  1. Which is evidence of nothing. OF COURSE most of the complaints will be on race, colour, ethnic origin or creed. Of course I don’t have to explain to you why they put the race, color, creed in the Charter. People are systemically discriminated against. They put laws in place which we hope will deterred such practices as racism. Notice I said deterred – it happens so admit it. Reports of complaints have to be taken seriously. When the numbers are reported independent of each other it is even more concerns. You just don’t get it, those fired senior excutives from coca cola also didn’t get it – yes, a biggest pay out yet in history because of complains of discrimination. I mean I have one of those excutives working with me and usually ask to clarify the practice of discrimination – they had complaints galore among other covert racist practices, if they had tended to the complains seriously in hindsight maybe the courts could have ordered an employment decree.
  2. ok if you see any good lines from our Mapleleaf posters give them some credits - post it here!! alas pls no bashing though On Justice: Believe nothing against another but upon good authority: Nor report what may hurt another, unless it be a greater hurt to others to conceal it Penn
  3. God knows you won't find Irishmen stereotyped, right, or conservatives, or religious people? Sterotyping is merely evidence of the kind of media we have, not racism. you are only addressing portrayals of stereotyping. look it, empowered groups do not need to address negative images about themselves after all as a group they have enough control over the representations of themselves. Talk about ethnocentrism here. anyway, i agree stereotyping is harmless. there is a BUT though, when you have preconceived ideas about people, logically, we put them into "this" or "that" group and so using the metal images we can begin to practice discrimination e.g. aboriginal peoples are disposed of their land because of the images of being cannibals or brutes for the dominant group any negative image usually gets absorbed. Why? because they have the resources to neutralise it. What I mean is that if you have privilege you have an automatic protective cover. and usually we want other striving groups trying to assimilate with the dominant group. so the perception of this group is always going to be, well, good. For the people we wish to discriminate - here is how it is done e.g. 1) try some jokes, are demeaning, for example Q: why black people like basketball? A: because it involves running, shooting and stealing did you see how simplistic this joke is, and no intentional malice, but it is demeaning because of the stereotyping of blacks as athletes, victims, vixens, and comics Ok use the images and put it into daily news perspective, any recent shootings. conclusion, more violence within the black community my answer to you now, is that stereotyping is NOT an error in perception it is more like social control oh man, you wrote a lot there Argus, I have to sign off here but will continue later ....
  4. Read the entire report here http://www.pch.gc.ca/progs/multi/wcar/advi...-action_e.shtml
  5. isn't knives covered under the criminal code already, with heights etc. mind you I would not mind forgoing the household usage of knives and go in favor of a license what it means to me is that both males and females would have the opportunity to a license to operate the knives in the kitchen for cooking purposes. and we can predict based on the males yearning to own and operate tools they are most likely to get registered. ideally women can look forward to having a better selection of males based on their license.
  6. how about: I know that this government doesn't like to listen to Vancouver's mayor, so let me quote the mayor of Victoria instead j.kwan I know that the government doesn't have to agree with the opposition or listen to the opposition, politely or otherwise, or even show up. I know that they can heckle and they can scream and they can abuse. They have done so, as it is the tradition of this House oftentimes — for that is the theatre perhaps. That's why I think we sit two sword-lengths away
  7. The challenge now is to practice politics as the art of making what appears to be impossible, possible. Hillary Rodham Clinton Liberty means responsibility. That's why most men dread it. George Bernard Shaw A fool is someone who is ashamed to change his mind and his politics. RB
  8. the Indians culture never left them, and they want their life back. I mean also look at it this way they equate what they knew as equal 1) life equal with earth 2) culture equal with resources 3) indians equal with canada the "white man" set out to destroy their life and earth, their culture and their resources, and uproot their indianess now through the lenses they are shifting backwards to a new beginning 3 - 2- 1
