  1. Good thing we didn't have his attitude in 1812 and ww1. Apparently he thinks we don't have allies and we fight cohesively with them
  2. And we haven't seen gdp growth like that ever since!
  3. All right you show me where in the constitution an organization has the right to collect deductions from workers pay checks and force all workers at the job to join said organization no matter if they want to or not.
  4. But the less the govt interferes with taxes and regulations, the more growth and prosperity there is
  5. The closest we have was during the industrial revolution and in the usa from the end of the civil war to the turn of the century. Also greatest period of economic growth
  6. Except the govt gave those unions special rights and privelages to tamper with the market themselves. An impartial market would have seen those union workers canned long ago. If the govt can interfere one way, it can another.
  7. Its like anything involving equipment you have to upgrade your iron from time to time. For example I'm digging ditches right now, last year I had a 6 yard scraper. It did the job, but there was something better. Now I have a 17 yard scraper and my ditches get dug faster, smoother, and the potholes get right full of fill. It was expensive but well worth it.
  8. The new deal was awful and prolonged the depression. All that came out of it was a ton of debt
  9. Hey they all look good after 2 am
  10. Same crap different pile. Fdr tried to prop up prices instead of letting them fall thus making the depression worse.
  11. Given current demands and labor costs, that's a yes. The USSR had full employment and guaranteed income yet many people waited in breadlines. The jobs have to be useful which means there has to be real demand, you can't pull demand out of your backside
  12. No they don't, they are free to buy products and services or they can choose not to. The 1% with their products and services give the 99% satisfaction of use of said products, in exchange they get paid for it. BIll Gates helped found windows which helps business's/people with efficiency, makes their lives easier etc., in return bill gates gets paid. Most of the time that 1% hires some of the 99% to help them produce more that customers want and as a result pay those "99%" a wage that the market allows.
  13. No it wouldn't, the employment has to be useful to society and produce something that we benefit. So we should have everyone employed in shipyards building massive warships and every 10 years all the countries of the world drag them out to the middle of the ocean, evacuate their crews and proceed to scuttle them? Everybody has a job right??? SHould we be having all the people dig holes and the next day fill them in as well?
  14. Have a good watch at the video... THe 1% took risks, works hard, and creates wealth, that's why they have it. It's not voodoo or magic, it's just good old ingenuity and hard work. You guys want to take the incentive away from doing all of that, as a result everyone will be poorer. "Why should I work for 30 cents on the dollar?"
  15. And how would you know what most of the subject matter is of e campaigns? Do you live there? I see the media reporting on the religious part because it's controversial and gets people watching. And maybe you pick that out when watching the media because you may have a problem with religious people running for office. I see the candidates all taking pot shots at Obama, Cain has a plan, Romney is disciplined, Paul is well Paul, and the others are throwing out rhetoric and statements without substance. And how are those candidates polling numbers doing? People want ideas, not rhetoric. Cain is polling high because he has a legit plan. No it was still dumb because it hasn't bumped up newt's polling numbers. Cain took all of perry and bachmanns voters with his plan. Why is perry all of a sudden rolling out a plan? Newt is wasting his time playing the religious card. As for your war on Christians, if Christian kids got the same kind of perks that kids of other religions get in say Toronto, people would be outraged and roll out the pushing of religion bus. How would you feel if a church decided to buy advertising on all the city buses saying praise Jesus? An athiest group got to do it? Why should one group get to push their beliefs free of scorn of society while another gets shamed? Lets see some consistency here. You have to remember that a significant portion of the USA is christian and believes very strongly in that, don't they get a say?
  16. Exactly, why would a crook register a gun they bought out of the back of a van. If anything the registry could create a complacency moral hazard.
  17. I know that, he USA has a legit claim, but as far as anything goes, you have to pay to play. I know it's a political nightmare in Canada, but we have to ask ourselves, how much is that claim in the arctic worth? It could be very expensive for us to let a treasure trove slip throu our fingers, and then as smallc puts it the other uses for a nuke sub. It's prepping for the unknown...
  18. Do I have time to come up with a novel idea, do I want to take the risk and undergo extremely rapid business expansion that may be extremely risky, do I want to sacrifice all my time chasing after a magic billion? Some guys do and that's why they're billionaires, they did what was necessary. That's the beauty of a capitalist society, free to succeed and free to fail. Smart people recovered by losing their jobs to technology ny entrepreneurship, finding another job, or working a job related to the new technology.
  19. That's only a part of it, there is always the unknown to deal with and being as best prepared to deal with it. How else do you propose to enforce claims to the arctic ocean which is froze most of the time... The USA has a legit claim up there because you guys can enforce said claim.
  20. So you don't think there are any oil reserves in the arctic? I don't think those Inuit in their little boats can go where the continental shelf is... And then there is dealing with a potential nutjob's navy...
  21. If having a nuke sub or two up in the arctic keeps the Russians from popping oil derricks on our continental shelf without paying us royalties, then that's a solid return on investment.
  22. Except entitlement programs eat up most of the USA budget. Freedom ain't cheap and we in the west get to enjoy our lifestyle by winning two world wars and the cold war. Then there is the potential nut bar dictator going off that needs to be dealt with. Going for the Godwin award here but, after ww2, the tolerance for nut bar dictators with a sizable military capable of expansion is next to zero. We won't make that mistake again. Govts main role is to provide an environment for economic activity and production take place, part of that is funding the military which helps protect and enforce said environment.
  23. I think nuke subs would be great and do make sense for us, I don't know if it would be politically possible to get some. It would be nice to play under the ice for a long period of time and since Canada is wanting to play a deny role in the arctic, nuke subs are perfect for denying space.
  24. The public will be upset with potential deficit spending ( good on Martin, manning, and Harper for pushing fiscal responsibility) and then there is the obscene cost of Medicare and pensions coming up for the retired baby boomers.
  25. I don't think we can afford them yet. Maybe after next election if the Tories win. The oil sands would have to be rolling and we'd need a manufacturing boom
