  1. Good grief. Fags are coming to carry away your kids betsy, watch out!
  2. What is this? You need a "can someone please do some meaningless research for me?" thread I think. How many among the old hard-line reform of the Conservative Party are bilingual? Is Stephen Harper bilingual, or memorizing his lines?
  3. I don't see your characterizations in the piece you linked. They are bringing up concerns. It is not a "rationale" for anything as you state in a later post than this, it is a list of concerns and a stated hope that those concerns be addressed by any new legislation. What is your answer to the specific concern regarding the unequal age of consent for anal and other types of sex, for example?
  4. Well, I think you win the award for the days most insightful post! "Iraq is a dump" 23 million people.....living in a "dump" that needs "cleaning up". Call me crazy, but I think they were happy with thier dumpy homes before the USA levelled so many of them. I'm curious, why was/is it a dump that required cleaning up? And how do you define "cleaned up"?
  5. That's unbelievable. If it was a 16 or 17 year old considering sex with a 12 or 13 year old respectively, why would I be making the point that the 16 or 17 year old should be able to "consent"? It's obvious that the point refered to people OLDER that the 16 or 17 year old, and the fact that you'd look for a loophole to misinterpret the obvious casts doubt on your honesty concerning the entire issue.
  6. For. Anything that encourages stable relationships is a good thing. I'm for family.
  7. shouldn't Canada have rolled over and joined George like Tony did? http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/comm...255E401,00.html Why isn't Canada supporting the destruction of Iraq? What's WRONG with Canada? Jeez, Stephen Harper was SO RIGHT, we should have joined with the USA cause they're our "best friend in the whole wide world".
  8. I disagree. Where the hell did you get that from? Debate in good faith please.
  9. I don't think I (or the article) said anything about a "different set of rules". Is a 17 year old guy who has relations with a 14 year old girl a "perverted pedophile" in your view? You're coming accross emotional and seem to have ignored the content of the article. I personally don't think that anyone under 16 should be allowed to have sex with anyone 18 or over. I think 16 and 17 year olds should be able to consent with those within 4 years of thier age. Now, with my proposal a 15 year old and an 18 year old would be criminal. I'm not totally comfortable with that either, if the relationship is a healthy one. That is an example of the issue with an "absolute" consent law.
  10. I don't know if you've ever worked with sod before, but it's quite easy to peel it up neatly with a nice sharp spade. Dig out a little earth and ta-da a perfect nest for a mine. Lay the perfectly cut sod back down over it and it'd be almost invisible. Given that, you're observation about the riding lawn mower is moot....however, the lawn could be mown without setting the mine off. The wheels do not touch the entire field. So, your "plot hole" is quite filled up. And even if all that weren't true, a nature hike or a sand-covered field would have lost the most important aspect of the clip....the bringing of the horror into the Western world reality of the middle class. A soccer mom, no less. To lose that would have left a huge plot hole. Can't believe a person who is bugged by plot holes would miss that!!
  11. I read the article. It's not calling for an abolishment of an age of consent law. It talks about how such a law should be examined in the context of societal differences between sexual orientations.
  12. Sure, no prob. Kudos for acknowledging that Geoffrey. I noticed that also. Martin got roasted. I also noticed that the amazing news that Harper was cutting off media questions 2 days before the election...followed by the reversal of the decision after it was reported got NO coverage on the CBC. It was news, especially given the Harper platform of accountability and transparancy. I think the CBC has been beat up by rightwingers and is running scared. And on top of that, I can tell you that I recall hearing ALL the latest juicy tidbits and opposition outrage on CBC news every morning as the Gomery commision was at work and then after the inquiry came out. No hint of sadness from those reading the news either.
  13. Who was suggesting the world would come to an end? ANOTHER mariage debatre, joining BMD, and deficit spending is hardly the end of the world! And it's funny that you say the media suggested the Liberals needed a "time-out" and call that a liberal slant. Wasn't a "time out" one of the attack lines against the Libs?
