You forgot to mention that it is also full of half truths and lies. The article fails to mention that there are many Muslim sects just like there are many Christian sects. I would hate to be judged by the actions and values of Christian fundamentalists just as amny of my Islamic friends would like to be judged on the behaviour and morals of their fellow Muslims. It is time for calmer heads to prevail and not for knee jerk reactions. I never thought that I would say this but I think it's time for Toronto to start using closed circuit cameras on their streets. When I was in England the last time I was comfortable with hte number of cameras they have, mind you they are well marked so you know that they are there. I think they are a good deterant.

Great post. Also may I remind all of you reactionaries that the law concering the right of 14 yr olds to have sex is nothing NEW. It is only in the past couple of generations that people have started to get married at a later age. Methinks many of you have been looking at isolated cases and treating them as everyday occurrences, thus becoming a victim of the media. Look at the actual occurrences of the crimes you mention then think about it. It is FAR more dangerous for your kids to ride in a car but do you think twice about driving them somewhere? The CPC certainly does NOT reflect my family values. I am not prepared to have yet Another debate about same sex marriage, abortion or any of the issues where Canada has entered into the 21 century.

I suggest you donate some of your time and work in one of those places for a month or so and you will see that the safety net has eroded. leaving many people at risk. Many of the people we have as clients are incapable of working at even the most menial jobs. You forgot to include those with mental and physical afflictions. Also those who are single parents who can't afford daycare for their children as there are too few places for them. The safety net, often doesn't cover basic monthly expenses. Some of our clients spend over 90% of their income on housing which leaves VERY little for necessities. Example, one woman pays $450.00 in rent which leaves her less than $100.00 for her other expenses. Last time I checked there is no way that you can survive on that little and have any quality of life. There are very few geared to income dwellings so those who are childless are stuck finding accomodation on the free market. With winter coming I am doing my usual scrambling to get donations of used warm clothing for our clients. #3 The reference to Mikey's father shows the irony of the situation. He didn't want his father to have to put up with pressure when he was ill unlike the ordinary dying patients in this province. As said so eliquently by a former poster, when Mikey cut funding for hospitals the nursing staff suffered from massive cuts. Those who are still working as nurses spend a lot of their time with paper work and not enough time doing that for which they were really trained. When sophisticated and expensive diagnostic equipment enters the market many hospitals can't afford to purchase it or enough of it so waiting lists grow longer. This is not the time to cut hospital budgets. I could go on but I'm sure you will come back with some rhetoric that will blame the victim as opposed to the perpitrator.

After reading this thread and having my posts ignored I have finally realised that Canadians are Xenophobic. Very few of you realise that the vast majority of immigrants are very well educated but are not given a chance because we are viewd as being unworthy of joining your clique. No wonder I don't choose to become a citizen. You are all imigrants unless you are a native so get over it!

What on earth is wrong with teaching both theories? If ID is so wrong then there is nothing to fear by presenting it. Couldn't there be ID behind evolution? Please find that magazine article because it contradicts everything I have read. Never the less, it is not only doctors from third world countries that have problems with licensing. All foreign doctors have to spend years and thousands of dollars to prove that they know what they are doing. This includes doctors from the UK, Germany, France and other non-third world countries. Being trained in this country doesn't always mean that you are better trained than elsewhere. Being born in this country doesn't mean you are more intelligent than people from the rest of the world.

Canada would not be where we are today without the sweat and toil of immigrats. Other than Aboriginal issues I'd say that on the whole immigrants have made this place a pretty good country. Please don't paint all imigrants as being stupid, uneducated, and unable to communicate in English or French. I am an immigrant and know better. The problem with the system is that foreign trained professionals are treated as if they know nothing and have to devote years and thousands of dollars taking tests to prove that their skills are useful. That is why Toronto has the most educated educated taxi drivers in the country. Immigrants come here hoping to practice their skills only to have doors slammed in their faces.

The scary part of the Conservative party is that many of their members are from the original Aliance party. They are a stranger than the Liberals. You are forgetting the first principle of scientific thinking which is KEEP AN OPEN MIND. You are putting too much faith in science. Many scientific theories work most of the time but there are often exceptions that don't fit in. In other words, science is the modern humans' way of trying to figure out something that none of us truly understand. It far from being an exacting art as there are huge gaps in our knowledge. Even Stephen Hawkin has changed his mind on theories that he once espoused. If you can offer me solid proof that ID does not exist then I will retract everything I have said but until then I will adhere to the first rule of scientific thinking.

If there is a prenup stating that my assets prior to a marriage would go to somebody other than a spouse then there would be no problem with the distribution of property at the time of death. Any party can contest a will if they think they are being treated unfairly but I don't need to worry about that because I will be dead.

I believe in the drive clean programme but the of the smog we get in southern Ontario comes from our good neighbour to the south. Our air won't get any cleaner until our southern neighbours adopt the same policies as we have.

I have read through all 21 pages of this tread and have yet to read anything that convinced me that "Uncle Mikey" did what he had to. He demolished the nursing profession, cut funding to hospitals, tried to skrew teachers, removed the social safety net and created a huge deficit. Every time I have to wait longer than 6 weeks to see a specialist I thank "Uncle Mike" for his "right" thinking. Every time I am denied long term disability because I am unable to work I thank "Uncle Mikey." I have nothing but contempt for the man. I will never forget his reaction when it was pointed out that his father played a part in the defrauding of the Dionne quints of some of their money. He whined that it was unfair to put pressure on a man who was sick with cancer blah, blah, blah. He did exactly the same thing to many people in this province. Funny how things change when the shoe is on the other foot.
