Kind of like "River God" and "Mindless Idiot". Fanatical right wing + billions in corporate welfare for military contractors + limits on free speech and free press = neo-fascism aka the dark side of neo-conservatism The American neo-conservative movement has clearly become unbalanced when media giants like FOX NEWS label the biggest capitalists in the world as “left-wing” if they don’t pledge unquestioning blind allegiance to Cheney and Bush’s Administration. The American fanatical-right are trying to create a culture of double-think, where people who question the Iraq War are left-wing traitors who are endangering the troops. Stunningly, zealots who want to expand the crusade to Syria, Iran and Venezuela are supposedly keeping the troops safely out of harms way. ========================= Footnotes (1) It’s ironic that in his latest speech Bush called on Americans to make more sacrifices in the war on terror, while he and his friends seem to be getting rich off it. Note that Halliburton stock is up 300% since Iraq was invaded in March 2003. Cheney’s half million deferred stock options probably went up over 1000%. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=hal&t=5y&l...=l&q=c&p=&a=&c= Chevron is up 200% since March 2003. Does Rice have any options in Chevron? How about her friends. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=CVX&t=5y&l=off&z=l&q=c&c= United Defense Industries went from $20 to $75 before being bought out. Nobody knows how Carlyle Corp is doing because it is private, but it is probably going through the roof. The Bush family has probably made tens of millions. How does this compare with the finances of the soldiers in Iraq? Many of them will barely be employable when they get back home. Deaths and injuries are growing in Iraq with over 2,079 confirmed American deaths. Over 15,500 have been seriously injured and it is estimated that over 50,000 will suffer from battle fatigue. There have also been reports of at least 30,000 Iraqi civilian deaths. (2005/11/18)

Harper's Missile Mindlessness Would Waste Billions
River_God replied to River_God's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's funny that they suspended testing after Raytheon's last anti-missile test .... missed the target by more than a mile.... So rather than having embarrassing situations like this reported, which could eventually lead to a cancellation of the work, the testing stopped.... so the funding wouldn't... funny eh ? -
Harper's Missile Mindlessness Would Waste Billions

At least Martin saw the light and got over it. Why though are conservatives still propagating the myth that we need to buy into the defence shield to protect Canada's sovereignty? How is having a bunch of useless American missiles on Canadian soil protecting our sovereignty???? At best they would ensure that Canada becomes a prime target in any nuclear war. Former US Ambassador Paul Cellucci even argued this nonesense on The Current (CBC radio) in October 2005. I guess you have to expect people to defend their jobs and business interests as a matter of have or have more. Why are you still defending the neo-cons on this one tml12? I thought you had grown up a bit. -
A “Defense Shield” sounds appealing, but many experts doubt that it will work. Recent studies by The US General Accounting Office, The American Physical Society, The Union of Concerned Scientists and former Pentagon weapons experts, all suggest that the system is similar to trying to hit a bullet with a bullet. In its current state of development, the defense shield is incapable of stopping missile that are sophisticated enough to hit the United States. The project will also start a new arms race, thwarting future developments. It’s doubtful that any nation would launch a surprise attack on the United States. North Koreans and Iranians already know that their countries would be destroyed by a massive US retaliation against any missile attacks. It is conceivable that al-Qaeda could obtain nuclear missiles and launch them at America. These fanatics might not care that their acts can be interpreted as an entire nation’s provocation of war. The US weapons industry might argue, but it seems al-Qaeda can be more effectively thwarted by spending money protecting ports, and collecting (not fabricating) intelligence. According to 22-year CIA veteran Michael Scheuer (senior analyst on al-Qaeda), there are fewer CIA al-Qaeda experts today than there were on 2001/09/11 (The Atlantic, Dec 2004, pg 52). If Bush doesn’t get his priorities straight, The Missile Defence Shield might well become a $500 billion pink elephant. Unlike B.C.’s Fast Ferries scam, however, the public might never know that their money was wasted. =============== The Vancouver Sun – March 27, 2004 Washington -- A group of 49 retired U.S. generals and admirals is warning Canada to reject the Bush administration's proposed ballistic missile defense shield, complaining that the program is both too expensive and unproven to make it worthwhile. The group, which includes a former chairman of the U.S. joint chiefs of staff, also wrote George W. Bush on Friday requesting that he postpone plans to deploy the system later this year. "Tell the Canadians to hold off -- don't waste their money," retired lieutenant-general Robert Gard, a spokesman for 49 former senior American officers who oppose the missile shield, said in an interview. "If I were the Canadian prime minister, I would say: 'Look we are interested if we find out whether or not it works. And so far, we don't know.'" Canada opened formal negotiations in January with the U.S. Defence Department aimed at reaching an agreement to participate in the national missile defence (NMD) program. The U.S. military plans to begin deploying land-based missile interceptors in Alaska and California by this September, and has waived operational testing requirements in order to meet the deadline. http://stopwar.ca/articles/mdi/dontjoin.html ================================== The Province, Apr. 7, 2004 Canada should reject Bush missile defence, a Jules Verne fantasy James McNulty High-flying arguments for Canada to join George W. Bush's missile-defence scheme are crashing faster than popped trial balloons. The latest broadside at the pulp-fiction dream came from American military experts. The group of 49 ex-officers includes retired admiral William Crowe, who chaired the joint chiefs of staff for George Bush Sr. In a March letter to Bush Jr., the officers said the unproven missile-defense shield should be stopped. Its $16-billion-US budget for 2004-2005 should then be redirected to fight terrorists who may try to bring small nuclear bombs into America, and to beef up security at U.S. nuclear-weapons storage facilities. "Tell the Canadians to hold off -- don't waste their money," retired Lt.