But taxpayers fund the CBC. ALL taxpayers. They must be balanced between the so-called right and left. Whether or not their being left-leaning balances out the media overall is not the point. If they would like to go unfunded by the people of Canada, as with the "corporate" entities, then they would have the right to lean to the left until they fall over. Conversely, I would grumble as loud if they leaned to the right. One billion dollars a year should be enough support to make sure they don't lean at all.

In a true democracy everybody has the right to debate. I noticed a number of you right wing enthusiasts here on this website have told me to shut up. That doesn't surprise me. My views are not left. They are centered and prop-peace. If I am center, what are you ? Sorry, but there is a small, unwritten rule around here (or so I've noticed) that basically says that when you make a comparison between any current person and Hitler, it's time for you to go. So go. Bye. Bu-bye. Bye now.

Are we witnessing a turning point in our history?
Hydraboss replied to Harare's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Decriminalization only matters to me in the context of whether or not a person has the right to show up to work stoned. What they do on their own time, I couldn't care less about (with the exception of exposing children to the smoke). However, if any of the guys that work for me show up baked, they could EASILY kill someone. So, if they decriminalize possession, how will this trickle down to prohibition at work. "I can have this here, and if you don't like it...call the cops." If the most they will receive is a fine, then that is not a deterent. -
Sources please. By the way, I have been on the other side. I worked my ass off for a jerk that liked to write bad checks. Every payday, I would head to his bank and put my check in collections (cost me $15) and wait for him to deposit a company check (and then I got paid). Sometimes, this could take over a week. Why didn't I just get another job? There weren't any. And I didn't qualify for UI (that's what it was called, remember?) so I couldn't suck from the public tit. Heartless???? Because I believe that people should stand on their own two feet? Would you encourage a defeatest attitude by handing people that which they have not earned? Heaven help this country should a person of your beliefs run the social programs. Adversity built all things worth building. Nobody looks to Michaelanglo and thinks, "Too bad he couldn't sit at home and drink wine. Poor bugger had to work."

"legally murder some of its citizens."? Are you still playing with your Yu-Gi-Oh cards? Do you understand what outright liebel is? Murder? "simpletons (Conservatives)"? Insults are the last defence of those of limited intelligence. Do you want to speak to the pros/cons of devolving central power in a government? Fine, lets do that. However, if these are the only types of statements you can muster, please go back and write your grade 12 departmentals. Scratch that. I know high school students that could have this conversation sans insults. (sans means "without") Go away, and come back when yer all growed up. -
Svend Robinson is a thief. Out the political door, I say. Off with you now. Politicians have enough problems with corruption and perceived corruption. They do not need a CONFIRMED criminal muddying the waters. Svend, go away or I shall be forced to taunt you again.

Except no MP's from the Pot Party. And I really was looking forward to the giggling and Dorito eating during Question Period. -

Harper has pulled some bonehead moves in policy. $100? Why bother. As to whether or not he harbours "extremist right wing values", who cares? Does anyone actually believe that he will assume the Throne and strike down anyone that does not agree with him? He's not that strong. And never will be. Let us not forget, we (political parties included) are Canadians. In the big scope of world wide politics, we are ALL left of center. Bickering over degrees is pointless. -

I don't know as much about politics out on the west, but I do know that wouldn't happen if another party could present an acceptable alternative. You hit it on the head. NDP's in this province are a nothing. Never will be. The provincial Liberals always campaign on the "we're not them" platform. And therefore, will not be in power in the forseeable future. Am I the only one that sees the remarkable parallel between AB provincial and Canadian federal situations? -

Make no mistake. Alberta is currently a democratically elected dictatorship. Klein, who I used to support, has been in power too long and reminds me too closely of Johnny Crouton. We need either a new leader, or a new party in power, or both. -
Wow! You're a Pinoy too? Btw, let me drop another bombshell: I am from Carleton Place. I have not read that column though and do not know the mayor. Actually, I am many generation Canadian (German and Polish). And I am intolerant of other cultures. Can't you tell?

betsy, if in 20 years you have not heard it, "Welcome to Canada". You are, of course, going to invite me for "Noche Buena", right? Damn, I forgot I'm conservative... What I meant to say was, "Get out, and take all your relatives and beliefs with you!" ---------------------------------- A belated Maligayang Pasko to you!

Come on, eureka, I'm waiting... Let's throw away the thoughtful debate process and get right to the name calling. I'll wait. -

Man, I'm at a loss. I got nothing. Your insult has tramatized me. I re-read your post, and I stand by my comments. If you firmly believe that the fed's deal with provinces as a "big, friendly brother" that guides decisions, that is your right. I, however, believe that the current system is heavy handed federally, and unfair to boot. Differences in opinion. Now, if you would like to cast insults around like Liberal AdScam funds, I can play that game too. Just let me know and we'll flip for who starts. -

"\" It has only the power to tax and to negotiate the spending of the tax moneys with the provinces... "/" Negotiate? Are you sure you didn't mean blackmail? We (Alberta) send billions to Ottawa, and then have to beg to get money back for social programs that are PROVINCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. Want fairness? Send us a receipt for the programs you spend money on, and we'll issue you an expense check. There, done. Losing programs to the "whims" of the provinces? Are you saying that the elected provincial governments are inept at managing their programs? Even the NDP governments? Or was that just the "fend for yourselves" conservative ones? Alberta's health care system is the best and most efficient in Canada. I speak from ongoing experience. So should I be happy if Ottawa wants to micro-manage it? I think not. -

This issue is non-partisan, or at least it should be. I have (gulp!)..friends who are liberals (they're in therapy) who are equally offended everytime they hear "Seasons Greetings" instead of "Merry Christmas". People of all political stripes have the right to be choked by the strangling of the rights of the many. Want to see what happens to Kimmy if she goes to "a Middle Eastern country" and tries to walk around without a veil or lets her knees show? Wanna see tolerance? Yet we, as a society, will respect ALL the traditions of other cultures without question. Anyone remember the still-ongoing battle over Sheria (sp) Law????????? And a RoboRaptor is that robotic, remote controlled dinosaur you see on The Source (Radio Shack) commercials. My kid has one, but the grown-ups play with it more. p.s. - this is what the alphabet would look like without Q and R. -

And what, exactly, did he say that was incorrect? Christmas (read: celebration of the birth of Christ, not "Can I have a RoboRaptor?") has been celebrated in this country since the beginning. MOST of the immigrant origin countries celebrate it as a holy time, until the doors were flung wide open to everyone. I have no problem with Canada accepting people of all nations and religions, but when exactly were we forced to dilute our beliefs because someone from the Isle of Widget found it offensive. EQUALITY means equality for all, not just new immigrants. -

Actually, it was Coaldale which is 13 km away. Honest mistake.
