Tories defend interests of Quebec nationalists: PM
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think a government has the right to advance equality of linguistic rights simply because French Quebec refused to assimilate utilizing the national English language of Canada. It was a federal scam to begin with as the English language never had to be made an 'official language' as it was already Canada's national language. Language is the buisness of Canadian citizens and not government. Only one province in Canada (New Brunswick) accepted the federal notion and promotion that provinces be 'officially bilingual'. This means 'government propagated bilingualism and the French language should have ended at that point as a FAILURE, because no province wanted it. But that is not the case due to dysfunctional politics basically by a national federal party, the Liberals, being dominated with Quebec MP's and Quebec PM,s pursued further linguistic attemps trying to force Quebec ideologies and the French language on the ROC. Despite TWO further FAILED federal attempts to force Quebec to be labelled officially a 'distinct society' or or a province with 'special status' federal linguistic meddling continued. Then Trudeau came along with a Charter forcing Canadians to accept French as an 'official language'. Although this charter was ratified by provincial premiers I doubt they knew what they were signing at the time nor did not know what the corrupt ramifications would be in the future. This is why the charter should be scrapped. Canadians never agreed to your version of equality. -

You said: "No surprise there. He also seems to be unaware that one part of the constitution can't be used to declare another part as unconstitutional. " I am not claiming that a PM can simply declare any one part as being unconstitutional but the entire constitution itself as a corrupt and unconstitutional document. I never made that claim. I simply said I have heard by way of (political discussions) that a PM can do this. And obviously you can not show me anywhere that a PM cannot do this. -

It is not only Quebecers and their foereign French language that have rights in this country. -

We are NOT talking about amending the Constitution Act, 1982. We are talking about TOTALLY SCRAPPING it as being unconstitutional. Show me where it says a PM does not have the power to do this? -

All Canadians ALWAYS had the same rights. Blame yourself if you refuse to freely assimilate yourself, like the rest of us did, to our inheirted national English language. -

When was it freely detirmined by referendum that language rights outside of our inherited British English language that foreign languages are a Charter right? -

'Official Languages'-Especially Sec. 16-3..."Nothing in this Charter limits the authority of Parliament or a lagislature to advance the equality of the status or use of English and French". It was never detirmined that outside of the Trudeau Charter that the french language of Quebec has the right to be propagated in the manner. It has creating for example a French society within our federal government overiding the free flowing national English language. There are VIRTUALLY no democratic checks and balances to counteract the linguistic corrupt propagtion of the French language in government which as spread to provinces outside of federal jurisdiction. -

Yes, I agree that there are variations of the English and French language. So what? -

Our constitution was given to us by the British. The English language has been the common and commercial language of the large majority of Canadians since that time. Our head of State is the Queen. Canada is an EXTENSION of the U.K. English is NOT a foreign language in Canada. -

To bad you don't know that the word NATIONAL means COMMON TO THE COUNTRY. The English language is common to the country of Canada. The French language is common to the PROVINCE of Quebec. There, I fixed it for you. -

And this is what makes the Constitution Act a JOKE. I have heard that a PM (with courage) has the power and can simply label the Constitution Act 1982 as being UNCONSTITUTONAL and simply scrap it. "A better understanding where the average Canadian stands on these types of issues" is 'commie' talk in my book. Plain and simple, tax paying Canadians have been denied the democratic initatives that would allow them to officially participate in a national referendum relating to these issues. -

I will try again. French is the national language of France. English is the national language of Canada. The minority French language in Canada is the national language of France. This makes French a foreign language in Canada as it is NOT the national language of Canada. The obvious confusion lies with the fact that it is ONLY the federal government that has declared the languages English and the language French the 'official languages' of Canada with certain federal entitlements. This has nothing to do with the FACT French is a foreign language. And you have a skewed idea of reality. -

Not the entire constitution but the Constitution Act 1982 should be scrapped or rewritten to allow Canadian citizens to decide by referendum on just who (if any at all) receives special status in their country relating to culture. -

Right. So answer the question. Does that include forcing the Quebec Act 1774, on the ROC? -

Trudeau did not want Quebec to be seen as something 'special' but rather seen as 'deserving' and followed that up by directly writing it into the constitution. -

Could be. Current estimates have it that the world can only support 2-billion people living a U.S. lifestyle. Current world population is about 6.6-billion people. Why encourage further population growth with new found wealth? What will happen to countries like China (population wise) who are experiencing a more prosperous lifestyle incorporating capitalism? What will this do to our current pollution and energy crisis along with inevitable further conflicts? -

Oh, you mean the other Quebec nationalist, like you. That is nothing new with Quebec nationalist. They laugh at any form of authority dictated by federalist or Canadians who know Canada is a country. It matters NOT. There is nothing in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms that dictates or is entrenched in the constitution that says Quebec is a 'distinct society' or gives Quebec 'special status' using that type of terminology. That is what I was making reference to. It was I that brought up the Charter, in part a document that constitues a travestiy of justice. Very sad but very laughable in how this country is so dysfunctional and corrupt. There was no public referendum but rather that decision was based on representation of the citizens of Canada by the provinces. Yes, I agree this is not a true referendum. This is truly false and corrupt representation no matter how you look at it bypassing the citizens of Canada. But regardless the provinces did NOT allow the Meech Lake Accord to become law. http://www.rhondaparkinson.com/meech-lake-accord.htm See above answer. There are no such words that give a province 'special status'. That is what makes the Charter so CORRUPT. Trudeau just went ahead and gave Quebec special 'charter' status. -

It is not Canada's native language. This fact makes French a foreign language to the users of the commercial English language in Canada and coast to coast in the U.S. Than how about Russian? You seem to know the game rules of playing Russian. It is not the spoken or written English language. Therefore it is considered a foreign language that one must go to school in order to learn. You know, like the one the federal government funds to teach its own federal employees and at the tremendous cost to majority English speaking tax payers. Swedish is NOT the native language of Finland. This makes the Swedish foreign through the eyes of the Finnish as it is not characteristic of the native Finnish language. It is not trying to preserve anything. French is the national, commercial, native language of France. -

Why don't you try looking up the definition of the word 'foreign' rather than playing little Hitler and making false accusations or outright lying. Yes of course they do. They know it is not characteristic of the national commercial English language or otherwise is a foreign language. These are countries and NOT provinces in a country. Canada has an English national commercial language. Most Canadians must go to school to learn the foreign language French. French is also a federal official language and cost approx. ONE TRILLION DOLLARS since the conception of official federal bilingualism to support this language. If the French want to preserve an obsolete foreign language then it does say much for their thought and reasoning process. I mean relating to a single instance, just looking at my English car manual lying on my desk, is only half as thick as the French manual proves my point. -

That is what foreign languages are considered. Languages used by minority groups that are not characteristic of the majority commercial English language. Comprehension slow AGAIN. -