-Gen. Robert Gard recently told Sheldon Alberts of CanWest News Service. "If I were the Canadian prime minister, I would say: 'Look, we are interested if we find out whether or not it works. And so far, we don't know,'" said Gard http://www.notacolony.ca/040704A_Canada_sh...rne_fantasy.htm ================== In fact, the current Defense shield isn't even remotely close to being effective. Many Nobel-laureate physicists have declared that the design is incapable of working effectively (much like trying to knock down a missile with a frisbee) Even if the system did work as hoped, it would be much easier to foil it with counter-measures (multiple decoys, zig-zag flight patern, variable acceleration etc...) than to build and guide an initial ballistic missile. Russia and China have already said they would develop counter-measures against the shield. They would obviously want to be able to foil the shield to maintain their nuclear deterrent against an aggressive strike by the USA. Russia and China also suspect that if the Star Wars project isn't effective as a defense mechanism, that it is simply a $500 billion dollar aggressive weapons system. Because of this they are upgrading their nuclear arsenals to provide a deterrent. With China upgrading its nuclear arsenal, India feels obliged to follow suit to defend against its historic enemy China. Pakistan, of course, will follow India's lead. this massive proliferation only increases the chances of an accident or of terrorists getting hold of a nuke. If a terrorist did get a nuke, they would probably sneak it into the US on a $50 000 boat instead of paying hundreds of millions of dollars for a launching and guiding system. On a boat, they wouldn't even have to clear customs. ================ http://english.people.com.cn/english/20000...0707_44895.html Nobel Scientists Says Missile Shield Would Be Dangerous Fifty Nobel Prize laureates warned President Bill Clinton on Thursday in Washington that deployment of a National Missile Defense (NMD) shield would be "premature, wasteful, and dangerous." In a letter addressed to Clinton, the scientists said NMD "would offer little protection and would do grave harm to this nation's core security interests." Particularly, a dangerous arms race would unfold as new offensive weapons were developed that would render the system ineffective, according to the group, members of the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) set up in 1945 by scientists who built the first atomic bomb +==================== You have to wonder how unstable and desperate the US government is, if a well-informed, right wing guy like CNN Founder Ted Turner publicly questions whether Bush wants to start a nuclear war. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051129/ap_en_tv/people_turner_2 Media mogul Ted Turner said Monday that Iraq is no better off following the U.S.-led invasion that ousted dictator Saddam Hussein than it was before the war. The philanthropist and founder of CNN also said the United States and Russia still have thousands of nuclear weapons pointed at each other on a "hair trigger," and he was afraid someone could make the mistake to launch them, including President Bush. You have to question ... the president on a lot of decisions he's made," Turner said in a lecture at Kansas State University. "He might just think launching those weapons would be a good thing to do. ... He thought Iraq was." Turner also raised concerns about overpopulation, poverty and hunger. He said in the future superpowers will derive their authority from education, health care, and science and technology, and encouraged the United States to focus on those areas. "We are going to survive together, or we are going to perish together," Turner said. Turner’s last statement is obviously a simplification. After a nuclear war, millions of people would die slowly of radiation sickness, with their families and friends dying beside them. The rest of the world might descend into chaos (like in the Mad Max movie). It’s laughable that many religious fanatics view this (Armageddon & the End of Days) as their stepping stone to paradise. Remember that Harper was furious at Paul Martin for backing out of the pseudo-defence shield/star wars project even after all of this information was well know. In early 2004, National Party Leader Mel Hurtig even published a book Rushing Toward Armaggeddon detailing the flaws of the shield. http://www.canadiandemocraticmovement.ca/d...article455.html Why then are conservatives still propagating the myth that we need to buy into the defence shield to protect Canada's sovereignty? How is having a bunch of useless American missiles on Canadian soil protecting our sovereignty???? At best they would ensure that Canada becomes a prime target in any nuclear war. We have been, and will continue to be much better off with Martin as Prime Minister. Harper is only useful as an opposition spook. The defence shield, like many of Harper's other ambitions (joining Iraq war to pad trade relations with the US, sovereignty for Alberta etc...) is just pork barreling, illusion and double think. If Harper had been elected in the last federal elections, he would have wasted far more of Canada's money than the Liberals. Like thousands of other pseudo-religious con-men around the world, Harper would have just ripped us off under the guise of right-wing righteousness. Of course, the defense shield has best been described as "the Biggest Corporate Welfare Scheme in the History of the World." Free enterprise at it's worst.

