Immigrants cost Canada $30 billion per year
CITIZEN_2015 replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Most of the country is not limited to northern and remote parts where less than 5% of population resides. Are you going to create 100,00 jobs per year in 5% of Canada for new arrivals? -

Not racism. It has nothing to do with racism. Those many Canadians don't say stop immigration from certain races or countries but reduce immigration level in general from current high level. Our hospitals are flooded with newcomers from third world countries such that Canadian born here and who are sick and in need who have contributed to building this country all their lives and who have been paying taxes for decades have to wait a long time because of that or not receive quality care. Our schools are flooded with children of new immigrants so that quality education is not possible for our own. Crime rates have gone up among many new arrivals in major cities, and with that the cost of enforcement.. Cultural conflict have started showing up our society. Immigration levels should be reduced so that new arrivals can be absorbed within our evolving system. And before you or anyone call me a racist, wait I am an immigrant myself (or foreigner according to taxme). -

Why you are avoiding the question? Is that because you have no answer for it? This question related to forcing immigrant to move to remote areas fr 3 years: Are you going to create 300,000 jobs per years for doctors, engineers, school and hospital workers, l and workers of other types in those tiny remote areas with small population? Are there enough schools for immigrant teachers or hospitals for immigrant nurses or restaurants for immigrant workers or construction activities for immigrant construction workers? Or you are going to put them on social assistant programs for 3 years when they will become unemployed until they get their citizenship three years later? -

So now you admit and acknowledge that immigrants bring growth and properties to Canada. That is an improvement. Never I advocated illegal immigrants or more immigrants. In fact I said many times we need to cut immigration levels in half and be more selective to avoid cultural conflicts and other problems down the road. Read my posts before quoting me falsely. -

So lets compare the after recession data. GDP per capita improved from $20,500 in 1995 to over $52000 in 2019 (More than twice almost three times higher). Or from $24000 in year 2000 to more than double now. Other statistics on employment, confidence ...etc. follow the same pattern. https://www.google.com/search?q=canada+gdp+per+capita+in+1995&rlz=1C1CHBF_enCA807CA807&oq=canada+gdp+per+capita+in+1995&aqs=chrome.0.69i59.13172j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 You are distorting facts and misrepresent them to blame all problems on immigrants whereas immigrants have been the engine for economic growth not the ther way round. Yes there are some problems likely as a result of high rate of immigration (cultural conflicts, criminal activities,...etc.) but not economic issues. -

So you are providing 300,000 jobs every year in northern and remote areas for new immigrants right? Doctors, engineers, skilled workers, investors, teachers, nurses, etc. Or do you suggest that they just move there and be on social assistance programs forever just to increase population of those areas? And then people will complain immigrants are using our social programs intended for Canadians!!!. -

No but they have chosen to live there. It is their choice and their right to choose. But when a citizen is forced to move there as a condition after citizenship then they don't have equal rights with the other 98% of population who have chosen other places to live. -

You are targeting immigrants (that is soon to be Canadian citizens ) and imposing a condition to come here and accept to become second class citizens. I think that i says enough. How about adding other conditions like if they open restaurants then they have to serve food to Canadians for free? Or if they work for the government or private sector they should accept to earn half the wage Canadians earn or work twice as much to have continued employment? Or have to pay twice as much in taxes, Or have to pay twice when buying a house or always should give way to Canadians when driving? Really!!!!!!!! -

Those who were struggling to find a job or buy a house or pay for essentials in the 80's and 90's and now able to do so are the evidence (millions of Canadians). But if you wish statistical evidence then in 1983, unemployment rate was 12% and now is less than half. GDP per capita improved since then from $13000 in 1983 to over $52000 in 2019 (FOUR times higher), house ownership is way up since 80's. Confidence in economy is way up since both 80's and 90's and many other statistics and all these because of (in spite of) millions of new arrivals. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHBF_enCA807CA807&ei=mfBrXc7uHdLn_Qa7y7TICQ&q=gdp+per+capita+canada+1983&oq=gdp+per+capita+canada+1983&gs_l=psy-ab.3..35i39.196937.200554..201586...0.2..0.124.739.6j2......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j0j0i22i30j0i22i10i30.GGOTrAZ7HvQ&ved=0ahUKEwiOn4jAhLDkAhXSc98KHbslDZkQ4dUDCAo&uact=5 https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHBF_enCA807CA807&ei=E_BrXeL3GaSb_QbOupfYCQ&q=gdp+per+capita+canada+2019&oq=gdp+per+capita+canada+2019&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0.127616.131394..132432...0.2..0.115.819.3j5......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j35i39j0i22i30j0i22i10i30.MrKJhUjTMFI&ved=0ahUKEwiizZGAhLDkAhWkTd8KHU7dBZsQ4dUDCAo&uact=5 -