  9. Yeah, I admit the pdf files take a long time to load – so I don’t ever try for the link - I usually take the summary with the cache or html link The difficulty in deciding about an ad hominem fallacy is whether the piece of reasoning such as your irrelevant personal attack is well relevant - we are talking about racism I didn't make a personal attack. your literary skills are so poor I wanted to know if they were a general reflection on your lack of education and intellect, or arose because you were operating in a second language. ok, this is all rubbish, and does not belong with the discussion – the reason why I took you seriously the second time you mentioned about language is that I had already explained about the language and racism first time around, there are all sorts of hard symbolism attached to racism. it is a sensitive subject. see below posted a couple days back those are the very questions that folks practice in order to identify place of origin so i question your motive and what purpose the identification of language would serve you in this forum. mind you i took note of your criticism, not that it will help me with my education - news: i do excellent , however it might help me stay focus to target an audience understanding instead of promotion of creative writing so thank you ok does not belong in the forum either unless you are rather too liberal
  10. Well it wasn’t by chance I selected Frances Henry article in racial profiling; I support what she says with the rest of the writers in discourse http://www.yorku.ca/fhenry/backgrounds.htm The difficulty in deciding about an ad hominem fallacy is whether the piece of reasoning such as your irrelevant personal attack is well relevant - we are talking about racism But here is some information in the a first language i know, only Green Day lyrics says it better than I “fuck off and die”
  11. Look it before we can engage in some discussion about racism you have to acknowledge it exist. I don’t have the time come up with my own write-ups so here are other people’s work quote: racism takes many forms, although it is usually understood in the individual sense. Essentially there are three main forms, individual racism, systemic racism and cultural racism (Henry, Tator, Mattis & Rees,1995). Individual racism manifests itself in individual's attitudes and behaviours, and is the easiest type to identify. Systemic racism consists of the policies and practices of organizations, which directly or indirectly operate to sustain the advantages of peoples of certain "social races". This type of racism is more difficult to address because it is implicit in the policies of organizations and often unconscious. Cultural racism is the basis of both other forms of racism, as it is the value system which is embedded in society which supports and allows discriminatory actions based on perceptions of racial difference, cultural superiority and inferiority.” unquote below are some papers on racism FYI I gave you historical examples of all of those racism regarding the aboriginals, Chinese, Japanese, blacks, Jews – which you reject because some of your common sense and mostly denial, and alluding that the problems are of economics - well the racism is also embedded in economics but proceeding with common sense, here is a simple economy 100 people operating with one (1) service industry = policing Whites = 45 people Blacks & others = 55 The police services employ 45 whites to manage 55 blacks and others. Can you share some of the conclusion you draw? Oh, OK real statistics now from the police Racialized recruits out of total number of Police Officers Hired (1998 data) Toronto _________________ 371 of 5,262 – 7% racial rep. Montreal _________________97 of 4,062 – 2% Vancouver _______________73 of 1,084 – 6% Victoria _________________73 of 1,084 – figure the % for the rest Calgary _________________51 of 1,250 Edmonton _______________64 of 1,150 Regina _________________13 of 319 Saskatoon________________6 of 387 Winnipeg ________________40 of 1,176 Halifax _________________15 of 403 Peel Regional (Ontario) _____ 81 of 1,144 The firefighters should be around the same numbers. For women its about gender stereotyping, and thats a shame, because when we look at lots of the sexual harassment cases, and women leaving the services in number and parallel the experience to other male dominated professions such as: construction engineering field, it tells of an uncompromising and unfriendly working environment for women, NOTE: I didn’t say women cannot do the job check Deloitte & Touché and hear what the CEO had to say about women. For the police, who pride themselves as power (see facts about RACISM AND POLICING RACISM AND POLICINGand the firefighter who "plays" on the hero worship, it is a difficult fit for a woman. When the women leaves, oh well we knew she could not manage anyway. These men folks make it unbearable for female entry and your bits of common sense tells me that we not just only promote what is DESCRIMINATION and ideal of professions but you also set out to exacerbate the problem. here are some reading on racism 1) Systemic Racism in employment in Canada: Diagnosing Systemic Racism in Organizational Culture Carol Agocs, Department of Political Science, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario and Harish Jain Michael G. DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario SYSTEMIC RACISM IN EMPLOYMENT IN CANADA 2) Facing hate in Canada FACING HATE IN CANADA 3) Racial Profiling RACIAL PROFILING sorry i am quoting a whole bunch of people but i did not have the time to reply
