  1. I understand that you could use a successful model, and yes sweden might or might not be a successful system, I don't know, but what I do know is that looking at one system and having a concrete example is better then the theoretical assumptions we make. All I have heard is that education is a right, and we should get that right free. No comparison to other nations that might have something similar, no learning from others mistakes, just us arguing theoretical points that do not prove anything. There are 3 kinds of people, and this extends to nations as well "Those who learn from other people/nations mistakes, those who learn from their own mistakes, and those who don't learn from mistakes." If we see that hey there are 20 nations using this model and 19 are unsuccessful then we would be stupid to try this unless we are able to see their mistakes, fix those mistakes before we implement the program and make sure that we don't make any other major mistakes.
  2. Taxation is irrelevant, the report looks at the cost of a free education from the point of view of the student and their family rather then the state. It also looks at the change of the education system from testing your knowledge to moving heavily in the direction Teaching to the test. And it states that more and more Greeks are leaving the country to get an education elsewhere. The point is that a "free" education is not free, it only forces the student and their family to spend the money elsewhere in order to get an edge.
  3. And I am tired of people who are shown an example of the so called free education and ignore it because it does not fit their argument. This is not an argument on how good or bad greece is, this is to point out that free education is not really free. If you cannot be bothered to READ and UNDERSTAND this then you sir, are probably not in the right place. Some people want free education, here is an example of free education, where people spend as much on preparing their kids for college. I don't care about your left leaning nonsense, everything that comes out of Greece could be used to prove a point, here is an example of something that was tried and is failing, disprove the article rather then cry about the right wing, if you cannot argue again you are probably in the wrong place.
  4. Are you trying to suggest anything about my ethics?
  5. I wonder do any of them have any idea how to run a direct democracy of 30,000,000 people who on many issues are uninformed and unwilling to learn about the many subject pet project people may support. even with direct democracy there is no guarantee that you will get what you want, all that you can hope for is being the loudest/most violent in order to drone out the competition or scare the undecided. Direct Democracy in more intimate settings are possiable, but once you get a significant population then direct democracy becomes more flawed then representative democracy.
  6. Again, the war in Iraq turned out the way it did because of I would say arrogance or over confidence on the civilian leadership rather then the militaries ability. The the Us military had followed their plan for the invasion I would say that the transition would have gone smoother.
  7. The American government did not send enough troops to Iraq in the invasion. They essentially ignored the opinion of the military on military matters, and all the while civilians were making decisions while not consulting the military who were out on the streets.
  8. Yeah but people cannot act like that, mainly beaus it would discourage people who are competitive from staying in Canada. Steal from the hardworking upper class and they leave along with their talents.(Hardworking upperclass means those who earned it) Describe how the democratic distribution of opportunity is to work, Im sure a lot of people in the Maritimes would love to hear how that works. Does not explain why a person can't get a job. Meaning?
  9. He wants a Robin Hood to lead Canada, what did Robin Hood do? Steal from the rich gig to the poor, but the question here is, does this mean that the lazy are included in to the poor? Who are considered the rich? Those that make 50k/year? 70k/year? 100k/year? It seems to me that many people are actively looking for a way to punish those who work hard to get where they are in life, and by this I do not mean the multimillionaires who get huge bonuses while their company is losing money or the entitled trust fund brats. what I mean is that a doctor, or engineer or a business owner who worked hard to get to where they are should not be penalized in order to support the less motivated. We need simple rules, if you work you invest in EI, if you abuse EI(seasonal job etc...) then you are cut off. Complaining that you have to move to get a job... You go to the jobs, you don't air for the jobs to come to you. This coming from the person who proudly admitted that she is here just to piss people off? Wow so low... What does foreign ownership have to do with EI? Does the foreign owner come and take your job for himself? If the job is in your area, you take it... I dont understand what he means, is he complaining that there are no jobs, or is he complaining that the jobs that are in his region are all taken up by distant landlords?
  10. Why? So you can stay at home do nothing all day and get someone to hand you a pay full of money for your troubles?
  11. You do know scandinavia includes other nations as well right? You made a comment and I pointed out that Sweden, Norway and Finland have low population density. Limit immigrants? Didn't their immigrant population go from 1% of total population to 6% in a decade? Sure sounds like someone is limiting them.
  12. http://upi-yptk.ac.id/Ekonomi//Psacharopoulos_The-real.pdf?PHPSESSID=47e28c180b731783ea45dd3740283d5f Explanation how much "free" higher education really costs. And you still haven't told us how you will get the money and then make an argument to use that money for "free" education rather then paying down the debt, improving healthcare, primary and secondary education, cutting down taxes or improving the military. Its a nice exercise for you to say we need free education...just as soon as one of those people I insult on a regular basis comes up with a realistic plan to accomplish this.
  13. The North Korean's are in serious danger of blowing themselves up more then anyone else.
  14. Room? They are pretty large countries and underpopulated at that.
  15. Major difference between to many losing their jobs, and people working seasonal jobs. People in seasonal jobs should not plan their life around EI, it should not be a financial tool where the rest of the working population is paying the unemployed segment for 4 months of the year after only 8 months of work. This should be a safety net for those people who lose their jobs, while they look for another job they get EI.
  16. A lot of cow kicking, fancy colours, and people out of step. Not impressive at all...
  17. Do you even know what a neoconservative is? I take it as a complement... You won't count my opinion, fine be wrong...
  18. I guess you can't back up your claim. If you claim he is fascist you should present concise points WHY, rather they send to leftwing nutcase websites.
  19. Ok, give CONCRETE examples of how Harper is a fascist, with sources. I really want to see how you bs your way through this one
  20. We can actually start with the fascists in Italy in the 1920's as the first fascist government of that era.
  21. Its funny, they say a lot of things, but no one is clarifying whether its 2 students or 2000 students. And it comes down to this, those so called protestors are using violence to get what they want, they are terrorizing students who do not support them, they have prevented people from living their daily life. If this was a protest by tax payers to increase tuition and they used the exact same tactics you would quickly decide that you don't support them.
  22. This guys is a prime example why we need to strengthen our criminal system. http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20120525/robert-clifford-smith-life-sentence-fatal-crash-120525/20120525?hub=TorontoNewHome It is a tragedy that to lock this piece of human excrement a young women had to lose her life. And the saddest part is that this "maximum" sentence means he is eligible for parole in 10 years. This thing has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that he cannot be helped, and he will not change, I say for him and those like him we need to lock him up and throw away the keys.
  23. You have to EARN respect...
  24. You mean the people who pay taxes? Damn straight we are pissed.
