  1. True of lead acid batteries but there are better options such as absorbed glass mat which are expensive but can last up to 20 years. Still a DC system is not particularly efficient and only possible on a small scale. Too bad it's the only way to store electricity.
  2. Lasqueti Island in Georgia Strait has a population of around 400 and no services. Most of the people there use their own wind and water powered generating systems. As you say power can only be stored in DC batteries and an inverter is needed to convert to 110V AC. It can be done but the average person would have to drastically reduce consumption for it to work.
  3. Further more, also in the spirit of separating state and religion, there will be no more references to God, hymns or prayers at Remembrance Day ceremonies. All references to and symbols of religion (crosses, Stars of David etc) will be removed from all government cemeteries including Canadian war cemeteries.
  4. In the spirit of separating state and religion, the statutory holidays of Christmas, Boxing Day, Good Friday and Thanksgiving, as well as Easter Monday and Saint Jean-Baptiste Day in Quebec, must immediately be removed from the calender. In the spirit of never offending anyone for any reason, government participation in any events that might prove offensive to parts of our society such as Santa Clause and Gay Pride parades shall immediately cease. As the courts have declared that trees are Christians, all trees on government property must immediately be destroyed.
  5. It's pretty outlandish. The fact that Venus is about 40 million killometers closer to the sun is probably a much better explanation. My guess is that would have a much greater effect on the earths temperature than anything we humans could spew into the atmosphere.
  6. I was listening to the leader of a Canadian Muslim organization on the radio. Among other things he said. 1. He was originally from Pakistan and Christmas trees were common there. It was a good time enjoyed by all, not just Christians. 2. Anyone who is offended by someone else's happiness (this judge included) needs to see a shrink. 3. The idea that the politically correct (this judge included) feel that they are in a position to dictate what offends him, is pure arrogance.
  7. Whether it is justified or not, it is hardly a surprise. Why would they want the aggravation? It's their country and they can ban whoever they want. Anyone of us could be banned tomorrow and they don't have to give a reason.
  8. Would you say that Winston Churchill's floor-crossing switch from the Conservatives to the Liberals in 1904 confirmed "that he never ever was a conservative"? A few years later he came to his senses, rejoined the Conservatives and stayed there for the rest of his life.
  9. I find this whole subject ironic for a country that espouses institutional multiculturalism. I guess it has it's limits. Much like politicians.
  10. Poor judge? Annoying moron is more like it. If she is offended by Christmas trees, others may be offended by seeing the star of david in public places. Let's get rid of both or get the judge have her head checked. I'm not Christian and I quite like Christmas trees. Ya, get her to have her head checked. I'm not a Christian either but at least I know a Christmas tree has as much to with Christianity as Santa Claus and Rudolph. What are the educational requirements to be a judge these days.
  11. Similar in Norway according to what guys from there have told me. Grenades to.
  12. I think they're busy at the moment. They're all out filling up jerry cans and forty five gallon drums with gasoline. Either that or they haven't been able to find one.
  13. This person is obviously not qualfied to judge what is and what is not a Christian symbol.
  14. Deleted
  15. Sounds fair but what powers would they have?
  16. One problem is the PM gets to pick and choose which votes will be confidence votes. Other than such things as the budget, no votes should be confidence votes. MP's should be convinced they are voting for the right thing, not bullied into it.
  17. Someone from Quebec please enlighten me. Does the government actually have a "Green Plan" yet that goes beyond increasing taxes?
  18. My God August, I think you've got it. Who does Poly really work for?
  19. Population per MP by Province Alberta 59,000 BC 61,000 Manitoba 42,000 New Brunswick 38,000 Newfoundland 37,000 Nova Scotia 42,000 Ontario 60,000 PEI 17,000 Quebec 51,000 Sask 45,000 Nowhere in our system do we have either and BC comes out short changed the most in both houses.
  20. On second thought, abolishing it would amount to equality so that is probably a non starter as well.
  21. I agree. This is not a compromise. It lacks legitimacy as it still requires a prime minister approval. Getting rid of it probably is better policy for Canadians. That would require a change to the Constitution. There is no way that Provinces with large numbers of Senators per capita are going to agree to equality. Harper should sound out the Premiers to see if he could get enough support to abolish it. If not, this is about all that can be done.
  22. Population per Senator by Province Alberta 587,000 BC 709,000 Manitoba 196,000 New Brunswick 83,000 Newfoundland 103,000 Nova Scotia 133,000 Ontario 597,000 PEI 46,000 Quebec 345,000 Sask. 165,000 What a joke. Equal representation or dump it, one or the other.
  23. Sure, but Chretien's own party ultimately gave him the boot. I don't see much evidence that CPC MPs have any control over Harper. How long was he there before they did? Harpers been PM for less than a year. Doesn't matter because in our system they just pick another dictator.
  24. So your against Harper ruling as a king, but you don't deem it necessary to tell us how to reform the PMO, so the MP's have the power instead of the PMO. All this is, is another rant against Harper, which once again doesn't make sense because in a minority goverment, the PM can be toppled at any time. If Harper were running the government like a "King" I'm sure the government would have fallen by now. As in the English civil war the MP's will have to take power. The PMO is not going to give it to them. Until we grow enough MP's with the balls to tell the party leaders that they are the elected representatives of the people and that he is just another one of them, it ain't going to happen. All that is required is that our MP's assume their democratic responsibilities to the people who elected them.
  25. He gave Dubya 1 billion? Yes - lumber. But that's not the point here. The point is that the Conservatives can complain all they want about what the Liberals didn't do but they aren't doing anything either. The Conservatives are running the government and they are responsible for what gets done or not done. So the Liberals were going to finance their infrastucture program with the money they got back from softwood duties.