Westerners, but Albertans in particular, need to think hard about their future in this country. After sober reflection, Albertans should decide that it is time to seek a new relationship with Canada. It is time to look at Quebec and to learn.…Having hit a wall, the next logical step .... is to .... begin building another home – a much more autonomous Alberta. ( Stephen Harper National Post, December 8, 2000) “First, facts about Canada. Canada is a Northern European welfare state in the worst sense of the term, and very proud of it”. "God, will this problem between Quebec and the rest of Canada ever be resolved?" …God replies, "Yes, but not in my lifetime." (Stephen Harper's speech to the Council for National Policy, June 1997) http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/leadersparti...per_speech.html “Whether Canada ends up as one national government or two national governments or several national governments, or some other kind of arrangement is, quite frankly, secondary in my opinion… And whether Canada ends up with one national government or two governments or ten governments, the Canadian people will require less government no matter what the constitutional status or arrangement of any future country may be.” (Stephen Harper Speech to the Colin Brown Memorial Dinner, National Citizens Coalition, 1994) What the hell is Harper thinking about???? What benefit does he see in alienating Alberta and Quebec from Canada. He says it’s hopeless to make Quebecers feel happy in Canada and then makes it sound like he wants Alberta to separate too. The great relations between Germany and France today should give Harper an idea that Canada’s inter-provincial relations aren’t hopeless. Most Canadians see no benefit in distancing themselves from other provinces. Harper makes it sound like northern Alberta is repressed and would be better off forming its own national government. Oilsandsland ???? I don't know why all the conservatives on this site have so much faith that Harper has great plans for Canada. Why was Harper dumbstruck a few weeks ago when asked if he loved Canada? How long would it have taken Harper to profess his love for the USA?

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here fellowtraveler. Lots of 12 year olds are probably more articulate than you this morning. -
Cleaning House is a great idea. All of Canada's political parties need to clean up their act. I personally don't have any faith that Harper would do a significantly better job than Martin as the next Prime Minister, and I have serious doubts that Harper would be much worse. Harper is a good leader of the opposition though. He’s doing a good job shaking all the cobwebs out of the Liberal’s basement.

I know that it's disrespectful to make fun of the church, but if the shoe fits........... Everybody knows that most religious people are kind and generous and don't use their faith to attack others. Exceptions stick out like a sore thumb though. The Catholic Church has had as bloody and abusive history as any. The Babtist Church has also had more than its share of pseudo-religious conmen. Hopefully that's all behind us now. Happy New Year I'm not a fan of Big Government, but it's the only body that can do a good job of compliance and enforcement. Just like we need the RCMP to enforce civil laws, we need the government to protect the environment and enforce corporate laws. Harper's government has no business trying to ban abortions or make other theocratic judgments on Canadians. -
This has been brought up a few times. The Scary thing is that Harper has a history of kissing up to the worst of these guys while smearing Canada in the process. ================= The 2003 guest list includes names such as David Rockefeller, Richard Perle (Iraq war architect, key Bush pupeteer and self-proclaimed Darth Vader), Klaus Schwab (World Economic Forum), Henry Kissinger, the King and Queen of Spain, Paul Wolfowitz (another Iraq war architect and key Bush pupeteer) and a host of other bankers, corporate heads and royalty. Canadians in attendance included Conrad Black, Mark Steyn (National Post) Heather Reisman (Chapters-Indigo), Anthony Fell (RBC Dominion Securities) and Stephen Harper, Leader of the Opposition ============= Stephen Harper QUOTES Human rights commissions, as they are evolving, are an attack on our fundamental freedoms and the basic existence of a democratic society... It is in fact totalitarianism. I find this is very scary stuff. Whether Canada ends up as one national government or two national governments or several national governments, or some other kind of arrangement is, quite frankly, secondary in my opinion =========== Richard Perle QUOTES A year from now, I'll be very surprised if there is not some grand square in Baghdad that is named after President Bush. Acknowledge that a more closely integrated Europe is no longer an unqualified American interest. But if the UN cannot or will not revise its rules in ways that establish beyond question the legality of the measures the United States must take to protect the American people, then we should unashamedly and explicitly reject the jurisdiction of these rules. Dictators must have enemies. They must have internal enemies to justify their secret police and external enemies to justify their military forces. Dictatorships start wars because they need external enemies to exert internal control over their own people. If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely, and we don't try to piece together clever diplomacy but just wage a total war, our children will sing great songs about us years from now. That's what the neo-cons said when Bush was elected (as much by the Diebold voting computers as by the American people) Bush's Administration quickly withdrew from several international treaties and contravened several international laws. Bush was recently quoted as saying the US Constitution was