  1. This is true. We cannot have a truly educated discussion about this until we know whether or not they knew her age. Otherwise, it is just another case of the Internet is bad, etc.
  2. I have noticed a lot of federalists that I know are increasing becoming convinced that the federal gov't should get completely out of funding programs in provincial juristition and lower taxes accordingly. I assume this would be a good basis to start a discussions. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The only political party that is proposing anything close to that is the Conservatives.
  3. True not all ... y'all are holding onto 28% support nationally. A great majority of Canadians think even IF Martin wasn't involved he should be held accountable for it. Buh bye Martin. Alas, he tried to avenge his father but won a mere pyrrhic victory. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is no doubt in my mind that Martin SHOULD have known about it. However, I can believe that if Chretien micromanaged the program from the PMO than it is very possible that Martin didn't know. We all know the two men did not like each other and kept secrets from each other. I still say Shoop, although you don't agree, that if the Conservatives had another leader they would be in majority territory now. I agree that the Liberals need some time-out but I do not think Canadians are warming up to Mr. Harper. I think we are seeing two men with established political histories whom the public has made their minds up about. In the next election, I believe we will have another minority and then a leadership review for the major parties. Only Layton and Duceppe's jobs are safe at this point.
  4. BAHAHAHAHAH AHH HAH AH HAH AHHAAHAH HAHHAH HA A HAHHHHHHHHHHH Oh man that's a good one, you should take that show on the road. HIL AIR E OUS! I wouldn't be suprised if it was around 90%, they both seem to share that same idiotic "We're the only ones that could even possibly be right." mentality that the sane people of the country love so much. And....August1934, if I was an NDP plant I would have complained that there aren't enough unionized jobs in the factories that make Christmas toys. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am so happy to see you engaging in civilized debate Scott.
  5. Yeah funny that. Imagine a leader of a lobbying group fighting against restricting the rights of lobbying groups? See if ignorant jacka** Liberals call that lying they are overplaying their hands. The Canadian people aren't as foolish as y'all think. Time for Martin to pay the price for Adscam, your feeble attempts to change the subject will not be successful. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I fully support those initiatives by Harper. It certainly would reinvigorate the political process and enable citizens to get more involved and appreciate democracy.
  6. I guess I should not surprised, being an American joining a Canadian forum, that this sort of ignorance exists up North. There are others who do show sense. Clearly you must feel that the French solution to Islamo-fascism is the way to go. Start gearing up for your riots. Bush chooses to let liberty and freedom expose the lie of fascist Islam as opposed to bombing the Middle East into submission. Read and learn: www.logictimes.com/bushplan.htm <{POST_SNAPBACK}> May I ask: would your support for Bush drop at all if he said: "I now have to raise your taxes and get rid of your social security to pay for the beauty of freedom and the end of fascist tyranny in Iraq?" You have a president who is in economic denial. One of the reasons I support the conservative viewpoint is because I like a strong economy free of tax and spend liberals. The problem with Bush is he spends carte blanche while cutting the taxes of the richest...you can't have your cake and eat it too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> More urban myths and intellectual dishonesty. You apparently are unaware that this war is the second cheapest military enterprise in US history (date here: www.logictimes.com/dissent.htm. We have an 11 trillion dollar economy and can afford to defend ourselves against Islamo-fascism. You may have missed the recent almost 4% rise in GDP this last quarter despite hurricanes and the war? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You did not answer my question. My question is, quite simply, the U.S. has a serious national debt problem right now and Iraq is a major part of that. The U.S. government underestimated the cost of the Iraq war by about 14 billion dollars. So I ask my question again: are you willing to PAY for the U.S. spending many years in Iraq to rebuild it?

  8. Are you suggesting that your provincial Liberals are more corrupt than their awkwardly related cousins in Ottawa?
  9. Harper, this great man of principle, is now proposing to pass into law precisely what he mounted a court challenge against while president of the NCC. He is? In what way? Did he mount a court challenge as leader of the NCC to keep someone from cleaning up the government? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think he was talking about specific things Harper advocating like banning corporate donations and restricting the rights of lobbying groups. That certainly does not sound like something that the president of a right-wing lobbying group would advocate.
  10. And government will suddenly change when, you know, another party's PM IS DOING THE SAME THING???
  11. I thought this thread was about the left's beloved kiddy-diddler Scott Ritter. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That was low...Montgomery. However, for some reason I found it very funny for reasons I have, for the last few minutes, been trying to figure out.
