Why are the Conservatives Killing the Wheat Board?
blueblood replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yah but the soybeans are used for that and due to subsidies it is cheap cheap cheap -
So the pre-requisite to having your house burned down is having pissed off neighbours. Or do the neighbours have to be pissed off about you breaking the law? If they have to be pissed about you breaking the law, then is it not necessary to have it proven that you're breaking the law? We have something setup for this, it's called the courts. There's no reason to allow vigilantes. If we're relating me to what happened in Grand Manan, it was set in stone that the law was broken and the cops had their hands tied, on comes the mob. Why are you so scared about justice being served? It's not like the townspeople do this on a regular basis, the law wasn't going to solve the problem, they did and crack dealers got what was coming to them. If this is what it takes to shut down crack houses, townspeople taking and administering justice swiftly, fairly, and harshly then I welcome it. What makes an appointed judges opinion and judgement matter more than townspeople? I consider both their minds equal. I wonder if the cops are still investigating the guys for being crack dealers...

Why are the Conservatives Killing the Wheat Board?

I agree on The National Farmers Union site that government help for farmers to get into more diversified areas might be a solution. It seems though for every area that farmer might find profitable that some government tries to subsidize it and floods the market with supply. It seems to only help corporations though as they have guaranteed cheap supplies. Which is why I believe that there needs to be a program which gives farmers royalties like the recording/entertainment industry and with Monsanto on GM canola, with that given income (which in my opinion is deserved) they can afford to shut down and help put the industry back into synch (which would require CPC/NDP party type discipline) -

Subsidies for farmers to continue to supply profitable corporations is what is keeping farmers poor and corporations rich. Thats true on the input side, but what about the other side... -
The cops had a problem, it's called due process which means all sorts of loopholes and hoops, and it takes the teeth out of the police force. There was much more than suspicion on the part of the community, also cops also arrest people on suspision, and it's up to the cops to prove their decision on suspicion in court, thats what they are there for. This is not the Salem witch trials here, the townspeople made a decision to go through with this based on their situation and it resulted in a crack house disappearing, BRAVO!!! So, if you were arrested and for one reason or another got off because the cops didn't follow due process (pick any example: searched without a warrant, didn't allow access to a lawyer, was not informed of being under arrest, etc..), do you feel it's ok for your neighbours to come and burn your house down? Oh boy, the old how would you like it if you were a criminal routine, the lefty trump card... I am not a criminal so it's a pretty messed up question. of course I don't WANT my house burned down, nobody does that's why I obey the law and don't grow crack in it. If in your hypothetical situation that did happen, I am always not going to WANT my house burned down but if the neighbours are that pissed about it and burned it down I'm shit out of luck. that's their perogative, and that's why I follow the law and don't piss off the neighbours so bad stuff doesn't happen to me. It's with that attitude that our prison system is a JOKE, and you can bet your ass if I was homeless I'd be committing some crimes, a free gym and TV and a warm place to stay with regular meals sure beats living on the streets.

How do we fix Canada's Healthcare crisis?
blueblood replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sorry, I agree with your premise - but this is not a good theory. There will always be people who are 'poor'. One only needs to look at the ANY stalinist state to see this. You cannot help those who refuse to help themselves EVEN if you force them. That is human nature and is the epitomy of 'freedom'. I'm not saying force them, there are some that just don't have the opportunity and they should at least get that. I'll bet a person living in squalor would take a job as a leasehand for around 20 bucks an hour to sweep and paint. -

How do we fix Canada's Healthcare crisis?
blueblood replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
When the unemployment rate drops to about 1-2% then yah, but how about the homeless people and those on reserves, get them to alberta pronto!!! I can't figure out if you agree or disagree ? You do know that 1-2% unemployment is impossible to achieve? Homeless people and those on reserves...what does that mean? Listen to dobbin....he knows. So those homeless people and people on reserves have to be screwed out of employment so Sanjay from pakistan can have his day?, no! Why should they be poor? Get those guys who are poor and don't have the opportunity out there working so they aren't a drain on social services, maybe the rate will drop to 4% with that I don't know, those reserves are a big problem, we cannot afford as a society to have an out of the way reserve like Kasechewan, where they don't contribute much to society and take tax dollars get them working and their poverty disappears. Ahh, now I get it. Its the immigrants (sanjay from Pakistan) fault for having the initiative to get his butt out the door and find a job, but homeless people and those on reserves should have job opportunities brought to them. So, should we wait for Oprah or Dr.Phil show to be over before we knock on the door and ask them if they will work? As for reserves, dont muddy the message. Save that one for another post. There are jobs begging to be filled in Alberta , but they can't find people to fill them. Well , except for Sanjay who might even work two jobs. Against a foreigner, you bet, it's cheaper on the social system to give them a job than dole out cheques for doing nothing, sorry but i think our citizens deserve the first priority over the immigrants. the less people on social assistance the better and if that means shutting the door then great. Those jobs in Alberta can be filled by the poor and those living on reserves, you can bet your ass they'd rather work than live in squalor. Jeez, with all of that tax money they'd be contributing instead of receiving maybe our medical system can get some help and our infrastructure will be able to keep up with economic growth, but yah lets flood the country and have things plugged up like they are now Wishful thinking. If all immigrants suddenly disappeared, not a thing would change on reserves. If people on reserves really wanted jobs, they would move where the jobs are. The jobs won't move to the reserves. They can't even afford to move, they live in third world conditions, there is no excuse for that here, they need help getting to the jobs and they get the jobs before immigrants -

I can't disagree that the Wheat Board should have been all Canada. However, it was farmer wanted back in 1935 and it has remained to this day. Soy beans is another ones of the highly subsidized crops from the U.S. Farmers seem to really get screwed by the European and American fight in agriculture. It's not the Europeans and American subsidies, it's something else, and it's here -