You failed to response to the statement made before that there has been significant improvements to the economic conditions of Canadians born here since 80's and 90's because of (or in your view in spite of) 10 million new arrivals since then into Canada. Wages are much higher, purchase power significantly improved, unemployment rate significantly lower and the economy much improved. Instead you attack a link or two likely articles by anti-immigrant groups that shows new immigrants are slower in catching up with those born here and that too is true. It takes time t adjust to new country and catch up. You also failed to respond to the estimate figures stated before in my post that even if allegedly immigrants cost 30 billions to Canadians annually those who arrived even if HALF pay an average income taxes then they contribute 60 billion annually just from direct income tax twice what you claim the cost of new immigrants allegedly is, hiding the fact that new immigrants in long term will become tax payers too in turn. I am myself not unconditionally pro-immigrant however, my fear is mostly the cultural conflict and that is why I am advocating lower level of immigration with adaptability and potential of positive contributions to Canada (education, assets) as the main criteria. We should not stop immigration all together but cut it down and be more selective, A lot more selective. -

You don't understand the fundamentals of growth and prosperity and how it creates jobs and wealth. Yes it is the need for new infrastructure that simulates growth and creates jobs and yes new immigrants are the engine for that. Not only new infrastructure but even more costly social and medical creates jobs. Don't hate out of ignorance but first educate yourself. Population as a whole is a burden on environment so the world population needs to be controlled. In spite of high levels of immigration past decade or two Canadians in general are much more prosperous than two decades ago. Unemployment is much lower compare to 90's and the main sectors of economy being housing and manufacturing is booming whereas we have about 10 million more immigrants in this country. Even if your figures are correct then imagine that even if half of immigrants since 90's are tax payers now and each paying an average of $12000 direct income tax then each year those immigrant paying twice more in taxes (60 billion dollars annually) than the figure YOU claim the new immigrant would cost each year. And that is just Direct income tax alone they all pay other taxes two like HST and property taxes. -

It goes without saying. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that. From my writing it is clear English is not my first language. You are extreme because you don't acknowledge facts. There is good and bad sides to everything and immigration is no exception. There are some good immigrants who are hard working and contribute very positively to Canada and they are some bad immigrants who stay on social programs forever or become criminals after arrival. Just like there are good and bad born Canadians who fall into those exact same categories. Also as another example they are some Canadians who have become millionaires because of rising housing prices everywhere and some who cannot even get into housing market and many other good and bad examples of immigration. Not to mention immigrants become consumers and hence stimulate consumer spending which is the larger side of the economy resulting in higher growth which benefits every citizen. Educate yourself and you will know the benefits of immigration well outweigh the harms. I am the one who is fair and honest and state the facts that we should cut down immigration to half and we must be more SELECTIVE on immigration and hence reduce the flow of bad immigrants and increase and select the good ones based on adaptability and potential of positive contributions to Canada. You are extreme because you wish to ban immigration all together because of the bad side of it totally disregarding the positive sides of it to advance your case. -

You are putting words in my mouth. I never remotely suggested that. I said there are many home owners whose homes worth over a million now as a result of immigration all over the country. Hence they are millionaires. Nobody forcing anyone to sell. Those who sell wish to take advantage of their rising home prices or invest elsewhere or travel. -

Yes Asians are the reason for skyrocketing housing prices in Vancouver but laundering their criminal money!! Can you back up the laundering part? So immigrants made hundreds of thousand of Canadians (home owners) millionaires in Vancouver and millions more elsewhere right? I rest my case. -

