  1. Who said I have an economics degree? But I would certainly respect an econ academic's opinions on this matter far more than a philosophy "academic".
  2. Don't confuse public perception with far left wing environmentalist's perceptions. As far as I know, the overwhelming majority of Canadians are supportive of these pipeline projects. Just because some radical environmentalists have hijacked these developments, does not mean the silent majority of the public is supportive of the loud radical minority environmentalists.
  3. You do if you open a margin account. There's not much complicated about buying on margin... it's pretty much the same concept as a down payment on your home. You could open a margin account in a few days, dump 30k in it, then buy 90k worth of a stock (3:1 leverage) that you got a hot tip on. Stock goes to 0, broker sells you out, and you owe 60k. Something like that likely just happened to a lot of Canadian investors in fact. See TRE.TO.
  4. You sound like a fat 30 year old virgin. Am I right?
  5. The bad apples in the private sector are the ones who end up collecting ei. Bad apples in the public sector get shuffled around various departments for 30 years then retire with a golden parachute.
  6. Do you ever have your own thoughts? Or do you just share the thoughts of Potter, Kant, and "they"? Philosophize on that one for a while. Free will and all that jazz..
  7. That's exactly where I read it and that's exactly where I forgot it. Somehow Kant's categorical imperative never seems to come up in any meetings.
  8. Can you stop writing like that? It's painful to read. Surely you learned to write better with your humanities education.
  9. No education is complete without Kant's categorical imperative!! Where do you guys come up with this stuff? For the record I did learn that garbage and then I promptly forgot as much of it as I could 5 minutes after the final exam (you know, the exam I got 100% on after studying for an hour?) You're either a philosophy student or you're still in university, because I can assure you that 5 years after graduating from anything other than Arts you won't be remembering Kant's categorical imperative.
  10. I can assure you that the University I attended was a leader in philosophical thought... unfortunately. There's not much to learn in Philosophy. First learn a bunch of ideas of dead old guys, then apply those ideas to the real world. Then deride anyone who disagrees with you by listing as many fallacies as you can.
  11. How many guys get "forced" into doing it a second or third or fourth time when we just want to pass out after finishing? Maybe it's just me... but I'm pretty sure I'm not THAT quick! I remember one particularly aggressive girl woke me up in the middle of the night by slapping my face gently because she wanted seconds... RAPE CULTURE!!! MASCULISTS UNITE!!
  12. I think I just figured out why Cybercoma is so offended about me denigrating a philosophy education: Looks like MLW has another sucker who bought some $100,000 toilet paper. (FYI this is Cybercoma arguing that persuading a female to have sex with you is rape because Kant says it is unethical).
  13. They sure do... In real fields. I took 2 philosophy courses in university and got 100% in one and like 95% in the other. I studied maybe for 30 minutes before every test and a couple hours before the final exam. It is a joke of a field. IMO they hand out A+'s like candy to lure the lefty sheep in and make them feel intellectually superior to the "masses" who work their asses off for A's and B's in business, engineering, and science.
  14. Sure he's doing fine. He's doing fine because the lefty sheep lap up his "progressive" thoughts. Philosophy PhD's provide absolutely no economic benefits to society. They derive their incomes from churning out lefty sheep in universities, and providing the lefty sheep with a figurehead to parrot their arguments from. Doesn't mean he has a good education or that I want him making decisions about Canadian jobs and the economy.
  15. I've spent much of my life in Ottawa and know all about the Glebe. It's a breeding ground for hippies.
  16. Better education? PhD in philosophy = $100,000 toilet paper.
  17. Actually, the main problem is that the other guys actually want to spend MORE money. You know, to stimulate the economy, and protect trees, and fight for the middle class, and save the homeless, and feed the poor, and inject the addicted, and coddle the children, and stand up for workers rights, and abort fetuses, and on and on.
  18. Governments waste money? Stop the presses! This department needs to be scrapped, but so does half of the public sector. And conservatives are the only one who will face this reality. Anyone who has worked in both the public and private sector knows how horribly inefficient and unproductive the public sector and public sector workers are. There are probably 7000 employees at EC to do the work of 3500, and 5000 at INAC to do the work of 2500. Hell you can say the same about every federal department. This story is a drop in the bucket.
  19. Uncovered how? By a garbage blog filled with speculation, heresay, and coincidences? This blog is probably hosted on Saudi servers. Every message gets funding from somewhere. Welcome to reality.
  20. Sweet more cost savings. Lets just make garbage collection once every two weeks and fire half of them.
  21. Close the pools and libraries and buy up some used xboxes and ps2's for the poor underprivileged children. Nothing keeps a kid out of the street better than a game console. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper than libraries and pools which is about the last place I would expect to find a troubled youth.
  22. I guess she's got you beat. You only dodged a question in this thread 5 or 6 times. I guess that's why she gets paid the big bucks!
