  1. this is a well noted position. in that this thread is an attempt to resolve issues besetting our manner of resolving land claims i would surmise that you would not allow for any sort of land claim whatsoever. if we follow your feeling on this would we have a team of sooth-sayers within the department determining from their sense just whose claim is warranted to pursue, or should claims be abolished outright? No. The claims should be reduced to levels proportionate with the value of the surrendered or stolen land, with values reduced to those prevailing at time of the loss. I would also evaluate based on historical factors such as continuity of occupation, etc.
  2. Absolutely does. Especially since condoms do not lend themselves to being stolen and sold by vicious and rapacious "leaders" the way food and cash aid does.
  3. It seems to me that many of the recent claims are in the nature of extortion. The FN (and US equivalents), knowing full well that real estate is extensively developed, improved, and subject to institutional lenders' mortgages as well as being occupied by owners, is seeking a massive rakeoff in exchange for some highly dubious "rights".
  4. Why do you put doctor in quotation marks? Do you have some reason to doubt his medical training? And how do you know where he is placed in any community? These are assumptions you are making based on what - the same thing the drunken passenger based his assumptions and accusations on? I put "doctor" in quotes to highlight my skepticism about the story. Most people of that standing would know that an airplane is a lousy place to want to do Muslim prayers, in this environment.
  5. Not at all. People have the capacity to restrict their sexual activity, and make informed choices about who to have sex with and under what conditions (as do some animals). But they still are subject to their own innate sex drive, and it is unreasonable to expect them to never have sex because the optimum conditions can't be met. Sex is just a part of life, not something dirty or shameful. If we can recognize that, we can stop judging people's sexuality and work on real solutions to HIV. You're missing my point. Certainly among American or Canadian teens, it's not too much to ask that they use a condom, both for pregnancy and AIDS reasons. As for Africa, things are perhaps a bit more complex, and the options fewer. But still, sex should not be conducted in an animalistic manner, particularly when most can ill afford to have many children.
  6. My response is that this "doctor" would be well placed, in the community, to speak out against the dangerous and senseless elements, and that this inconvenience should be a motivating force.
  7. I tihnk a good compromise would be that the owners of the Board should have access to a person's "real" identity, though not other posters.
  8. And your entire post implies that humans, whether in Africa, teens or otherwise, are animals forced by some "mating season" to have sex.
  9. Are there any ridings he could pick up that way though?
  10. As far as "earn(ing) the wrath of every single nation in the area" any non-Islamic nation in an area of Islamic ones is marked for death. Just ask Lebanon's Christians, the Coptic Egyptians, or Hindu India. Oh yes, "elections" in an area where the "Hezbollah Party" is armed to the teeth. How would you like the CPC to enter the next elections armed in that manner?
  11. Actually yes it is more than I expect, I am looking forward to the result of an enquiry. E-mailed from CBC Ombudsman: I should point out that the response of the producer is not my response. I merely passed it along as information. As I said in the note, I am conducting my own review of the coverage. That review should be completed soon.
  12. I honestly thought they'd cure AIDS there.
  13. Not their parents?
  14. Edit that to read: It will take a gang bang by all three opposition leaders to do damage to Harper,an even then they have to be careful so as not ending up damaging their own popularity or an election at a time not of their choosing, i.e. this fall.
  15. The citizens of Britain, a democracy, have chosen to allow their monarch to become wealthy. I wonder what voice ordinary Maoris have in this. Bill Gates engages in economic activity.
  16. I would rate him an A - . He has taken clear and forceful stands on a variety of issues, such as Israel, that seem to eminate from true conviction rather than "finger in the wind". He has kept most of his committment, which is rare for any PM, much less one in a minority government. With regard to my country, wish Bill Clinton had kept more of his committments that he made in 1992. Bush Jr. didn't make many committments.
  17. This New York Times article highlights the death of the "Maori Queen" (link). She died worth approximately $5.7 million. Inquiring minds wonder how she accumulates so much wealth. Looking at how First Nations' band leaders live lavish lifestyles (ditto US Indian chiefs) one wonders if the taxpayers' aid to natives is being squandered. Thoughts?
  18. I'm no fan of Chretien at his worst. I still like to see information that backs up someone's statements. I thought he was Churchillian in his eloquence, especially then.
  19. If they gave that response the same publicity as the misleading report itself, I'd be a lot more impressed. No doubt, they succeeded in making the letter writer feel rather important. Basically, that's not the point.
  20. Please cite your sources for this claim. As a very great leader of a very great democracy once said: "A proof is a proof (Link) What kind of proof ? It's a proof. A proof is proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it is proven."
  21. Just to be nit-picky: it was Hamas that kidnapped those soldiers. The distinction may likely be lost from our perspective now but they are two different bodies. No, Hezbollah did its own kidnapping as well.
  22. Speaking as a parent of a 9 and 10 year old, I 100% agree.
  23. He should stick his head in the stockade so the gays can throw eggs and shaving cream at him? Going to this conference would be only a step more dignified.
  24. Seriously, that is a brilliant idea. I've never thought of it, but if some constitutional problems could be overcome (in my country at least) it should be done.
  25. Great!!! Better summary than I could have given.