just a GOD-DAMN PIECE OF PAPER. “I don’t give a goddamn,” Bush said. “I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.” “Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!” “Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.” http://www.comlinks.com/polintel/pi051214.htm Bush and Harper obviously answer to a much loftier piece of paper than either the US Constitution or the Canadian Constitution. ===== Note that all Biblical References are from the King James Version of the Bible ========== George W Bush seems to have played another astounding trump card with his claim that God told him to invade Iraq http://www.commondreams.org/cgi-bin/print....s05/1007-03.htm. The fact that Bush and Blair are fulfilling “God’s Will” in Iraq piously eliminates all the other controversy surrounding the war. The blatant controversy surrounding the Iraq War makes it abundantly clear that Bush is righteously bringing the concept of “God’s Will” into the picture. Naysayers might question the validity of “God’s Will” as a justification for war. Jesus did teach us to love our enemies and that it is never too late for forgiveness. Some passages of the Bible even vaguely suggest that Jesus died on the cross to wash away the world’s sins -- including the sins of Iraq and Saddam Hussein. Indeed, the Church does forgive sinners. The indisputable protection afforded to hundreds of child molesting Christian priests is just one example of the Holy Church’s divine grace. As Bush states, however, Saddam Hussein is much different from other sinners. Hussein is a sinner beyond salvation. Saddam Hussein’s regime of murder, torture, rape, oppression and exploitation of the Iraqi people was much more severe than any murder, torture, rape, oppression and exploitation of the Iraqi people that is taking place under the watchful eye of the neocons liberators. Some scholars point out that if God wanted to peacefully eliminate Sadam’s government, he could give all those sinners heart attacks easier than taking Adam’s ribs and creating Eve. This shows that God must have wanted Saddam to be removed by a glorious bombing campaign carried out by His Holy Messenger George W. Bush. A strictly fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible proves that God could indeed have chosen to preemptively attack Saddam Hussein (and destroy much of Iraq) based on Saddam’s future sins (WMDs, Links to al-Qaeda, etc..) In order to prove God’s ability to see that Iraq was beyond salvation without the blessed bombings of the Holy Crusade, people have to realize that time is much different in God’s eyes than in the layman’s. Alpha and omega, the beginning and the end of the Bible make this abundantly clear. In the beginning, on Page 3 of the Bible (Genesis Book 4), God shows us that Adam and Eve’s two sons, Cain and Seth, populated the entire world. At the end, on the last page of the Bible (Revelations Book 22, verses 18 and 19), God tells us that the Bible is complete and that anyone who adds or takes away from it shall be condemned to the plagues of Hell. Since Adam and Eve didn’t have any daughters, Cain and Seth must have procreated with women from subsequent generations. Christian Scientists have coined the term “Post Generational Procreation” to explain the phenomenon. Post Generational Procreation, the male equivalent of the Virgin Birth is indeed a miracle. Even the most skeptic layman has to accept that if “Post Generational Procreation” is possible, God could surely give Saddam and Iraqis a pre-emptive battering years before they were ever capable of threatening the USA. Moreover, Page 10 of the Bible (Genesis Book 17) shows us that Abraham, the very father of Judaism (and by extension Christianity, Islam and the Baptist Church) circumcised himself at the age of 99 to show the world how to make their Covenant with God and be saved. God clearly tells us, through Abraham, that “the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of the foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut of from his people; he hath broken my covenant” and will be condemned to hell (Genesis Book 17, verse 14). The searing pain that Abraham must have endured, like the pain of Jesus on the cross, is proof that God indeed has righteous powers in both space and time. So there it is -- absolute proof -- from the Bible itself, that God could indeed give Iraq a pre-emptive battering. The miracle of Post Generational Procreation and Abraham’s divine suffering through geriatric circumcision clearly demonstrate this. Muslims must also accept this argument since Adam, Eve, Cain, Seth, and Abraham are as much the founders of Islam as they are the founders of Judaism and Christianity. This also validates the Jewish claim that God promised Palestine to Moses’ descendants. Since the Bible doesn’t mention purchasing the land, or otherwise compensating the homeowners in any other way, it is clear that God wanted Israel to violently seize the land and smother Palestinians in Refugee Camps. Since Palestinians aren’t circumcised of the flesh of the foreskin, it is obvious that they have broken God’s covenant and should be cut off and condemned to suffer in refugee camps. -
