  1. There have been a lot of security issues on planes this week. Some legit, some which are basically a tantrum by a child delaying everyone while security runs around with guns. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,210471,00.html Airlines have to do a better job along with the federal government. No one wants to bail the industry out again because they don't act with better sense. Sometimes industry bailouts are justified. The government's first function is to ensure the safety of its citizens, especially when assembled in large groups. If some group or other is making it dangerous for people to travel or even be together, the government must step in, or else government is not functioning.
  2. I agree with the apology and explanation. But the fact is, it can, will and should happen again.
  3. Sounds like Chretien.
  4. It's a shared responsibility. I can't think of a province that is weak when it comes to making demands from Ottawa. Alberta? My point was they didn't reject Ottawa money in order to retain control.
  5. As I tirelessly point out, you may not get a perfect fit but it's better than nothing. Remember, even if some of the terrorists are white converts, there aren't many of those. Also, they tend to be a bit on the mentally unstable side, and less likely to succeed for a host of reasons. One is that their family is unlikely to support their "endeavors" and may turn them in (unlike Arab or South Asian families). Another is that "community oddbals" are less likely to work well with others. A third is they're just not as good at being a terrorist. Remember Richard Reid? He didn't succeed in his attack for a reason.
  6. I have heard that the provinces were too financially weak to stand up to having their jurisdiction usurped by Ottawa.
  7. Who translates these agreements from Canadian into Australian and back?
  8. You plan on instigating more violence Lora. Where is your truth post it now why do you have to go searching for it (fabricating), You seen mine show me yours. If you mean the truth Gary is searching for why did he not discreatly set up a camera and record the events?I know why he didn't , he did not do so because there is no events. He announced his intentions to gather support from the KKKaledonians to rally around him and create an event for him to record. It may turn out to back fire as I hear caledonians are coming out to meet the KKKaledonians. Not everyone thinks in the rasist tones of you and your group. All we have to do is remain on the land in a defensive position.Does that bother you I have read your post's about removing us by any means, and wish you would stop promoting violence and hatred. Boy this thread descended into the mud fast. Is there a civilized way of discussing this issue?
  9. It's amazing how few Canadians know this. The word should be spread.. the media or elites won't allow us to even talk about.. maybe a website with videa needs to be launched on this. I'm tired of people who live in some of the best countries in the world whining about imperfections. How would you enjoy Cuba? Saudi Arabia? Democratic Kampuchea?
  10. The GST is regressive, no question about it. The good thing about it, though, is that it is highly visible, so it makes people think about whether they want the wonderful programs the government funds. Also, as a consumption tax, it wieghs less on work and effort than income taxes do.
  11. Ralph always speaks so well and so eloquently. The problem with him is he doesn't stand up to Ottawa and fight. He knows what Albertans want to hear. He says one thing, does another, all the time.
  12. I know that. My point is that the reimbursement rates for doctors in the "public" portion will presumably be lower than the market-clearing private rates. Thanks. I see, on a daily basis, the "miracles of modern medicine" with my son, and a few others I'm very close to. While I'm grateful for the benefits (in my case employer-funded insurance) I understand that someone (in my case me, through a reduced salary) is paying.
  13. The loss is a more fundamental development. Jews have been Liberals/Democrats almost reflexively since they emigrated to Canada/United States. This is the equivalent of the labor unions supporting the CPC en masse, and ditching the NDP.
  14. But how would one ensure that any reasonable level of care could be obtained in the (presumably less lucrative for doctors) publicly funded portion of the system? I believe the underlying problem for both systems is that medical advances have created unaffordable opportunities for saving and enhancing life, such that no amount of money will be sufficient. I'm not sure there is a solution.
  15. Did he have reason to know at the time what was up?
  16. Argus, you make good points. Not that many people want to address them.
  17. Jdobin, thanks for starting topic. The New York Sun (link) just ran an editorial on the subject. I was going to start this as a thread anyway, and ask for comments. Not being Canadian, I cannot hope to gauge the accuracy of the editorial. In general, I am leery of anything being "free" and unlimited, since I do not believe that anything is truly "free" or unlimited. Also, on a personal note, one of my son's doctors is a Jew from Winnipeg. He pointed out that in the absence of any real language or cultural barrier, there is little keeping a Canadian doctor in other than family or local ties.
  18. No. Funding our "democracy" is. Funny how we conveniently use "democracy" to wield power and forget about it when it does not suit us, is it not? There's a simple answer. People should be free to donate to campaigns. Or not donate. There's no reason for the government to prop up a failing party. Neither the Bloc nor the NDP would attract contributions since they are parties doomed never to govern. Then why have them?
  19. The ignorance on these forums is incredible. You act like mob bosses when their houses get robbed. You start (escalate) "whacking" people without ever asking yourselves how all that nice stuff got into your house in the first place. Tell me, if terrorism is your bag where did you get the initial idea that terrorism is the correct way to go about whatever your group is trying to impress on world societies? The latest fad romanticized by Western self-haters. Before it was Marx, then global warming, now terror.
  20. Your post was fine until the point that you decided, for no reason, to bring Harper into it.
  21. You provided no reference to the story, so it is impossible for me to have any context on the issue. Can you please provide a link to the story? Correct. A proof is a proof, as a great leader recently said.
  22. People in Quebec (including separatists) pay federal taxes like anyone else. They are entitled to receive services from the federal government. Are you suggesting that separatists not use Canadian airports because the federal government funds airports? Is funding separatists a "service" the majority of Canadians would want to pay for? Or for that matter official bilingualism? The US spent a fortune in the Civil War, both in lives and money, holding the country together. Canadians are spending a fortune tearing a great nation apart.
  23. And in your mind that's a good thing?
  24. The problem is that the benefits of free trade are diffuse and small to individual homebuyers. The benefits of protection are huge to the plutocrats who feed on "welfare for the rich". Fighting our own battles (yes, I am a Yank) is harder than you realize. Thanks for your appreciation of the plight of the average American trying to make ends meet.
  25. The ignorance on these forums is incredible. You act like mob bosses when their houses get robbed. You start (escalate) "whacking" people without ever asking yourselves how all that nice stuff got into your house in the first place. Your ignorance is appalling. The choices are to subject everyone to burdensome searches, so that travel, whether by air, train or ship becomes impossibly burdensome and expensive, or to find some way to reduce the number of people inconvenienced. By the way, I thought most "liberals" prefer mass transit to the private automobile. In the US, if someone has to arrive at the airport 3 hours prior to a one-hour flight from New York City to Boston or Washington (4 or 5 hour drives, respectively) more people will take to the highways. Is that really what you want? My point simply is that if a community learns that it is being targeted because of quite valid suspicions, they will take steps to end the suspicion.
