Do public sector employees contribute to tax revenue?
WWWTT replied to Bryan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
At first glance what I have written may not make sence. However the original line for the thread does not aswell. All public sectors employees pay taxes and only a portion of politicians wages are taxable end of debate. This thread degenerated into a debate of who generates wealth. This is much more complicated so if you are confused thats ok. WWWTT -
Do public sector employees contribute to tax revenue?
WWWTT replied to Bryan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wow this thread has become completely ridiculous! Ok I have glansed over a bunch of the comments here and first I want to add that Shwa you are right about everyone haveing to pay taxes except I believe politicians salaries are tax free or only a portion of their wages are taxable(I would like to see Harpers pay stub!) It seems many people here feel that the private sector is the goose that lays the golden egg.And without them our society would collapse. Well the industrial revolution only started around the mid 1800's so that would make it around 160yrs old.No argument there. Did democracies, police, health care, firefighters, roads, courts, international trade, military, start before or after this?I don't think there is any argument there either. So why the confusion about what is essential? The Roman empire built some of the best roads and bridges in Europe, not the private sector.Tested true over centuries. We have become very dependant on the private sector and I think it is very healthy to once and a while be reminded of what actually came first. WWWTT -
Steve Paikin to moderate English debate
WWWTT replied to WWWTT's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Man you sound like a baby when a toy is taken away from him Ok you wanted proof. Check the voter turn out rates for the last election where a black president was running for office. Its the highest in 40 yrs.I guess the American public do not exactly agree with your current opinion about affirmative action.Actually afirmative action should be now called "its about freakin time why did it take this freakin long cmon hurry up lets go!Action" Also check the elections Canada website of historical election turnout. The 2008 election had the lowest turnout rate in freakin Canadian history! Oh and I wonder who moderated that telivised debate? Don't get me wrong I like Steve! But voter turnout is a serious issue and the evidence is clear that elections Canada and the media and the politicians have nothing that they can point to to say "Hey its working, more voters are coming out to justify our politacal system" And thats what this boils down to now isn't it.Justifying the cost associated with our political system! And Paikin is only a small part of the picture and is only a pupet. He didn't kick in the door of the media producers office and say "Ok I'm calling the shots here and we are doing this my way" There are many more others responsible for this current line or direction the media is taking towards the telivised debates. Until there is proof that this direction is working then I am right.Period! Aswell there is another point I must make and that is low voter turnout is encouraged by some politicians, maybe the conservatives? You think half these guys would get into office if more people actually came out to vote? Cmon Bill,Cmon WWWTT -
Steve Paikin to moderate English debate
WWWTT replied to WWWTT's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ok finaly we are actually talking about this subject and a couple of you guys are making good comments. Now for me and many other Canadians there has to be a certain percentage of entertainment value in politics for an actual interest. And the last debate sucked the life of any prospect away from that. And I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of Steve Paikin. The format was terrible too!Just one moderator and all the participants sitting around a table looking at each other. And I don't expect to get much support from this forum on these type of subjects! Oh my God do you people actually think I tell anyone in the real world I actually contribute to a political forum or from time to time watch the "Agenda" My ex girlfriend use to hate it when I watched that show, she would just give up and leave the room.Who's fault it that?Anybody but Steves? Look this is a good opportunity to get many voters active in this process of democracy and the networks should take an active roll in trying to get a moderator that can at least attempt to stir some real interest amongst the audience. As far as I am concerned the media in Canada is partially responsible for the low voter turn out in this country! Was the voter turn out higher after the last election that followed the Enlish debate Steve moderated? Its a sad fact that many of the good journalists and talented Canadians in the media field leave Canada for better opportunities in the US. I guess all we're left is is Steve. WWWTT -
Steve Paikin to moderate English debate