Lot's of good people use the Bible as absolute proof of God's Will. The Bible, however, is very weak on logic and reason. This leaves it open to the most fanatical interpretations imaginable -- often resulting abuse of minorities. This Satire is kind of funny if you don't take it too seriously. The Biblical References are from the King James Version of the Bible. As for all the rest of the rant, it seems to be well documented in the mainstream media (CIA agents, Colin Powel's chief aid, the IAEA, Reuters, CNN and the Associated Press.) If you have a different point of view on the issue, you should share it. That is what democracy is all about. =========================== George W Bush seems to have played another astounding trump card with his claim that God told him to invade Iraq http://www.commondreams.org/cgi-bin/print....s05/1007-03.htm. Unless we immediately promote God’s Divine Blessing of the Iraq Invasion, public outrage may oust God’s Holy Messenger G.W. Bush and the neo-con cabal. That damned Downing Street Memo is stirring up problems even though it was delayed and filtered for the British Intelligence. The press is now shamelessly attacking all of Bush and Blair’s reasons for invading Iraq on at least three major fronts. All 3 of these arguments are gloriously trumped by the will of God, through his Holy Messenger George W Bush. (1) Bush demonized Saddam as a man who gassed thousands of Iraqi Kurds at Halabja in 1988 during the Iran-Iraq war. This intelligence was fabricated with justification, but Stephen Pelletiere, the CIA’s senior political analyst on Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war has denigrated Bush with his own official version of the incident. http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0131-08.htm (2) Bush and Blair’s inability to find any WMDs in Iraq 33 months after the invasion is trivial in the eyes of the Lord, but the press is suggesting that most of Bush and Blair’s info was pure fabrication. Before the invasion, Bush’s used of the forged yellowcake document to “prove” Saddam was buying uranium in Niger. The heathen IAEA did not honor the proof, simply because it was forged. http://www.iaea.org/NewsCenter/Transcripts...nn21032004.html. Now Lewis Libby and Karl Rove are being indicted by the heathens for simply trying to kill any future heresy from Joseph Wilson concerning the yellowcake affair – the very yellowcake affair that was concocted to serve the Holy Will of God. How long will it be before the Heathen Press starts doubting that Bush and Cheney were just Libby and Rove’s Holy Flunkies throughout this scandal??? (3) MSNBC has even stated that the link between Iraq and Al Qaeda was deliberately contrived to support the Holy Crusade. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9831216/site/newsweek These heathen naysayers are shamelessly heckling all of Bush’s previous justifications for Invading Iraq – even though George W Bush was clearly not the man in charge. Lawrence Wilkerson, General Powell's chief of staff until January this year, alleged that US policy on Iraq before and after the March 2003 invasion had been hijacked by an alliance between Dick Cheney and Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, fostered by President George Bush's "detached" attitude to details of post-war planning. http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americ...ticle330218.ece Wilkerson even accused Vice-President Dick Cheney of creating the climate in which prisoner abuse could flourish, and implied that he might have committed war crimes. Wilkerson said that Cheney must have sincerely believed that Iraq could be a spawning ground for new terror assaults, because "otherwise I have to declare him a moron, an idiot or a nefarious bastard." http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/11/29/wil...w.ap/index.html This makes it clear that God’s Holy Messenger G.W. Bush was too mindless to be in any way responsible for the atrocities that are taking place in Iraq. Nevertheless the UN is accusing the Bush Administration of abusing its mandate in Iraq – to the point of committing War Crimes. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051204/ts_nm/...n_detentions_dc How though can the Bush Administration be responsible for War Crimes when they are fulfilling the Holy Will of God??? Some people have even gone so far as to state that “the Bush Administration’s unsubstantiated war pretext of preemptive self-defense based on fabricated evidence, is almost identical to Hitler’s unsubstantiated pretext for invading Poland and Czechoslovakia in the 1930s.” Even, Scott Ritter, the UN’s chief weapons inspector in Iraq in the 1990s, has compared Bush and Blair’s “preemptive” war to Nazi Germany’s “preemptive” war. Moreover, Iran-hostage negotiator Herb Cohen is claiming that the Bush Administration negotiates like the Nazis did in 1939. This heresy is reprehensible. Unlike Hitler in the 1930s, Bush and Blair are good Baptists—God’s chosen messengers in this Holy Crusade. Unlike the Nazis, Bush’s Team has so far only been able to plunder the American treasury. Unlike the Nazis, future American Corporate profits in Iraq will be heavily filtered though off-shore tax havens. What is even more shocking is that heathens are saying that it’s ironic that Bush is calling on Americans to make ever more sacrifices in the war on terror, while he and his friends are getting rich off it. They note that Halliburton stock is up 300% since Iraq was invaded in March 2003 and that Cheney’s half million deferred stock options probably went up over 1000%. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=hal&t=5y&l...=l&q=c&p=&a=&c= Heathens also note that Chevron is up 200% since March 2003 and question whether Rice or her friends have any options in Chevron. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=CVX&t=5y&l=off&z=l&q=c&c= United Defense Industries did go from $20 to $75 before being bought out, but thankfully nobody knows how its parent Carlyle Corp is doing because it is private. Whether or not the Bush family is making tens of millions off these deals is irrelevant to the Holy Crusade. Patriotic Americans should be willing to dig deeper to fund the glorious campaign. Bush’s Holy Church has a long rich history of righteously cashing in on congregational donations. Why should the press question the Bush family’s personal collection during the war on Iraq!!! It is clearly irrelevant to compare Cheney and Bush’s post-war finances with the post war finances of our soldiers!!!! It is a sad sacrifice, but we are winning this war. Our 2,200 confirmed American deaths, clearly pales in comparison to more than 30,000 Iraqi civilian deaths that have been gloriously produced in this crusade. Many of the 16,000 seriously injured American soldiers, and 50,000 suffering from battle fatigue, will barely be employable when they return home, but let us not denigrate our Blessed Messenger of God’s personal post-war finances with this trivial concern!!!!!!!!!! (emphasis added) Heathens are questioning how it is possible, with all the billions spent on defense in the last few years, the USA is not any safer from 9/11 style attacks that it was before 9/11. Indeed the 9/11 Commission just gave the Bush Administration a failing "report card" on how counter-terrorist recommendations have been implemented. