  1. Yes a 63 year old man is just what they need taking over the party.
  2. Coderre thinks they should wait two years. Which is a smart idea for fundraising but then the leader only has two years before the election, which may not be good. A proper leadership race should be about a year long so the candidates should have time to connect with voters.
  3. I guess Coderre doesn't think he'll run permanently. Carolyn Bennett would be an interesting choice for interim leader.
  4. She can duke it out with the best of them. She's also very educated and had run a number of companies. Denis Coderre is calling on Bob Rae to become interim leader for the next two years and then hold their convention.
  5. Her husband was the joke that became leader of the NL Liberals but was booted after two or three months.
  6. Siobhan Coady could have be excellent, it's unbelievable someone of her strength could not get re-elected.
  7. I read at an interview with the 19 year old and he seems to be open to Quebec sovereignty. How many Quebec New Democrats are sovereigntists? There were several candidates that jumped between the NDP and Bloc.
  8. The girl who was in Vegas isn't comfortable talking to met yet.
  9. I wish I had run for the NDP in Quebec.
  10. The speaker may be voted on by MPs but who do you think tells those MPs who to vote for?
  11. The Ontario Liberals are still in the mid to high 30's in support, Ignatieff would have loved to get a number that big last night.
  12. A women would be interesting, and it might be a smart political move on Harper's part.
  13. That's what I figure. He has a great background. He is from the Innu community of Sheshatshiu, which has had some serious problems over the years with addictions and such, and unlike many from there he went onto finish school and attend university. He was President of the Innu Nation, has served two terms as Grand Chief and was Deputy Grand Chief. He also played a significant role in a recent land claims agreement that will help the Lower Churchill project proceed. http://www.conservative.ca/team/meet_our_candidates/?linkTo=true&districtId=1239
  14. Peter Penashue is the Newfoundland and Labrador MP, he's the first Innu from Labrador to ever be elected to the House of Commons and is also the first Conservative to be elected in Labrador since the 60's.
  15. From what I've seen of Dominic LeBlanc I think he could win over people once they get to know him. He's a smart guy, from I've seen he's not overly charasmatic, none of the leaders really are, but he has a personality and he was honest in 2008 about the trouble the party was in. The fact that he is not well known may also be a good thing for him.
  16. I never read the full thing, too long, just the last part about the 4 possible groups within the party.
  17. Some are saying that Jason Kenney will possibly be the next Foreign Affairs Minister. I'm thinking and hoping that Peter Penashue will be Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs.
  18. Rob Silver has a piece in the Globe and Mail today about the 4 different groups that will likely emerge in the Liberals and one was the group that will think the party needs to be completely reformed, which he thought is probably needed.
  19. The Liberals were at 32% in the polls only a few weeks ago.
  20. Dominic LeBlanc also has a famous name and much more experience, him and Trudeau will have a battle. There's Kirsty Duncan.
  21. The Liberals will have an easier time rebuilding under a Conservative majority government.
  22. It will be very hard but if they are smart they could come back. The Conservatives will now be able run government how they want and will move further to the right opening more room for the Liberals in the centre. Even with an historic win I can't imagine Jack Layton staying on to lead the NDP in the next election seeing he'll be 66. A Liberal NDP merger is possible though, but I think there is room in the centre. Denis Coderre was seen as a possible leader till his few issues as Quebec Lieutenant but it turns out he may have been right at that time. Justin Trudeau is obviously someone and maybe over four years he could grow into a credible force. Dominic LeBlanc of course could be the frontrunner. David McGuinty is a smart man and could also be a candidate. Kevin Lamoureux could help them out west, though the party's best idea over the next four yeras is to win back the east. Someone from outside the current 34 could also take a shot at the leadership now that there will be four years for them to get in the House of Commons, if they wish. Bob Rae will get his dream and become leader on an interim basis.
  23. I like Mulroney.
