  1. I'm guessing you didn't particularly like Chretien speaking either but he kept winning elections.
  2. Neither do I and obviously neither does Harper, repeating the same old lie often enough doesn't make it the truth. What evidence do you have that Harper opposes hate crimes legislation based on race, ethnicity or religion? Yawn....zzzzzzzz Oh, that evidence....

  4. Politically it made no sense for Harper to vote against the legislation making it a hate crime to advocate the killing of homosexuals. Harper has a history of politically nonsensical behaviour. It makes perfect sense to me and I agree with it for the reason stated in my last post. I believe that persons who commit violence against homosexuals because of their sexual orientation should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I just don't believe they warrant a special law with their name on it and I don't believe it advances their acceptance into mainstream society. What about hate crimes legislation based on race, ethnicity or religion? Harper favours such legislation.
  5. I look forward to the debates just as I looked forward to the Chretien/Stockwell Day debates. I anticipate Dion's accent and English skills will hurt him as much as it did Chretien.
  6. "It suggested the Liberals had the support of 35 per cent of respondents while the Tories were at 31 per cent, the NDP was at 12 per cent and the Green party was at 10 per cent. " You know gee.. i wonder who would back a Liberal with dual citizenship despite the CPC's stellar job... hmm.. Apparently most Canadians don't view Harper's performance as "stellar" or he'd not be in second place to a Liberal with dual citizenship.

  8. Harper does not have to. Diuseppe will. You're right. Given how low Harper is in the polls in Quebec, Dion is now a greater threat to Duceppe than Harper...at least in Quebec.
  9. So Dion's position has changed. Has Harper's position changed that advocating and promoting the killing of homosexuals is not a hate crime, or do you suppose he will he always feel that way? Promoting the death of anyone is crime, what's your beef? My beef is that Harper voted against making it a hate crime to promote or advocate the killing of homosexuals. The legislation passed because the Liberals, NDP and BQ voted for the legislation. Harper voted against it.
  10. There's a cause and effect reason for everything. Yes, there is a cause and effect for everything. French physicians make about 55,000 per year. Source: http://ezraklein.typepad.com/blog/2005/04/...h_care_fra.html But that article is 10 years old 2005?
  11. The legislation which Harper voted against was legislation that made it a hate crime to advocate or promote the killing of homosexuals. We already have legislation which makes it a hate crime to advocate or promote the killing of people of different races. Harper has no problem with that legislation. If a man of another race molests your child and you assault him, do you think that you would be accused of a hate crime? We also have legislation which makes it a hate crime to advocate or promote the killing of people of different religions. Harper has no problem with that legislation. If a man of another religion molests your child and you assault him, do you think that you would be accused of a hate crime? Hate crime legislation was not put in place to protect pedophiles no matter what the race, religion or sexual orientation of the pedophile. And if you sincerely believe that hate crimes legislation will protect pedophiles, you should argue against ALL hate crimes legislation whether it pertains to race, religion or sexual orientation. But Harper only opposes it for sexual orientation. He favours it for race and religion.
  12. He hasn't really cited any evidence of what he believes. And he ignores data on the number of Canadian physicians returning from the US and ignores data on lower physician salaries on Europe.

  15. Yah that is a link to nothing. Sorry. The link expired minutes after I posted it. It was a Decima poll released today. Maybe this link will work: http://www.edmontonsun.com/News/Canada/200...06/2654110.html
  16. In other words, you don't believe the conclusions even though you haven't seen the details...
  17. Unfortunately he had too much time on his hands...more than any of us on this board it seems.

  19. Ontario federal election results: 1993 Election Liberal-98 Reform-1 1997 Election Liberal-101 PC-1 Oth-1 2000 Election Liberal-100 CA-2 NDP-1 Norman, once again you have shown to be completely ignorant when you start spouting off your nonsense. It was only recently that we had two Liberal MP's, both were voted out because Paul Martin screwed up. Especially when Paul Martin failed to erase the so called democratic deficit, and by promising to get rid of The Notwithstanding Clause. Your own data refute your point. Can you name one province in Canada other than Alberta which elected only MPs from one party in 2006? Or do you not understand the question? And of course Vancouver and Toronto both elected NDP and Liberal MPs. But Alberta, sheep-like, elected only Conservative MPs in 2006.
  20. What is the number leaving now? Good question. Large numbers of Canadian physicians who moved to the US are now returning to Canada. In 2004, more returned to Canada than left for the US. The Canadian Institute for Health Information tracks the numbers. Here are some data: http://www.chsrf.ca/mythbusters/pdf/myth19_e.pdf
  21. I wonder if we will hear more complaints about the size of the test sample. Either that or they'll attempt to explain it away as a post-convention blip. But the trend actually started well before the convention.
  22. It might not be the last vote on it. I can't imagine any Conservative liking it. I think they'll let it die. Even Harper, who pointlessly voted against making it a hate crime to advocate or promote the killing of homosexuals, seems to have decided not to re-open that issue. So-cons realize that their only chance at reversing any current legislation is to pretend that Harper is not a so-con and hope that this will improve his chances of winning a majority government. But with Dion as Liberal leader, even a Conservative minority has become elusive to Harper. The only hope for Cons is a new leader, something which Dion is unprepared for.
  23. Kind of like Toronto....... Actually Toronto has three NDP MPs. Vancouver has both Liberal and NDP MPs. But only Alberta votes sheep-like for one party. Is there any other province in Canada where all MPs come from one party?
