The ignorance and hatred on display here is stunning. Can I ask where you're from?
-
Actually no. According to the Supreme Court of Canada (in a UNANIMOUS 8-0 decision) has said that the Kirpan is not a Weapon and is allowed in schools. For the chip-heads: Kirpan <> weapon <> not allowed in schools. Sorry about the double negative. So, there's a risk of a "religious attack" now?

Iran and Qaeda benefit from US in Iraq: congressman Reuters Sunday, March 5, 2006; 12:58 PM WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. presence in Iraq is hurting the worldwide war on terrorism and benefits only Iran and al Qaeda, U.S. Rep. John Murtha said on Sunday. "The only people who want us in Iraq are Iran and al-Qaeda," Murtha said on CBS's "Face the Nation" political talk show. "And I talked to a top-level commander the other day and he said China wants us there also. Why? Because we're depleting our resources ... our troop resources and our fiscal resources. "... The war on terrorism is worldwide. In Iraq, it's a civil war," said Murtha, a Pennsylvania Democrat. snip One of the problems I see and frustrating things is our ambassador keeps giving advice to the Iraqis," Murtha said. "Every time we give the Iraqis advice, they vote for someone else ... The Iraqis don't pay attention to our advice." snip "We have a situation where our military is in such bad shape, it couldn't deploy to a second front," Murtha said. "And the Iranians know this. North Korea knows it. China knows it. We're depleting our resources in Iraq." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...6030500361.html I watched this interview. He also makes the point that Iraqis are tolerating Al Qaeda in Iraq because everyone is united against the occupation. Once the occupation ends, they'll kick the terrorists out.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/03/05.html#a7402 This guy makes total sense. The point he makes right at the end of the video about Al Qaeda in Iraq is very salient. I hope more Americans start to hear that message, because it's the truth and it's probably why 70% of American troops beleive the USA should be pulled out within a year.

Klein Is Violating The Canada Health Act
gerryhatrick replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You do realize that healthcare in American costs more per capita, don'tcha? Yup. I'd say mostly due to insurance rates to cover malpractice suits. Do you know how much malpractice insurance is down there? Why all the malpractice suits? Trying to maximize profit? You forget all of the uninsured who are not refused treatment as well. Well, it's a real relief you're not bothered by it. Your assumption that I'm accepting something blindly is ignorant. I fully understand the forces at work. Sure, I want to see our system PROGRESS. It has areas that require improvement. Waiting times for elective surgury, for example. Folks with REGRESSIVE attititudes like yours though see a problem and assume the whole philosophy of the system needs to be thrown out. I do not want to inject the profit motive into health care. Profit is not bad, and competition can make things better, I know. Sometimes, though, profit can mean that service and quality suffers, especially in an oligopoly scenario. You think I'm following the health act philosophy blindly, but most of it's critics seem to be following a market philosophy blindly. Let me put it in plain terms for you: I do not want my local hospital to be the next Enron. One of the accusations of "fear mongering" against the Conservative opponents (which consisted only of the Liberals in the last election) was the accusation that social services like medicare would be in danger. Harpers response to Klien - once it extends beyond just words - should be interesting. -
It is not neccessary for the immigrant to change and become like everyone else. And it's not neccessary for the society to change either. That's the beauty of Canada. Our immigrants make us richer. Your example of going to an intollerant society and flaunting dress codes is not applicable because Canada IS TOLERANT. Some of the present company excluded, of course. It makes me proud that our Supreme Court UNANIMOUSLY voted to allow this innocuous religious practice in our schools. Nobody has ever been hurt by a Kirpan, and it's pure intollerant fear-mongering at work on the side of the opposition.

What would you know about things Canadian? You're not Canadian. Would someone like you, who clearly hates everything about Canada, be the one to make that judgement? I'm miles ahead of you, a person who clearly doesn't have the faintest clue what Canada is about. Sikhs are a part of Canada. As much as that pains you, it is the reality. If you can't accept it, then may I suggest Utah or Kansas as a place to live out your days?
-
I see. So Sikhs are below your standards? All very interesting And your a racist piece of sh#t. Oh well.