  12. before the police and fire services entertain and proceed with hirings have a standardised fitness test among other testing. even following your own example, you suggested "not even a particularly large one" person was able to show capacity for strength well nevermind against who. the height requirements were remove from application forms, and is monitored by human rights because there is no justifiable reason if a person have the capacity and competency to do a good job. and statistics have shown that a good chuck of the segments of the population are not selected for this very reason. furthermore, if you have one race running the entire police and fire services as you seem to suggest, how will they be able to managed say city of 55% diverse population. its no wonder that 80% of the people in Winnipeg jail house are aboriginals. you are going against the principles of being liberal - means having equal access, a fair starting point, same rights, and a fair outcome. i mean if you have a height requirement it already not a fair start, like people can't work on how to grow and return the following year to reapply, they are just completely excluded. ok i didn't mention other races or culture because the thread started out with the aboriginals but i sure can make a case for some parallel racism in Toronto, a vibrant and racially heterogeneous cosmopolitan with explicit racial confrontation. so now i question the reason why there are discrepancies between the mainstream and ethnic groups. like why are all the minority groups doing so poorly? and if you didn't figure it, well here is the reasons, domination over social, economic and political power by others. mind you the mainstream folks will argue in favor of “positive discrimination” since through their practices, they can retain their privileges and look forward to the reproduction of those privileges such as taking care of one another but here is an example of what i mean: a black newspaper report driving a Mercedes at 9pm, stopped by the police for no reason at all. critical examination now, after we have put some preconceived notions of other people into place, we embedded in the mainstream cultural system some believes, and values about "differentness" base on color, language, origin gender etc, and put descrimination into practice. because we have managed to put each different person into some construction, either this group or that group, it is highly unlikely that a black person would have enough wealth to purchase a high end car. after all we dominate over these black folks. you seem to know about economics, so you must know that you have to give up something in order to make a gain, and generally no-one want to give up their share of power. so it only seem natural that this black person is up to some tricks. maybe you have to preconceived notions about blacks. here are some of those notions, Carl James, a black professor had a confrontation with a white student, who was dismayed at her first class to see a black teacher, worst he had a Caribbean accent, she felt humiliated that a poor, uneducated black people was going to teach her. she didn't recant her objections but was shocked to learn that this professor had a PhD in sociology. appreciate that magnitude and scope of this racism from people's experiences, the reinforcement of the statistics that ethnic groups are economically poor, and enlighten yourself as to reasons why this is happening?
  13. sorry about that and you are right it is difficult case to find, so here is the court case of 2 aboriginals - the outcome was fair in my opinion and there is a bit more on systemic racism http://www.canlii.org/ab/cas/abqb/2000/200...000abqb450.html regarding the police, they of course had height, weight requirements. this is very mainstream and suitable for north american whites and until recently did not change the policies, so they did not keep with change policies as the demographics changed, whether intentionally who knows. i mean asians, middle-easterns are biologically shorter folks so an entire population of chinese for example cannot become a police - this is systemic racism. only now the police are trying to reflect the diverse population and it is a numbers game because they refused entry to begin base on systems in place. when the external/internal environment is surveyed the under-representation tells the story, and the over-representations the other side of the story. there are more subtleties about hiring 2 chinese all of a sudden, they seem to multiply in an instance and milding about all over the place the only thing i see we might agree on is the logic of economics, and red-tape... lots... its different though i apologise that i didn't address the entire post, i would like to and will soon goodnight
