The sad part is that governments may be fully aware of the disastrous Health care system in Canada but reluctant to do anything about it. Maybe they want to get rid of what they see as surplus population. Wake up nation. These are our parents and grandparent and these will be us ourselves in not so distant future. We need Private Health care system in Canada alongside publicly funded system. Private hospitals will be more careful on who they hire as doctors and nurses and they will be held responsible for mistakes and answerable to paying patients but the public Health care don't feel responsible or answerable because it is free service and hence 35000 defenseless, most vulnerable people are killed by our doctors and nurses every year.

In the last year alone over 35000 Canadians were killed due to medical errors in Canada. This figure is double the number who died of Covid past year. Death by medical mistake is the third largest cause of death in Canada after cancer and heart attacks. A powerful tax-payer funded organization by the name of CMPA (Canadian Medical Protective Association) with highly paid money hungry lawyers are defending doctors' reputations who make all those errors and keep them at their jobs to likely cause more errors and deaths. Also as a result no compensation is paid in most cases to the family of victims who as tax payers and are paying the bill for those corrupt lawyers defending the rich and powerful. Shame on Canada and its sickening Public only Health Care system killing the most vulnerable being the old and sick population and those lawyers living on blood money and who defend the rich and powerful against the weak and defenseless .

All scientists are saying that vaccines will be still effective on this new variant but maybe not as much as 90% on original virus.

Vaccines are 90% effective on original virus which means there will be breakthrough cases, however, I have discovered now that on THIS new variant it may be far less effective because both these travelers were obviously fully fully vaccinated. This is one of the unknowns as how effective is our vaccines on this variant and nobody yet knows the answer to that.

The fact that all travelers to Canada must be fully vaccinated before entry shows that these two individuals got infected in spite of being fully vaccinated. Which may mean current vaccines may not be as effective.

News just in that 2 cases of the Omicron variant has entered Canada (Ottawa area) thanks to African travelers from Nigeria which is not listed even among the banned African countries. They entered Canada November 23 which predates the date that the variant was declared variant of concerned. and it is unknown how many they may have infected already. Would not have happened if Canada had banned all entries to Canada, in particular from continent of Africa where vaccination rate is only 7%. Easy and effective treatment oral pills. Not sure if you listed finding effective treatment or cure like the Pfizer pills claiming to be 89% effective in preventing severe illnesses and death. More efforts needs to be placed on that front if we really want to end pandemic. And more importantly once this is found then remove all barriers including patents so that third world countries can mass produce them.

Of course. Everyone admits that. They are vaccines but cure and no vaccine in the world is 100% effective. This was said from beginning. Vaccines reduce the chances of transmission and infection. Not eliminate them. That is what vaccines are.

At this time when I am responding to your post we do not know enough about this new variant to know how effective vaccines are or its transmissivity or how seriously ill it will make its victims. Scientists are working now to find out the answers to above questions in coming days and weeks. mRNA vaccines however, can be modified to fit the variant easily if current vaccines are found ineffective but the testing and approval would take months.

Damn this damn virus. I am sick and tired of this virus keep mutating itself. Good move by the government of Canada. Step in the right direction but if it was me I would have banned non-essential travelling altogether and ban all foreign nationals from entering Canada until this damned pandemic ends. Citizens returning must undergo very strict quarantine rules and those purposely evading must be subjected to very harsh punishments including minimum mandatory jail times.