Yeah, anyone who would throw a book at a young girl just deserves all the support in the world! -
The Supreme Count UNANIMOUSLY DISAGREES with your assessment that the kirpan is a "lethal weapon". I highly doubt you've ever even seen one. The court has ruled. Get over it.

Keep bringing it on. This is an interesting insight into the ignorance and intollerance that exists - sadly - in our society. I have Sikh neighbours. The old man has a beard (looks good, not "ridiculous" at all) and wears robe-like dress. His turban is not all that big, really. Are you basing your opinion on the Johnny Carson turban perhaps? And of course the man will have a kurpin on his person. My neighbour is a member of modern day Canadian society. Get used to it. And yes, I can relate to him very well. He is a stand-up guy and always friendly. It's interesting you call Sikh Canadians "curious relics". That confirms that you don't understand them at all. Calling them "curious" explicitely implies you know little about them. What you don't understand you are more likely to fear and hate.

Where do we draw the "tolerance line"?
gerryhatrick replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That wasn't the "Muslim position". Many non-Muslims agree that the depictions of Mohammed should not be published. Don't make it a polarized Muslim/non-Muslim issue, it's far beyond that. What's the "media agenda"? Pro-gay? To many small-minded folks, a lack of condemnation of gays in the media itself constitutes bias. That's not the medias job...it's the job of folks like Vic Toews. -
Sihks aren't ridiculous. They are proud and noble and worthy Canadians. Roll out some more hate and intollerance....this is fun. I think you should re-consider. I don't see a person with intollerant and hateful attitudes like your own to be truely Canadian.
-
Oh yes it is. It's intollerant and hateful also. But most importantly, it's extremely ignorant also. Many of those people wearing turbans ARE CANADIAN. If you don't like Canada and what it is I invite you to move someplace else. My Canada is multi-cultural. That doesn't mean we allow immigrants and expect them to conform and become "Canadian" in some shape or form after we've given them citizenship. It means they ARE CANADIAN after they get thier citizenship and we are HAPPY to see them keep all of who they are when they arrived in this nation. By your logic, We should all be living in teepees on the plains and eating bannock. Or living in igloos? Or does you "while in Rome do as Romans do" mantra only apply to immigrants starting now, with YOU being an example of a "Roman"? It makes me proud that the RCMP allows turbans to be worn. It made that institution richer, and if you can't see that you're missing part of what it is to be a Canadian.

You get the stupid post of the year award. Hands down. Go get educated on the Kirpan. Then come back and try again. THe Kirpan is a knife you ignornat fool, your post arnt anyhting special either almost somthing to laugh at you can hardly state your oppinions with out backing them up. A kirpan is a knife and can be used in a assault mos tof these people in this forum will back me up, and if you got your head out of your ass you would know that. Just answer me this would you want your kid in a school where a kid with a KNIFE was sitting next to him? DOn;t even tell me you would. Obviously the Supreme Court of Canada disagrees with you. You're entitled to your opinions, but not your own facts. Your claim that it is something that will be used is one of ignorance and stupidity. Your competing with yourself for that stupid post award. Go educate yourself. Don't make one false determination and then read into it all of your own fears and biases.

HAHA you don't know how stupid you just made your self look. Really? Why don't you tell me? HAHA It's a flame thread, period. It seems there's no rules on this forum, so whatever. Hatemongers get to spam us with anti-Muslim threads. Woo hoo. -
No, I think ad hom works very well in your case. I understand your game. I've seen it over and over. You claim you haven't seen examples of Muslims speaking against terrorism and violence, and therefore it must not be happening (because OF COURSE you're plugged in) It's anti-Muslim garbage, nothing less. There are many examples, but I will not go find them for you. I've played that game with Muslim haters before, and won't be played again. Now, let me guess your response. I won't provide the examples you demand because they aren't available. See, told you I've seen your anti-Muslim crap before.

Canadian Casualties in Afghanistan
gerryhatrick replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What is this in reference to? Canada stands for many things. I'm damned proud to be a Canadian. Sounds like you don't think Canada stands for anything. Perhaps you miss a lot of things that are perhaps less obvious than armed conflict. -