  14. mostly gone are the days of blatant racism as slavery, red-necked racism, or separation of Blacks, Jews, Chinese etc in canada So you won’t find blatant racism in my writings sadly because racism is deeply embedded in our institutional systems Here is an example of how you read into what I write Citation: R. v. Auger, 2000 ABQB 450 Quote [60] It is clear from the reasons in Gladue that the Supreme Court of Canada is of the view that a statistical comparison of the raw data relating to the percentage of aboriginals in jail populations as compared to the percentage of aboriginals in the ordinary population somehow proves a broad, systemic societal problem and widespread racism which has translated into systemic discrimination against aboriginals by the criminal justice system and that this in turn ultimately resulted in excessive imprisonment of aboriginals. Accordingly, it views s. 718.2(e) as an attempt, in part, to redress this problem: Unquote The water problem is read the same way. And all the other examples that I have given, yes - plus their land, their culture There are many folks who would like to say to minorities and aboriginal that the past is history, get over it, and get on. But you also fail to recognise that the white practices of preference never get addressed and do not get changed. The targeted groups are reminded of a history everyday, only now you are not blatant, and verbal, or have the personal fits of telling people where to sit. The difficulty with today’s racism is that it had manifested itself into our everyday practices, and the value system and hence a problem to identify let alone control I mean racism have become rather sophisticated -and progress to a level where racism is an ideology, -and expressed at this intersection: majority/minority, -and perpetuated by vested interests -and well it has the roots in history. Ok I will tell you how to watch out for the “new faces of racism”, -well it could be unconscious or preconceived notions about others, -believes about others while withholding equal treatment of the inferior groups, -we already know the color component er no not color blind, -creation of adverse effect on study, work and well being, I will give an example what I mean with the study work well being and you can figure how the others operate. firstly aboriginal people are not represented in school for certain programs, therefore and entire sector of job market is a forgo for them, hence guess about their well being. So here you are denying and using non-evaluative meanings and dismissal, dismissal, dismissal. I don’t mean to be critical this time around but your response shows yet how racism as discrimination is inevitable and acceptable and perhaps necessary.
  15. argus i believe you are going have to come up with your own explanation of what constitutes racism and a definition of racism the natives can habor much resentment against the whites but they do not have ECONOMIC POWER to descrimiate against the whites, furthermore non of the minority groups is able to descrimiate against the whites, so if you are the same, consider that you are born into some advantageous position for just being the same. i don't know how you can ignore the history but ok important information requirement: year of birth please? Here is a 1990 report of confrontation between Quebec police, the canadian army and kanienkehaka of kanesatake over the pines cemetery with gunfire and death of officer lemay. The army was brought in with tanks and bulldozers, and besiege the people of pines for 78 days. You think it was an a just by the way wake-up call that prompted the Royal Commission to produce 3,000 pages 1996. Maybe they indians were happy people with no bigger issues. Ok I won’t talk more about dudley george shooting and standoff of Camp Ipperwash 1995 Who is an Indian – here is a good one. The government decides even now, 2001 census less than a million people are indians, but wait there is also non-indians, if you lived in a remote area during the government registration, they could not get to you – hello you are a non-indian. The inuit of canadian arctic has never fallen under the indian act so until 1975, is that year good enough the james bay agreement give them some status. Walkerton now, and the water systems – a public scandal, a public inquiry, free distribution of water and a overhaul of the water delivery system Yellowquill now, and the water systems – the first nations have been boiling water for 5 years now. its reservoir is filled with run-off from nearby farms. End this report. I don’t feel like writing more, but here is the last one if you were born in 1990, following a 6 year investigation the UN found Canada in violation of Lubicon rights under article 27 of International Convenant on Civil and Political Rights. The violations were funded by 9.5 million federal subsidy. Alberta 65.2 million to support access to Lubicon land. Decide what is racism and how to deal discrimination and corruption those are the very questions that folks practice in order to identify place of orgin so i question your motive and what purpose the identification of language would serve you in this forum.
