. This borders on treason, and to more than just Canada.
  22. I agree with your thrust, but you can be sure that Pakistan's "cooperation" was overlayed with some kind of tribal intrigue.
  23. The fact that there is even serious disagreement about this shows how far the West has gone to committing suicide. Luckily, Hitler saved the West from itself the last time around by going after....gasp.... a left-wing country, the USSR. Maybe tihs time we won't be so lucky. The portents are not good. Back in the early 1970s most countries agreed that Al Fatah was a terrorist organization. Wings of them carried out the Lod Airport Massacre and the Olympic Massacre, both during 1972. The 1973 War gave them the opening wedges of respectability. Kissinger pretended not to negotiate with them, but apparently did on the sly. Arafat was welcomed at the UN in 1974. Why the US gave him safe passage from JFK Airport I will never know. Things have gone downhill since then. The West's appeasement, symbolized by a smiling Yitzhak Rabin, Jimmy Carter, (err, Bill Clinton) and Yasir Arafat on the White House Lawn during 1993 gained us nothing. Every "deal" made with the "Palestinian Authority" was "celebrated" by so-called renegade "Hezbollah" or "Hamas" "fighters with some atrocity. Then, of course, Arafat led "his people" into the disaastrous Second Intifada starting in 2000. Now, we're hearing that Hezbollah is a "negotiating partner" from Canadian MP's. Pure unadulterated barf material.
  24. Is voting all that hard? I personally drive about 300 meters out of my way on the way to work, vote, and go to work. How much harder is it really than that for most people?
  25. Yaro, responding point by point to your post is something I'm not going to do. Suffice to say that Israeli Arabs do vote, if they have obtained Israeli citizenship, and the only right they do not have is (with the exception of Druzes) to serve in the army. Go here for more information.
