  1. Correct me if I'm wrong but the group has always effectively been a Cuddy-Keelor vehicle. The other musicians such as Packwood and even Egan were more or less peripheral.
  2. Blue Rodeo's Bob Egan leaving band to work at Kitchener Public Library Since 2002, Blue Rodeo has become one of my favorite groups. Ironically the group got its start in New York City when Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor , as expat Canadians, played regularly in New York City clubs. As a result of those roots they return fairly regularly to play in New York, either as Blue Rodeo or Jim Cuddy playing in a solo role. I rarely miss an opportunity to see them perform.
  3. I personally think the problem is a tribal culture, not an Islamic problem.
  4. So you don't think you would have enjoyed Woodstock?
  5. Israel never gets any message. They just keep going on and on like that Duracell battery rabbit, and they keep crying and keep trying to tell us all just how hard done by they are. Israel will always be the victim. Why is it that the western media never says a word about the wall that Israel put up? What message do you wish to deliver? That Israel should go out of business as a Jewish state? That it's time for Judaism to call it quits? For both not bloody likely.
  6. My OP didn't even mention religion. It referred to "cultural exotica" without even naming the culture. It didn't have to... Why not? Do you enjoy putting words into peoples' mouths or thoughts into peoples' brains? You mentioned and demonized Islam. I didn't.
  7. I'm an American and I "get them." I wanted to play "New Orleans is Sinking" 11 years ago, almost to this date on the radio and wasn't allowed to. A lady named Katrina objected.
  8. Perhaps we adopt the rule that a subforum could be in another language where "there is a significant demand for communications with and services from that office in such language."
  9. I don't know whether a psychologist or psychiatrist would help Amal Hicham more.
  10. Even in the U.S. this real life tragedy affecting the Tragically Hip is making news Gord Downie, Frontman for the Tragically Hip, in His Final Act. While I have never seen them perform I have a good portion of their music.Along with Canadian artists Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young and Blue Rodeo, they take up a good portion of my iPhone. I will miss them. Sometimes, the Billy Joel lyric and song title "Only the Good Die Young" applies. JBG

  12. I will admit that when my older son was about a month old I had the cashier at the grocery store weigh him by putting him on the conveyor. They said they couldn't calculate a price, since red heads are more expensive in my neck of the woods.
  13. Girl, six, is forced to marry 55-year-old man in exchange for a GOAT being given to her father in Afghanistan* | Daily Mail Online This article details an interesting piece of cultural exotica; a father traded his six year old daughter for a goat. One wonders, was the goat to be used for agricultural or other purposes? Goats can be good for milk, for slaughter, for companionship or as pets. In local culture they are probably a very versatile animal. I'll admit this thread is a bit lighter than my normal fare.
  14. Are these people disgusted at the way Turkey treats Cyprus/ Or the way the Ottoman Empire treated Armenians? Or the way Tibetians are treated by China? I am suspicious when the moral high horse is reserved for Jews.
  15. The knfings, car rammings, terror tunnels, missile attacks? The kidnappings maybe?
  16. Maybe the Arabs should think about making peace?
  17. Agreed...Divisiveness is what is fueling the debate here and some commentaries are not meant to get to solution but just generalising one side of the argument. If those incidents didn't happen I agree with both of you. Did they happen?
  18. These two stories contrast different value systems and different cultures. Maybe they're both equally valid. I just don't know. In the first story, Facebook Friendship Saves an Afghan Babys Life a combination of Facebook friendships between an Afghan family whose baby son faced a life-threatening congenital heart problem and an Israeli helped the baby find life saving surgery in Israel (by way of Toronto). Noteworthy is the fear of "backlash" if the name of the family was publicized: Elsewhere different cultural values play out, in more deadly fashion: Clash of Values Emerges After Afghan Child Bride Burns to Death I would love the liberals to explain how supporting womans' or GLBTQ rights goes with supporting Arab or Palestinian causes. I just don't understand. .
  19. Have the "Palestinians" ever given Israel a safe option to stop fighting?
  20. Done and thanks, assuming you're right on the spelling.
  21. I like fixed terms but they can only work when there is a majority government. I wonder if the loss of a referendum such as Brexit or Charlottetown (Meech Lake was not a referendum) could be construed as a confidence vote, since it arises under unwritten portions of constitutions.