In your book I am a foreigner too. Or because my skin is very white that alone would make me Canadian in your book? I lost a fair competition to someone who worked much harder but he happened to have come over a decade later than me. So yes if we had stopped immigration, I would have still had my good high paying job. Oh wait!!!, on second thought I wouldn't have been here at the first place to have that good high paying job!!!!!. Oh wait again. You wouldn't have been here to make these comments either as (unless you are a native Canadian) your ancestors wouldn't have been allowed to immigrate to Canada either. Based on my calculations I have paid already over half a million dollars in various taxes. They have gone into treasury to maintain social programs including health service for Canadians and other programs which pays Canadians in need and I did this happily. By the time I retire that figure would be close to a million if not over. So after all these contributions (not to mention educating many Canadian students who are now professionals and tax payers thanks to the education they received) I am still a foreigner in your book because I happened to be born elsewhere. Your criteria is not welcomed by most of the citizens here. Not by this Citizen for sure. Immigration levels should come down to a reasonable level that they can be absorbed but not stopped completely. And adaptability must become the main criteria as well as potential for contributions to Canada. I am a moderate not (unlike you) an extreme. -

That was what I was saying. 105,837 is not nearly enough. How force people to have more sex? Or have children they can't afford? Immigration is not illegal so why you are comparing with criminals I can't understand!! Not any party but I have read here from individuals suggesting that. -

So Canada's population will be increasing by one hundred thousand a year based on your own statistics and that is enough? Considering that globally population will be increasing much faster? Canada's economic growth will be adversely affected too. A lot of growth coming from immigration. Someone cited the Vancouver rapidly housing prices (and elsewhere in Canada). All economists will tell you that rising housing prices is a good thing and brings growth to the economy and confidence as people spend more and stimulate growth. There is nothing worse than falling housing prices for any economy. You are mistaken. I am not pro-immigration. I want immigration to be cut in half and adaptability become the main criterion. I am just not going extreme asking it to be stopped or be selected based on skin color. I lost a very good high paying job myself two decades ago to a new arrival who worked like a donkey. At first I was mad but later after I overcame my anger I told myself maybe he deserved it. I left at 5 after my 8 hours work was over. He stayed and work overtime and did better. So he replaced me. -

My immigration ideas follows my own doctrine. Immigration levels were increased during Harper conservatives and Selectivity based on adaptability never became a main criterion. -

I was responding to Argus's post which focused on the elderly. Brothers and sisters and all of their kids are not elderly. So read my post carefully. Many Canadians likely a majority have parents, grandparents or grand grand parents who have been born elsewhere and have come to Canada as immigrants. Those who we are admitting now as immigrants will have children and grand children as well who will be second and third generations immigrants and this means fully adopted and forming or maybe even running the future Canada which will be a sunny Canada indeed. It is not true. I believe that immigrants needs to be absorbed slowly and believe in lower immigration levels and I am a Liberal and strongly against conservatism. -

CITIZEN_2015 replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I believe we have close to 250,000 new immigrant every year (I believed it should be reduced to 150,000) so 20,000 of them elderly based on your post then we are bringing over 90% younger people. So lets also mention the positive side. Citizens of this democratic country have the right to be with their parents as the born citizens do. If if deprive our citizens from joining their parents then where would we be as a western democracy. Since your concentration is on elderly immigrants It is also worth pointing out that most of those elderly immigrants are coming under family sponsorship programs. That means for up to 20 years after their arrivals they are not allowed to benefit from our social programs that low income citizens born here are entitled too like Guaranteed Income supplement. -

World population is regretfully increasing rapidly. Canada's share of population is decreasing considering that it has a vast area (even excluding the non-habitable lands still Canada is very large compare to Britain, France and Germany and most of Europe and Asia). Are you saying that Canada's population would be still increasing from current levels at a reasonable rate if we stop immigration? Considering that the birth rate is falling among Canada born Canadians? -

CITIZEN_2015 replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes cultural conflict is an issue with current policies however, the answer to that is not to force immigrants to go where there are no jobs for them but rather be selective on who we bring in. Let's accept immigrants who are already adopted to Canadian culture which is based on respect for individuals, freedom of choice and religion, tolerances for differences and believing in equality f women and individuals regardless of race, religion, national origin, wealth and orientation. Bear in mind that there ate many who are born here who do not believe in those principals so we don't need to bring in more weeds from outside.