  16. i am not sure i will approve the lovely lady scenario on the net link - maybe the problem is it is too readily accessible and real situations i would say nothing was compromise going to the store i didn't see the lovely lady doing anything there although most of the cover of the products had lovely ladies and insinuated the scenario i meant when i visit the toy store it was more educational , it was a routine exercise if anything, nothing erotic, i mean i even follow thru with the marketing of the products - well the kid might as well learn business sense while we are at it, they had some devices there for people experiencing problems maybe because of some medical condition, so went through that also but i did buy a teenager book that had drawings and had toys well where do one draw the line and how liberal are we suppose to be, and how much can you corrupt the child
  17. oops i wasn't finished but i wasn't sure whether the links were just that discreet as showing toys or and also it was animated with images like the real McCoy stuff i meant there are educational videos especially for the purposes of sex education i have a feeling that some parents still taboo "sex" that it is secretive, and out of boundaries for progressive discussion and an it is still an uncomfortable topic parents are responsible also for the child sex education it is sad, when they don't take this responsibility seriously, but also they did not allow the classroom to share the gap of information dissemination -- i mean if the links were legitimately educational and filtering information for school children i don't see a problem i took my kid to the "aren't we naughty store" for a visit see all the toys there and well also got educated myself with the new gimmicks available, mind you i had to produce an identification, but no embarrassment i also have to do this sometimes at the liquor store, but you know you are doing well when the kid feeds you new information on the trends on what’s happening.
  18. yes the link up to porn sites is getting a very "comprehensive" sex education the difference there is nothing like streching the imagination when you are encourage to reading the material - sort of boring stuff, maybe would encourage the abstinence rather than immediate access to pron sites are these xxx rated sites anyways? sorry will continue later ....
  19. i think there is a link between gender, wealth, race, ethnicity, language why the children are not doing well in education In Japan and Finland they are probably just facing lesser differiential in race, language, ethnicity so they only have to deal with the gender and weatlh - and you might have already alluded to this fact in the write ups Anyway i wanted to mention about the race born link in Toronto. Success indicators show that - 54% of english speaking Caribbean children had 14 credits of less at the end of grade 10. -45% of students born in West Africa, Central or South America would not graduate on time - 39% of East Africans, 24% South Asians, 23% Eastern Europe, 16% Eastern Asia will not graduate on time - 27% Canadian born students were at risk
  20. its ironic when Matthew Coon stood up in guess where apartheid South Africa and questioned whether Canadians are racists? and you are shocked? Canadians are very tolerant of others openingly, they almost like the word diversity, mostly because we have greatly developed and enhanced our human side, and I would go as far as to say CANADA YOU ARE #1, Canada, you might not do well in education, but on the top of a list of being a number one country for being polite. Coon is far from being wrong. Canada also tolerate systemic racism. assimilation of the natives will not foster rebirth of recognition of their loss cultural values and thats what they are looking for. ok i want to say also they would like to impose consciousness into the white folks psyche. currently they are remapping the land with the initial indian names given to plots of land. nothing might come out of this but at least it gets document. secondly, Canada has done some strategic segregation of the natives by putting them in bands and want to negotiate within bands. i mean the government against 20 people in one area, and the government against 400 people in another, c'mon. so the power structure of who gets and what gives is overwhelming. if the natives are allowed to negotiate as a group they would have increase voices.
  21. Play me a violin. Racism is alive in every country on Earth, only it's worse in almost all of them than here. Are you just writing for writing sake. Racism is a problem, there are racist rules in effect maybe not with intend but it definitely excludes people. I will tell you what I read into your writing in critical discourse. firstly you are using topoi in "play me a violin" and are trivialising the issue of racism playing to the audience and cunningly because you want them to know the real truth about racism. So enters some assertiveness, a real truth. Yes, you make it clear the racism exist, in a worst form, in fact it exist everywhere, further explanation, it exist on every place on earth. such exaggeration as frontage. And how nice because you intend to let everyone know of this fact. The readers of course had not figured this racism issue out yet. So with great usage of over simplification, and trivilization with assertion you want to make it clear my statement of “racism is alive and well in Canada” is deliberately misleading the reader who are well too silly to realise it anyway. But wait a minute are those just some blanket statements, or you just writing anything, there is no evidence for the entire earth, you think racism exist in Vatican City. But here is racism in canada for you Some of your systemic laws are problematic... How about the Komagata Maru incident. Japanese Canadians were forced to decide on deportation to Japan or relocation to parts east of the Rockies. in 1947, 4,000 Japanese Canadians had left Canada; 2,000 were Canadian born, of whom one third were children under the age of sixteen .. see that link below http://www.google.ca/search?q=cache:NOLMwQ...in+canada&hl=en