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051205/ts_nm/...y_commission_dc Some question that the Bush Administration is not really interested in its failing report card or in counterterrorist operations because they do not contain the same lucrative food service contracts for Halliburton that can be obtained in the Iraq war. Some have even been so bold to suggest that the Bush administration is not worried about external terrorist strikes, because the 9/11 debacle was an inside job. Others question whether the Bush administration is deliberately leaving America’s door wide open to terrorists, because another terrorist strike could boost the Bush Administration’s popularity and enable a de-facto Police State to be established in the USA. http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/novem...1105inhands.htm It is true that following 9/11, while civil aviation was grounded over North America, Bush’s own officials allowed over 150 Saudis, including 24 members of the bin Laden family, and members of suspected terrorist network WAMY (World Assembly of Muslim Youth) to fly out of the USA, with very little questioning (righteously hidden in the 9/11 Commission Report at p. 556, n. 25). So far, the Bush administration’s only comment is that this planeload of people was “beyond suspicion”. The flights were after all helping the Bush Administration fulfill the Holy Will of God. Heathens have demanded to know however “What was the rush?!!!! Why was this a desperate priority?!!! Who got paid off?!!!!” It is true that North American airspace was closed for several days after 9/11 and that over a million people were stranded. Helicopter logging operations were shut down in remote forests, and many top level diplomats were not allowed to fly back to their homes and offices in private planes. There was, however, an immediate requirement -- and no security threat – to fly 150 Saudis back to Arabia in jumbo jets. Bin Laden’s family, after all, had business deals to take care of back in Saudi Arabia. They, along with the oil producers in Saudi Arabia, are thankfully profiting handsomely from the 3-fold surge in the price of oil following the Iraq invasion – just as they righteously profited following the 3-fold surge in the price of oil following the first Gulf War. We believe that it is only a matter of time before the press questions whether Bush is continuing to fabricate evidence to support the invasions of other oil-rich countries like Iran and Venezuela (Note that Bush’s accusation of Hugo Chavez rigging the election in Venezuela has already been hotly contested by heathen Jimmy Carter who supervised the event and claimed that it was far more open, honest and transparent than the USA’s federal election in the State of Florida. The intrigue in Iran and Syria may also come to a head) The world is also wondering what other subversive plots the administration has undertaken. The Bush Administration’s attacks on Valerie Plame may reawaken the controversy surrounding the Anthrax letters that were only sent to the liberal media (NBC, ABC, CBS, NY Post, National Enquirer) and the top Senate Democrats (Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy) who were the main obstacles to the Patriot Act and the ensuing invasion of Iraq. Thankfully, the Jehovah’s Witnesses remain George Bush's biggest supporters. They are steadfast in their belief that GW is fulfilling the word of the Bible by bringing about Armageddon and The End of Days. The JWs are fanatically looking forward to the apocalypse, believing, like the Heaven's Gate cult, that a nuclear holocaust will be their ticket to heaven. It will also be a special day for the JWs because that will mark the last day that they have to knock on people's doors and be told that they are too brainwashed to be taken seriously. The rest of the world is meanwhile wondering if orchestrated scare tactics and a lot of greed are all that was needed to completely hijack a government with an annual budget of a trillion dollars. They question why, with all the inconsistencies surrounding 9/11, Bush's team figures that it's in their best self-interest not to co-operate with investigations. They wonder what the Bush cabal is trying to hide and why it treats the public like they are too dumb to need to know what's going on in the world? Some heathens have even gone so far as to suggest that “it would be in America’s best interest if the whole Bush Administration, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Lewis Libby, Karl Rove, Paul Wolfwitz, John Ashcroft, Trent Lott, Richard Perle etc, were put on polygraphs to see if they know of, or were involved in, any conspiracies surrounding the WTC bombings, Anthrax letters or Iraq invasion.” And that “For consistency, other Washington insiders like Zbigniew Brzezinski, Tom Daschle, Patrick Leahy, John Kerry etc should also be put on lie detectors.” These heathens claim that “It’s ludicrous that lowly police officers and CIA agents are rigorously tested with polygraphs, but the directors appointed to control the agencies are considered “untouchable”, “beyond suspicion” and “above the law”– even during global debacles like 9/11, the War on Terror and the