  14. This commercial is meant for the USA. Notice the "soccer mom"? The hope is to get the US behind the cause. The Bush admin has backed away from treaties.
  15. I'm sorry, but that is just a dumb statement. I don't like Jack Layton at all myself, but I know several individuals who earn more than that who voted NDP. Then their stupid, becuase the Tories are the only party who wants to give tax cuts that will eft middle and high class people. Low class people will never see a tax cut that will break them into the middle calss range,, so its not worth it. They should just get better jobs. Is that all that matters to you, "tax cuts"? These people with good jobs who vote NDP do so for a variety of reasons. They're not one-issue voters, as you appear to be.
  16. Stolen lives, limbs and livelihoods * Mine deaths and injuries over the past decades now total in the hundreds of thousands. * It is estimated that there are between 15,000 and 20,000 new casualties caused by landmines and unexploded ordnance each year. That means there are some 1,500 new casualties each month, more than 40 new casualties a day, at least two new casualties per hour. * Most of the casualties are civilians and most live in countries that are now at peace. * In Cambodia, for example there are almost 40,000 landmine survivors recorded between 1979 and 2002. These are the survivors. Some 18,000 people were killed in this period. More than 60 % of the total casualties, numbering some 57,000, were civilians (source: Landmine Monitor Report 2003). "Working Legs" - close-up of an Angolan farmers prosthetic leg. Leuna. Angola, 1997. Credit: Tim Grant Development disaster * Landmines deprive people in some of the poorest countries of land and infrastructure. * Once there is peace most soldiers will be demobilized and give in their guns, mines however don't recognize a cease-fire. * They hold up the repatriation of refugees and displaced people. * They also hamper reconstruction and the delivery of aid. * Assistance to landmine survivors can be an enormous strain on resources. * Landmine casualties deprive communities and families of breadwinners. * Mines also kill livestock and wild animals and wreak environmental havoc. Landmines are everywhere * Every region in the world is mine-affected. * More than 80 countries are affected to some degree by landmines and/or unexploded ordnance. * Nobody knows how many mines are in the ground. But the actual number is less important than their impact: it can take only two or three mines or the mere suspicion of their presence to render a patch of land. * Some of the most contaminated places are Afghanistan, Angola, Burundi, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cambodia, Chechnya, Colombia, Iraq, Nepal and Sri Lanka. * Some countries with a mine problem don’t provide much public information about the extent of the problem such as Myanmar (Burma), India or Pakistan. Sorry if that's all too "emotional" for any of the tough guys here.
  17. Why is that a problem for you? Do you have a problem with anti-drug commercials (commercial, not "movie" I would say)?? Wah? A. You must be unaware of how many civilians are injured or killed by landmines every year. B. It is an issue I would like to change. It's more than "mensionable".
  18. I'm sorry, but that is just a dumb statement. I don't like Jack Layton at all myself, but I know several individuals who earn more than that who voted NDP.
  19. Not really, because I didn't say that. Please read more carefully. I always believed the CBC was centrist. They've been unfairly critisized for many years by rightwing activists.
  20. Oh you're confused, I don't care if he shakes his kids hands. I'm just telling you that a lot of people thought it was wierd. I actually think it was just camera shyness.....I do, however, think it was incredibly stupid to allow cameras to film him walking his kids to school. If that's any indication of his intelligence then we're in for a treat. Isn't that what it's called when you stand up for Canada to the USA? Oh...I forgot......it's a Conservative government now.
  21. Why do you hate Canada?
  23. Hitler got very good press in Germany. But I'm curious to know what you're complaining about. To create such anger you must have heard some specific examples of mistreatment or unfair press. Can you remember any?
  24. Are there any forum rules against trolling? You know....posting garbage with the sole intent of starting a flame war?
  25. "Growing"? It's completely taken over. Between CanWest and Sun Media there's not many papers left. I think the point of the topic is that Winnipeg is dominated by rightwing media, and the agenda this election was to elect Stephen Harper. Wouldn't it be nice if Harper could have been elected without the media in his pocket?