The farmers of the west wanted the Wheat Board for themselves. Do you have evidence that wheat farmers in the east get better prices? As for canola's price, it is affected by the subsidies that the American corn oil industry gets. I will say again I support the board, but those guys out east should fall into it as well, it's a double standard, it's the CANADIAN wheat board, why should a guy out west go to Jail for selling his grain on the open market while some guy from Ontario or Quebec won't?, that's crap and you know it. I don't know if the guys east get better prices, maybe they do maybe they don't, do you have evidence they don't? Canola's price is also affected by the Asian market, tariffs from other countries, those rat bastards from europe not importing canola due to GM fears, and the South Americans plus Eastern Europe getting their Ag sector online, i'd say Soybeans affect Canola the most. -

The ratio doesn't stay the same though. Economists and past experience tells us that costs go up faster than wages in low unemployment situations. If you have evidence to the contrary, please let me know. I know that Alberta has a shortage of police. Calgary is in such dire need that they recruiting in Britain. You think they should go after the 3% who don't have jobs and make them police? If there is some of he 3% that are qualified, but for some reason don't have the opportunity to apply for various reasons then Hell Yeah. -

Why are the Conservatives Killing the Wheat Board?
blueblood replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Only 5% of wheat and barley are farmed east of Manitoba. They usually have other crops rather than full grain farms. The Wheat Board has lots of information on all of this on their site. Canola is a Canadian invention. Canadian Oil Low Acid. The rest of the world doesn't grow it like Canada and the U.S. does. There is huge demand for it, especially in the United States. The prairie provinces grow most of it; North Dakota grows most for the U.S. The price for canola is set in Winnipeg by the Commodity Exchange. Canola is a speciality crop that Canada pretty much has a lock on. It doesn't need a marketer for it like wheat and barley do. Wheat and barley in the U.S. are subsidized and protected through the nose. Hey it's still 5%, why should they be exempt, it's still BS. Too bad canola gets owned by soy beans and other vegetable oils when we export it, go biodiesel and nexera cooking oil. Canola has the potential of going around 10 bucks a bushel and has gone there, but due to competitions from other oils and other factors it went to a low of around 5 bucks or less and is around the middle of those two numbers now. -

Most economists say when employment levels fall to 1%, you start getting inflation. You already see it in Alberta. Wages continue to go up, then costs start going up. If the ratio stays the same (costs go up same as wages), then there shouldn't be any problem just more people working, more wealth, etc. -

You think you can make it without the Board? I support the Board, but playing devil's advocate, if the guys out east can make it why can't he?, plus my canola doesn't go through the board... -

"We made a promise to have a free vote on this issue; we kept that promise, and obviously the vote was decisive and obviously we'll accept the democratic result of the people's representatives," Harper said Thursday following the vote. "I don't see reopening this question in the future." Maybe not. Well he didn't open the abortion can of worms, so maybe it really won't be reopened -
When Dion whips Harper in the next election.....
blueblood replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Fine, I wasn't sure. However, the gov't has an obligation to see that health care workers meet our standards, why on earth would any gov't allow a foreign doctor to practice without the proper training and licensing. Unless of course you are suggesting we lower our standards to accommodate them. The first patient to have a problem would be suing the gov't for allowing it to happen. Heck, if you feel that way why have any kind of standard or licensing at all, maybe I'll just put out a shingle and call myself a doctor, buy a few tools and some tonic water and we'll be back to the good old days. I never said that foreign doctors should not be licenced. I said that our health-care system and the medical associations do not want them to become licenced and get the proper training. They don't want a sufficient number of Canadian graduates to become licenced and get the proper training either. The Americans allow foreign doctors (Canadians included) to become licenced and get the proper training, which is why American patients get treated and we wait in lines. If those foreign doctors are good enough to treat Americans, why aren't they good enough to treat Canadians? Do we need some sort of special care that Americans don't need? Perhaps if the system and medical associations was whipped like Harper's and Layton's caucus we wouldn't have a problem... -
Dion vs. Harper - Canada's Future?
blueblood replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Assuming that Dion doesn't win a minority government and Harper does, do you really think CPC will keep Harper? Adscam provided CPC with their best ever shot of forming a majority government and if the best they can do is get yet another minority government next time, I anticipate CPC will start looking for a new leader. A Conservative who is not a so-con like Harper would actually stand a chance of forming a majority government. Jim Prentice perhaps? Danny Williams!! -

Well I'm happy a fresh off the farm farmer won, hopefully he does a good job and brings true country values and fiscal responsibility, I hope he doesn't blow it making us farmers look bad. I also hope he's not blowing smoke about engaging harper to please everyone. As for the left vs. right argument, someone took a shot at so-cons, i merely responded back... and went too far. So back on track, go Stelmach, make the ag community proud. -

I'm talking about small l liberals, not the party. No, they like to force pot on everyone and flood the MSM with it, using the show the Simpsons as a bell weather for society that proves the point. Umm why should someone have their hand forced to marry gay couples when they are morally objected to it, lots of things get turned down on this as its fair, what about the state agent's right to an opinion and his beliefs, btw there will be another state agent more than happy to marry them. Just to clarify i don't care about SSM, i care about people's hands being forced. Well yeah, I think this whole natural governign party of Canada is harmful to not only the Liberals but political improvement as a whole. But I am not about to justify violating other peoples rights to happiness and liberty just because I think most politicians are corrupt and injust. Because if we started to do that, then we become what we hate. And honestly, I don't want to walk around hating myself. It is liberal minded people that made the revolving door justice system complete with satellite TV in jail, it's come to the point where it would make sense for a bum to go to jail because he gets a warm place to stay, food everyday, TV, a job, and a sense of belonging, how's he getting punished? He's getting a free ride.