War on Iraq” Needless to say, we do not endorse this proposal. Indeed, we believe, that it continues to be in the Bush Administration’s self-interest not to co-operate with any further investigations into the trivial crimes of the WTC bombings, Anthrax Letters and Iraq War. All of this controversy, however, does make it abundantly clear that Bush is righteously bringing the concept of “God’s Will” into the picture. Anyone who questions God’s divine wrath in the Iraq war, exercised through His Holy Messenger George Bush, casts unwarranted doubt on both the Holy Church and on the Holy Crusade. It seems, by extension, that any disrespectful comments could be endangering the troops – an act that we believe is utterly reprehensible. The troops’ safety, understandably, is our highest priority. They will be needed to Fulfill God’s Will of invading Syria, Iran and Venezuela, to secure the world’s oil for the benefit of the friends of our righteous leader George W. Bush. Only by invading Syria, Iran and Venezuela will we be able to keep the troops safely out of harms way. Heathens are questioning what people would think if China invaded Iraq, Iran or Venezuela in the interest of deposing selfish leaders and securing long term resource contracts. They reason that the Bush Administration’s interest in these oil rich countries is similarly selfish and despicable. This is intolerable!!!! (emphasis added) Bush clearly warned from the outset that people are either joyous supporters of His Holy Crusade or they are, BY DEFINITION, supporters of the terrorists. We feel that any more controversy surrounding the crusade will be detrimental to our beloved Messenger of God G.W. Bush. For this reason we have crafted this “Bush Pledge of Allegiance” Are Our Souls United? OurSouls are United! OurSouls are United! OurSouls Love George Bush! OurSouls Love George Bush! OurSouls Support George Bush! OurSouls Support George Bush! OurSouls Trust George Bush! OurSouls Trust George Bush! OurSouls do not question the Bush Administration. OurSouls do not doubt the Bush Administration. OurSouls have absolute blind faith in the Bush Administration. Oursouls joyously Support the Holy Crusade! Oursouls joyously make sacrifices for the Holy Crusade! Note the genius behind this pledge is that it contains a hidden loyalty test. Anyone who is not completely loyal to the Bush Administration will tend to slur some of the words together. The finely tuned ears of the Bush clergy will be able to identify these traitors when they ever so subtly sing : Are Our Souls United? Arseholes are United! Arseholes are United! Arseholes Love George Bush! Arseholes Love George Bush! Arseholes Support George Bush! Arseholes Support George Bush! Arseholes Trust George Bush! Arseholes Trust George Bush! Arseholes do not question the Bush Administration. Arseholes do not doubt the Bush Administration. Arseholes have absolute blind faith in the Bush Administration. Arseholes joyously Support the Holy Crusade! Arseholes joyously make sacrifices for the Holy Crusade! We feel that this pledge must be instituted world wide as soon as possible in order that all traitors and terrorists can be identified and eliminated in a timely matter. In God we Trust Happy New Year G W

Last week a kid challenged me to say one thing the Canadian Government has done for him. His chronic apathy signaled that no answer was possible. I laughed my head off. We have great lives here in Canada. Most of us have decent salaries, and our biggest problems include deciding what to do with our free time. This, to a degree, is a direct result of our Government. Just look at the Blue Pages to see all the government services we take for granted: Health Care, Education, Highways, Clean Air, Rivers and Lakes, Parks, Access to crown land, Tourism, RCMP, Disaster Relief, International Charity, Welfare, Employment Agencies..... The Government also regulates our water quality, food quality, electricity, gas, phone and internet etc..... Government Laws guarantee free speech, civil rights, open debates on all legislation, an independent media, and access to most other products and services we consume. The Canadian Government has a great international image that lets us travel easily and happily almost everywhere in the world. One of the only places we can't travel (since March 2003) is Iraq. No matter how much we complain about our government, we don't have to look very far to find Governments that are worse. Countries like Brazil and Argentina are loaded with resources and have a much better climate than Canada, yet many of their citizens are dirt poor -- largely because of the instability caused by corruption in past governments. That brings up a really fundament point in politics. One really big mistake can destroy years of progress. A few bombs can destroy your life's work. Don't take our federal government too lightly, or think we need a radical policy change, or a Canadian Inquisition to make things better. Beefing up security is probably a good thing though. It's petty to complain about needing a passport to cross the US border. I was sick on 9/11 when the media started accusing the terrorists of sneaking into the USA from Canada. It was a big relief, but still sick, that the 9/11 terrorists turned out to be trained (flight schools, karate etc..) in the USA. Bin Laden and Mohamed Atta were even on the USA payroll at one time. I don't think our government is all that bad -- even though lots of crooks see it as a place to get easy money. It's great that we have a strong political opposition and a strong public conscience to prevent pork barreling, corruption and waste. Despite any waste, the Liberals are doing a great job paying down Canada's debt. (Conservatives by contrast have a terrible record of skyrocketing deficits) We have got lots to be proud of so be grateful that you live in Canada. It's an amazing country, and we are doing just fine.