I almost started to believe that. Usually when someone thinks another persons quotes are stupid they just ignore them. But when someone is offended or threatened then they want to be combative. Heres a hint,if you want to hide your true feelings then take a page out of Harpers campaign and zip your lips Buddy! Ha! WWWTT -
Harper vows to kill political party subsidies if given majority
WWWTT replied to Bryan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is an excellent concept that I have tinkered with on another forum. Political parties have long suffocated and poisened both houses of parliament. If you take the party out of politics I believe the end result would be more fair and less biased such as the supreme court of Canada and other federal courts in Canada(I am not saying that these institutions are free of problems, just less problems). I will give this some thought and try to properly articulate a related thread. WWWTT -
Hi Moon.I recently talked with my associate and she said that 6% was the first month late and the following months were at an even higher rate. She could still not give me more details as to how much higher of a rate because she pays her bills off immediately to avoid extra costs. When I find out more I will post WWWTT

Ya buddy I checked your site and its almost three years old. But thanks anyways buddy WWWTT

Every tax payer in Canada is a contributor to everyone who runs in the federal elections and gets some votes(I am not sure of the exact details, but Harper recently anounced he wants to put an end to this).Thats a big reason why every election costs the taxpayers in the ballpark of 300 million dollars. Aswell political contributions are tax deductible and this further burdens the tax payer. So if you then contribute more money to a political party or an individual you are then dishing out again. Sounds like an addiction to me. WWWTT

Has Layton sacrified the NDP chances in Alberta for Quebec?
WWWTT replied to Scotty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Excellent thread I believe his thinking here is to pick up the green vote. If the NDP extend the olive branch now, and if the greens go down after this election the NDP can pick up those votes in future elections. Sounds like Jack feels confident May and the greens may be gone soon. WWWTT -

Sounds like you do not like someone proposing we change your white male 6'+ blue eyed dominance over who runs Canada. What ever happened to multiple moderators? Why have something as important as this be controlled by one single person? I believe that this debate is very important.Expecially since Harper avoids answering any questions and therefore this subject does have merit. WWWTT -

Steve Paikin to moderate English debate
WWWTT replied to WWWTT's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you do not discriminate against him then you discriminate against others. He has already moderated one debate, fine. Time to move on,there are many qualified people who can fairly moderate a debate. Keep in mind that the moderator does slightly influence the debate and he in my opinion has done so in the last English debate of 08.And any other moderator will do the same and there are other views in Canada. I use to live in Hamiton Bill and I lived in southern Ontario all my life, but southern Ontario is not the centre of Canada. Yes we have a big perspective, but there are others and lets give others a voice here. WWWTT -

WWWTT replied to WWWTT's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I answered your question in the original quote Since elections only happen once every so many years then a more diverse approach should be taken. In other words there are more than one opinion in Canada and other approaches to refereeing the debate should be explored to reflect the integral diversity of Canada. If Paikin was sincerely un-biased he would have taken the high road and refused to moderate this debate. WWWTT -
Didn't this guy moderate the last debate? Is this the only guy that can do this? How about someone who is a visible minority or a woman? Or someone who is not from Ontario or Quebec. I am sure that there are many people from across Canada more than qualified for this job and since elections only happen once every so many years(in theory)a more diverse approach should be taken. Harper turns down one-on-one debate with Ignatieff
WWWTT replied to Shwa's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let me elaborate. Harper does not like to talk.He is using this tactic that if you "don't open your mouth then nobody will think your stupid".I believe the opposition has realized that this could be Harpers Achilles heel and are looking for different angles to hammer him on this. Harper has looked agitated when refusing to comment on several occasions. If the liberals keep agitating him in similar but different ways such as bringing up this one on one debate they could be setting him up for a knock out punch Your best defence is a strong offence tactic would be another description. Up until a week ago the conservatives have bein the dominantly aggresive party and now the liberals have found a way to attack Harper in a way that could make him look insecure. And insecurity is the kiss of death for the conservatives! Harper turns down one-on-one debate with Ignatieff
WWWTT replied to Shwa's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Good tactic from the Liberal camp! In my opinion Harper can be made to look very bad and the opposition is starting to do that. I predict that if next week is like this one then Ignatieff could be in a strong position to throw a knock out punch Or the liberal tactic may be more like a series of flurry punches,no knock ou punch, just a death of the million cuts.
