The Taliban are guilty of terrorism when they attack social institutions they don't tolerate. The vast majority of Taliban actions are not terrorism though. So what is an intelligent policy against them? Destroy them all? Who's "stupid"? They will need to be dealt with politically, because they are likely to be indiscernable from the population and after enough warfare ensues the population will invariably become resentful of the outsiders who they will view as the common denominator for violence and death. Simple stuff.

"Tories Plan To Protect Same-Sex Opponents"

I have a friend in his riding. She's always telling me about the anti-gay literature he sends out. Big time bible belt boy. -
Rona Ambrose, Darrel Reid & Global Warming

Gerry, do you even bother to read anyone else's posts? The quote and link are right there in the opening post. I always read others posts August. It's just that this time I got distracted by the first link and missed the second link. And quote. Sorry about that! -

Oh yeah, Canada was inches away from putting ministers in jail. They probably think this pointless legislation will please their base, but it's got no real purpose. -

You left out the relavent criticism of the guy: http://www.canada.com/topics/news/national...379&k=79240 Given that he's assisting Rona Ambrose that's pretty disturbing. -
Let's not forget what Pope Benidict is...
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Apparently you don't believe in innocent until proven guilty. We have seen far too many innocent people's lives ruined by baseless accusations designed only to bring ruin. Apparently you're confused. Nobody is accusing the Pope of molesting children. His letter - a confirmed document - orders bishops to maintain secrecy over all accusations and evidence of child molestation. It is not necessary for there to be a court case and conviction, although there have been many of child predators in the Catholic clergy. If you're going to hide behind that red herring then you're not admitting the truth before you, which is an abomination to God. -
"West won’t win Afghan war"

What an incredibly idiotic thing to say. He is only there getting shot at, just like Frisk, Layton and you, right. What an incredibly moronic thing to say. Being shot at in Afghanistan does not automaticallygive you complete insight into the best social and political policies there. But sitting on your ass in Canada listening to people who are sitting on their asses in North America does. You think Bill Frist sits on his ass in Canada listening to people who are sitting on their asses in North America? Just shut it, please. -
I guess we'd have to look at Foley's law, the one he wrote. It dealt specifically for situations like this. The FBI can now be involved in this. The FBI are involved now. As you said earlier, Repubs have been calling him a pedophile. If it's a 16 year old is that pedophilia in some States? I don't know....but the as you also mentioned the law he helped enact is the one that will likely nab him. Any way this is sliced I think it turned over both houses to the Dems, and that's good news for accountability in the US democracy.

Sounds like a page out of the Layton hand book, let me ask you gerry why would we traval this far down this road to give the current elected government back to the same people we wrestled it's control from. Why did we come over here in the first place? Why did i have to watch 10 close comrads get loaded onto the back of a herc? Armyguy, the Afghanistan mission is obviously an emotional issue for you. You should look upon information regarding it with a little more cold impartiality. Bill Frist is the polar opposite of Layton politically. Frist is a huge supporter of Bush and the war on terror. I say that only because it should lend some perspective to his opinions when they appear on the surface to match those of Layton. I appreciate that you are on the front lines, but that does not give you a lock on the reality of Afghanistan anymore than a US Senator has. In reality, Frist probably knows more of the reality than you would. -

I take it by your "whatever" that you really don't care if priests abuse children -- you really don't care that the church (Ratzinger) covers it up. Geez Betsy, I thought you were "for" family values? I don't know about you, but my family values include protecting innocent children from predators, no matter who they are. Anyone who covers up this abuse is just as guilty as the abuser. I take it if someone accused your husband of molesting children, based on just hearsay....it's okay with you if we condemn him guilty right away, right? There is no "hearsay" involved in this betsy. The Pope signed a letter as it has been described in the media. I believe in protecting children, and I don't care if it is the Pope...anyone giving orders for others to keep accusations and evidence of child sexual abuse a secret is a criminal and deserves to rot in jail. Seemingly you disagree with that. -
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationw...nationworld-hed I'd be interested to hear from those who have expressed such strong opinion to the contrary, such as Armyguy. In my opinion this is a perfect example of something that warrents discussion. It's a view contrary to many who count themselves as enlightened and able to face hard truths about terrorists that others can't face. Perhaps Frist is presenting another hard truth that needs facing.

More bullsh#t. I gave you a lashing because you accused me of wanting Canada to lose in Afghanistan. Armyguy is getting far less of a lashing for claiming that 59% of Canadians don't support their troops. You say you wish to "debate", but all you ever do is attack me personally. That's fine, I don't care. Just don't cry when you step over the line and get bit. And sorry for forgetting what you are, you are back on my ignore list for the good of the forum.

A recap of the topic: So what we have there, undeniabley, is a claim from the CPC executive director Michael Donison telling the Senate committee that his party has turned over what Mr. Kingsley asked for. The same committee that Kingsley tells he has not received the books asked for. And after all that we have this happening: Oh, well, nah nah boo boo to Mr. Kingsley I guess. Except that: And on the same day: If they've supplied what was asked for how on earth would the commissioner of Elections Canada rule otherwise?

Must you insult me and my *idiot* stuff? You didn't make anything clear about the "lack of logic" being strictly applied to Buckler's words in this case. Given that you attack everything Harper does, you clearly take issue with those who boted for him. Answer the question Ricki. How does the logic of a vote cast in the last election equate to the logic of Buckler's words?

Torontonians Ignore High American Culture.....
gerryhatrick replied to M.Dancer's topic in Canada / United States Relations
That is not true. I don't know what your heritage is, but many Canadians have varied interests. You should refrain from generalizing. Perhaps your observation is a result of us being neighbours of the USA. Obviously given the facts that the US is a superpower and our neighbour a great deal of what we are concerned with also concerns the USA. That is true for many of the worlds nations simply due to the US being a superpower. i.e. everyone is concerned with Iraq. -
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home I agree with the pollsters analysis that this shows more of a spillover attitude about the Bush administration and it's war in Iraq and terror than it does with Canadian policy. Canadians have figured out that Bush and his people have nothing left but empty rhetoric and that Iraq is getting worse. They're hearing SOME of the same rhetoric from Stephen Harper and Gordon O'Conner et al and it's creating the same negative attitude over Afghanistan. Apologies to other posters for forgetting my ignore list. Here is the topic post once again for your comment. I will refrain from being baited into polluting the forum. thx.