  22. i don't understand if a poster is reasonable in the debate and comply with the rules thereof, and it is a free forum to engage discussions that a poster's name justifies deletion correct me, but there is no where in the rules that say what names to use, i believe it would advise whether a name is taken, and i am not sure if it would provide alternative names, how do you restrict the amount of names one person can have if you are all anonymous anyways i mean its not like we wish to scum the bottom of the earth to come up with unique names, and my argument is i guess since we have a society that promotes devious behavious of capitalising and hijacking "household" names for gains, entertainment, hidden agendas etc. everything goes unless it is challenged and it does not mean deletion without consent, it could mean cooperation ok look at it this way there are folks out there that want to ensure your names are common enough so that it is unlikely that there will some cause for action in the future, so try diluting of the names from now. well if you believe you names constitute a famous mark then there might be some cause for action, really try to patent it otherwise as long as i am not infringing in my posting of issues relevant to the theme of the forum there should not be willful cause for action surrounding my name in defense of others
  23. what about their focus on self-goverment and autonomous development they need to keep their brighest to negiotiate to keep their self-determination alive, they have a "right" to govern themselves
  24. I always liked this definition of racism It is strange when we try to correct some problems it is special treatment. Look it, there is a native town in North Ontario existing 400 people - recent sucides is over 40, its a social emergency Why don't try telling the folks of Quebec to do away with the French culture and assimilate them into mainstream I more or less agree. I have to disagree, out of all the groups of people the natives are the worst of the lot. They have lost themselves, and no economic power to negiotiate much. You can put them up as a starting point with the 20% wealthy canadians, and another 80% of the population doing better than the natives and then turn around say proudly - make it work. A level playing field for all. So I will give you another quote I like Nothing will happen unless we intervene and this goes for all the depressed groups
  25. Racism is alive and well in Canada. It is a discomforting to admit what happen to the native folks. I mean usually everyone in Canada has a place of orign except of course the native people. This Canada is where they belong - we can't tell them to return to their roots like we did with the Japanese, Indio- Pakistani, blacks. It should be a concern that this enduring uncomfortable presence of race dominance is what constitutes a norm of societal belonging in Canada. I mean in one of the beer commerical, it portrayedf 2 white folks rowing towards Canada, and discovery is made whatever as if they were the first people to actually land at its shores. Yes there are some inherent historical shadows of race dominance and it shows how the dominant group is problematic in its attempt to manage various native and ethnic communities. They still practice polite racism and other forms. But, I mean how come Quebec has a unique culture whilst we try to extinct the native culture. I get to say that racism is constructed in the imagination and invisiable boundaries are set how to define differences. Chinatown is a creation of the imagination. Chinatown is an classic example how communities are imagine, contructed and reconstructed. What this means is that in terms of race is that imagined communities were formed to reinforce the notion of presumed difference. Boundaries were then created as structure of surveillance and discipline to control and dominate of others for social, political and economic control...yes This is exactly what happened to the natives, all I remember as a kid was the cowboys chasing the Indians and had much appreciation for cowboys. Oh the difficulties of aboriginal peoples have deep roots. One of the stories told of the coyote and the ducks' shining feathers at a lake. hmm the coyote wanted to look pretty so it asked for one feather of the ducks. the ducks wanting to be friendly offered a feather. Then, the coyote looked at its reflection and thought well it wish to balance the feathers so returned to the lake asked for another one. He heard about the white man coming to hunt so made a deal for more feathers to watch over the ducks. You know what happened eventually all the duck's feathers are gone, most of the ducks are gone also. Nowadays, the ducks are growing new feathers but they are much smaller and not so shining. The court system is upholding the treaties and land claims. Sometimes, the folks are just fed up I mean how about the mckenzie valley pipeline? How about dividing the natives in small bands instead of nations, and how about deciding who is indian? If you spoke english you were half-breed therefore not an Indian, even when both parents are Indians?
