I thought that that would do the opposite, that drivers would start looking at replacing their gas guzzlers. I couldn't help but notice that none of the Mexican plants are being affected. I also couldn't help but notice that the phrase `Up in the Air' appeared several times in the article. Could our upcomming election have anything to do with that? GO STEPHEN GO! GO STEPHEN GO!

Are Jews fleeing French anti-semitism?
Biblio Bibuli replied to Argus's topic in The Rest of the World
Yes they are right to leave France, but unfortunately because of the French language many of them are immigrating to Quebec. Bad move. French Canadians have always been anti-semetic & presently still seem to identify with what they perceive to be "da liddle guy"...which to them are the Arabs, not the educated Jews. They would do better to try & learn another language & immigrate to Israel, the US or the ROC. They won't be welcomed in Quebeciraq. -
My head's been thumping ever since I found out who won. It took the National Post newspaper five weeks and 12 pages of material to build up readers interest in the 'Beautiful Minds' competition, and to see all that effort go to waste just because some idiot was allowed to vote thousands of times for the only crackpot in this elite group is sad. Very sad. But I'm sure that the NP does not strive to appeal to the lowest strata of the IQ spectrum, so I fully expect them come out with a BIG apology and a BIG explanation in tomorrow's paper. I can't wait!

True enough I could have put them in, <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If ever the undeniable truth that the major reason for the huge spike in COPD around the globe is not tobacco but the air we breathe comes out, the Green Party will be the one to reckon with. So you should have put them in. Just in case. YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO OPTIMISTIC!

I'm now sitting on pins and needles out here in Lotusland. In about 17 hours I will hear a thump at my door, and I'll run like a maniac to retrieve my National Post newspaper to see who has won. If any of you who live east of here, and thus hear the the beautiful sound of the NP landing at your door sooner then I do, I hope you will post the results here pronto ..... 17 hours is an awfully long time.

45 MINUTES TO GO! TICK TOCK .. TICK TOCK !!!

PR : My deductive logic may not be as sharp as that of Sherlock Holmes', but even I can see that you haven't voted yet. How? It's elementary, Pocket Rocket. The only votes that were cast thus far are for giving something, be it money, apology, or both. And since you're saying that there's no use giving something if there's no one to collect ....... hmmm, GO AND VOTE YOUNG MAN !!!! http://www.canada.com/national/nationalpos...tuals/vote.html Thanks!
-
Tick tock .. tick tock .. tick tock .. tick tock .. tick tock .... The National Post's voting booths close in two hours, so if you are going to vote you had better do it quickly. And if you agree with this statement .... "When democracies fight terrorism, they are defending the proposition that their political life should be free of violence. But defeating terror requires violence. It may also require coercion, deception, secrecy and violation of rights. Liberal societies cannot be defended by herbivores. We need carnivores to save us." .... vote for Michael Ignatieff!

That'll teach him not to fool around with St. Peter. http://www.canada.com/national/nationalpos...4d-296be2a01ab0 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wonder if either one, Conrad Black or Peter C. Newman, will be a late scratch. http://www.canada.com/national/nationalpos...tuals/vote.html Maybe both! I'll keep an eye on it and let you know.

And here are the comlete results, in the exact order they came in. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/topintellectuals.html Something to consider before you make your wager here ... Naomi Klein came in in 11th spot, beating Michael Ignatieff handily. He placed 37th. And twice as many people bet on her to win. But Salmon Rushdie beat Naomi, by a nose, so wach out for our Muslim entry, Irshad Manji, she could be an upsetter. Good luck!

I've peeked at that internationaly telacast race that Yodler mentioned, and there I saw that Ignatieff and Klein are the only Canadians that qualified for that huge and prestigious race. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You don't believe me? Peek for yourself. http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=3249 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Here are the results of that global race. http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/10/18/0...2.77esbn1j.html http://www.prospect-magazine.co.uk/article...ils.php?id=7078 Lefties must be celebrating. BTW - The highest placed female intellectual was Naomi Klein. So don't forget her in your trifecta. BTW 2 - I bet a bundle on Vaclav Havel to show, but he came in fourth. Que sera sera, I guess. BTW 3 - Chomski took the honors.

Don't you wish thay gave us a hint how the voting's going? I took a flier on that Ignatieff guy, btw.

20,000 Canadians who fought in Vietnam War...
Biblio Bibuli replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
BD, your definition is that we should honour anyone who fights for our government whereas ceemus' definition is that if the Canadian government has declared war, then we should honour any Canadian who fights that war. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought that what Black Dog meant was that the countries that foreign men came to fight for ought to do the honouring and remembering. Not their country of origin. Makes sense to me. -

I remember Joe Who's musings in the fall of 1979 about going to Afghanistan and straightening out those Russians. I bet Pierre Trudeau wagged his finger at him over that. -

I don't see how the Korean armed conflict was any more Canada'a war than the Vietnam armed conflict. Weren't they both very similiar in nature? Beats me why we joined the one but not the other ... maybe the chubby cheeked Koreans were more appealing to us than the scrawny Vietnamese, who knows? Both of these conflicts were part of the so-called "Cold War", and whether Canadian men were forced into it by their Government, or took the initiative themselves and helped the American side by volunteering, makes no difference to me, ALL of these courageous people are Cold War heroes and worth remembering. SHAME ON CANADA! -

Whether I was a Canadian fighting in Vietnam or a Russian fighting in Afghanistan or a Czech slugging it out on MLW, I wouldn't care if I were honored at some ceremony. What I would care about is if YOU respect me for it. Come on PocketRocket, make my day. -

Yodler's been yodelling in my ear to translate the above ever since I put it out here hours ago. "For his unilingual friends", he says. I'm probably talking to thin air, but here it is: "The best is the enemy of the good." What got him yanked this time? -

If you asked a question about how Canadians feel about the Americans winning ANY international conflict, say 35 years ago, you would have heard nothing but thunderous applause and RAH RAH RAHS for the Americans. But those were the days when both, Canada and the U.S., were the best places on the face of this Earth to live. And though Canada is still a good place to live, it has slipped compared to the Americans. Looking at what Frank Voltaire said .... "Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien." ... I don't blame the weak for rebelling & whining. -

So, who is going to place? Who is going to show? Are you going to bet a trifecta? Yodler's ging to wheel Manji, Manning and Krauthammer, or so he says. I've peeked at that internationaly telacast race that Yodler mentioned, and there I saw that Ignatieff and Klein are the only Canadians that qualified for that huge and prestigious race. One has to be out of their minds to leave them out here, I figure. Don't you think? So anyway, I've decided to wheel Preston, Michael and Manji. Manji because she'll make it pay. Two dollar tickets, that's all.

Preston Manning Charles Krauthammer Michael Ignatieff Irshad Manji Mark Steyn Naomi Klein That's MY short list. Can you make your choice...PLEASE!!!