  12. Are you seriously suggesting that he is motivated by the same goals as that dastardly Liberal party?! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is exactly what I would say about anyone in politics...they are desired by their political futures (Martin, Harper, Layton, Duceppe, etc.) and by their future reputations (Chretien, etc.)
  13. La PresseJean's sister is a member of the PQ. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We should realize and understand that the choice of Jean as GG was done because the Liberals wanted someone who was visible in the regions of separatist Quebec. Were there more qualified in Canada? Yes. Were there more qualified people that are popular in Saguenay? I don't think so.
  14. That is the other poll with the margin of error factored in, eh?
  15. I cannot comment for August but for Montrealers (and Quebecers in general) this has been a perennial debate, along the lines of whether to put the accent in "Montreal" when speaking or writing in English (August puts it in, I don't unless I am writing in French.) I think that English Canada and French Canada is fine, as long as we are still writing "Canada." I think a more polarizing debate would be "French Canadians" vs. "Quebecois"
  16. Harper, this great man of principle, is now proposing to pass into law precisely what he mounted a court challenge against while president of the NCC. Much like Harper's thoughts on the privatization of health care changed when he became leader of the Conservatives. My only question is, was he lying then or is he lying now? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Trudeau, If it gets him elected, at this point, he agrees.
  17. Here is a basic lesson in current Canadian politics... When LIBERAL CORRUPTION is news, Conservative poll numbers go up. When HARPER CONSERVATISM is news, Liberal numbers go up. It is that easy!!!
  18. Yes Burns, Bush won the second time. What is your point? No one is even talking about that anymore... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No one is talking about this? It's a 1 yr anniversary of the triumph of freedom. What is wrong with that? Or is history only okay when it results in American envoy Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam 23 yrs ago - the only thing that matters? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Burns, I am not some crazy leftist. I am also not talking about Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam. I couldn't care less about the past...I want to focus on the future.
  19. So... 1- Do you remember where you were when this referendum happened? Yes, I was at home and in bed (I was barely 10!!!) 2-How did you feel at the time? Tired and not really following politics. 3- How have you felt since up to today? Well I was always a federalist but at this point I just hope I don't ever hear anything about this sovereignty question again!!! (I know that is not likely to happen) 4-Would a vote for succession have a better chance today than it did 10 years ago? Yes. The Liberals have shown they are willing to buy the hearts of Quebecers and Quebecers dont like it. 5- Does it matter to you today like it did 10 years ago (assuming it mattered 10 years ago)? I just want the debate to be solved and the question ended. If that means the PQ and the Liberals both will f*ck off than that's that. At this point, we need to move on one way or the other.
  20. Adam, just to be fair, the above is an opinion, not a fact. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree. I think that when people vote they vote for who they want to vote. Granted there may be some Liberal-leaning voters who stay home because they don't care but there are Liberal voters in my riding who will vote come hell or highwater.
  21. I didn't say the Conservative didn't have policies. But you have to admit Harper's public appearances re the media pretty much show him whining about Liberals (my "false grounds"??). I have yet to hear a commercial or see anything in the media as of late where Harper talks about his great and wonderful programs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Apparently they aired in Ontario and can be found somewhere on the conservative website. As for Conservatives advertising their policies, it appears that that doesn't work and that polls for them go up when Gomery hangs the Liberals out to dry.
  22. It's not as if THIS Liberal team is all that different from THAT Liberal team (i.e. the one in power when the money was stolen.) The NDP will continue to prop up the Liberals. Having been burned by Layton in the past Harper won't move a non-confidence motion seriously. If Layton does, thus committing his MPs to voting to bring down the government then you will see an election. I think everybody will just wait until after Gomery's final report. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, Canadians love Layton but he has no balls. He would much rather have the Liberals in a minority situation so he can drain the surplus. He would never risk Martin pulling out a bare majority or Harper pulling out a minority.
  23. If Harper could pull it off likely Mulroney did, doubtful but you never know, that could win the next election for him. History has a way of making everybody look better. Four months before the election in 1984 Mulroney was in worse shape than Harper is in now. A good fact for all the Harper haters out there to remember.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I like Harper as a person better than Mulrooney, but apparently people still like old bullsh*tters who spend money like drunk 15 year-old suburban girls at a shopping mall. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> (I apologize for that rather crude comment)