Wellandboy, Scriblett and Wilbur should get something useful to say before they clog up this board. Maybe Swartzenegger was right and 95% of the people are too stupid to think and need to be told what to do. The neo-con crowd has a tradition of blind faith and unquestioning obedience. They must be the guys he was talking about.

That's an illusion tml12. How is having a bunch of useless American missiles on Canadian soil protecting our sovereignty???? At best they would ensure that Canada becomes a prime target in any nuclear war. According to 22-year CIA veteran Michael Scheuer, there are fewer CIA al-Qaeda experts today than there were on 2001/09/11 (The Atlantic, Dec 2004, pg 52). Many Nobel-laureate physicists have declared that the design is incapable of working effectively (much like trying to knock down a missile with a frisbee) Even if the system did work as hoped, it would be much easier to foil it with counter-measures than to build and guide an initial ballistic missile.

I don't know anybody who is anti-American, but neo-con fanatics want us to think that it's anti-American to say anything bad about any member of their government. Look at all the politician bashing on this forum. By that definition, everybody here is anti-Canadian. The fact that people are standing up to political decisions shows that they have faith that their countries can become better. You are right though that people should be providing creative solutions to problems, instead of just mud-slinging. The worst thing to do is to take a fanatical-reactionary approach where you end up throwing out the baby with the bath water.

Those who would sacrifice essential liberties for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin Don't think you are going to conceal thoughts by concealing evidence that they ever existed. Dwight D. Eisenhower, speech at Dartmouth College, June 14, 1953 Though force can protect in emergency, only justice, fairness, consideration and co-operation can finally lead men to the dawn of eternal peace. Dwight D. Eisenhower I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it. Dwight D. Eisenhower I would rather try to persuade a man to go along, because once I have persuaded him he will stick. If I scare him, he will stay just as long as he is scared, and then he is gone. Dwight D. Eisenhower I don't agree with you TML12. The Liberal Party isn't the problem even though lots of crooks see the federal governement as place to get easy money. The same guys will be infiltrating the Conservatives government. Bill Clinton got kicked out because of Conservatives disgust over a blowjob. That ended 8 years of amazing prosperity for Americans. Bush has now taken the lead, and created such a huge debt that people wonder how it can be repaid. The US$ has devalued 30% in the process. The Liberals have to clean up their act but, like I said, Harper would have cost taxpayers much more (Iraq war, missile pseudo-defence) than any waste and corruption under the Liberal government. If you think missile pseudo-defence is a good plan, read my next post.

That doesn't say anything for Harper wellandboy Why Harper was dumbstruck a few weeks ago when asked if he loved Canada? How long do you think it would take for Harper to pledge his devotion to the USA? As he did in the past with his neo-con pals, Harper could well, for the interest of padding trade relations with the USA, decide that Candada should back the USA on any of their future Wars (Iran, Syria and Venezuela are on Bush's hit list). Stephen Harper’s Conservatives, after all, were infuriated that Jean Cretien wouldn’t let Canadian Soldiers die “shoulder to shoulder” with our neighbors over Iraq’s (non-existent) weapon’s of mass destruction. Canadian losses in Iraq would have far exceeded any losses in the sponsorship scandal. Harper was also furious that Canada didn’t buy into a missile defense shield-Star Wars project that seems, at best, a titanic waste of money and, more realistically, a chilling inducement for worldwide nuclear proliferation. You should consider why a far-right conservative like Ralph Klein would comment that Stephen Harper may be viewed as “too far right”; or why a long-term conservative leader like Joe Clark would say that he supoorts the Liberals because you don't know what you are getting with Stephen Harper. America has clearly become unbalanced, when media giants like FOX NEWS label the biggest capitalists in the world as “left-wing” if they don’t pledge unquestioning blind allegiance to Cheney and Bush’s Administration. The American fanatical-right (aka neo-fascist-conservatives) are trying to create a culture of double-think, where people who question the Iraq War are left-wing traitors who are endangering the troops. Stunningly, zealots who want to expand the crusade to Syria, Iran and Venezuela are supposedly keeping the troops safely out of harms way.

Can you believe that these guys at the Free Dominion. blocked my access to their forum? It only took 5 minutes. What a bunch of Twisted Double-Think Fascists. http://www.freedominion.ca/phpBB2/viewtopi...p=604951#604951 I think this is a sign of things to come if fanatics like Harper get in power. It's funny that all the neo-cons on this site are slinging mud at the liberals for wasting tax dollars. Martin has payed down the debt 8 years in a row. If Harper is elected he will follow Bush's lead in driving the country to the brink of bankruptcy (Like Mulroney did before him) Harper's War in Iraq and Missile pseudo-Defence would have cost Canada far more than any waste in Martin's govenment. It is anybody's guess what other useless government spending Harper would have promoted. Harper has no record of anything other than supporting neo-fascist-conservative fanaticism -- just like his buddies Richard Perle and Paul Wolfwitz mentioned at the top of this article. That's probably why the neo-con election campaign seems to be soley focused on slamming the Liberals.
