Holy shit. Has anyone seen these make-me-puke Bombardier commercials where the Canadian is travelling in distant lands like Europe ("that's my train") or Africa ("that's my plane")? Now we all know that Candians have a nauseating and overbearing national pride abroad - reminiscant of Americans circa 1981 - complete with flags on backpacks and ...er...how does the joke go? "How do you know when a Candian is in the lounge in your European hotel? He'll tell you" Anyway - it is painfully apparent that Bombardier is trying to caqsh in on this shamelessness of Candians by trynig to make us all feel good about the fact that billinos of our tax dollars have been poured into that miserable company. Is this the worst example of "rubbing our faces in it"? Is anybody impressed by this shamelessness? There is my rant. Contribute at will....

One for you all to ponder and discuss: Imagine how Iran would behave if it already had the bomb...
-
That would be stupid. DoP Link? That number seems ridiculously high. Most estimates I've heard ranged between 1.5 and 3 tons. We need to pummel those assholes.

money is the root of all evil.

That sounds suspiciously like the words of a man who doesn't do anything and talks all day long about how everything everybody does is so easy to do. "Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work." -- Stephen King -
You guys are babbling. The key point here is that Iran is pushing the limits and they need to be pummelled into sumbission before they get the nuke. Period.

Is the troop surge showing early signs of the right direction? Certainly the decision to take out Saddam was a good one. However there remain questions about the method of prosecution of this war. Is this troop surge a step in the right direction? Even TIME MAGAZE claims that things are "quiet in baghdad...too quiet" In other words, to the leftist media, even good news is bad news. It's definitely early in the game, but some big players have fled the scene and only one brigade of four has yet arrived to clamp down on the sectarian violence (90% of which occurs within 30 miles of baghdad). Hold on to your hats, but as I've stated before, perhaps actually having the will to win has been the only difference between us and the bad guys so far - the dems can't wait to lose a "Bush War" - but maybe now we're on the path to victory...

This is just more obvious evidence that Iran is a troublemaker that needs to be set straight.

That is not intuitively a bad thing. You will have to produce a better argument than that. We live in a world where states commonly pay farmers to NOT produce crops. That is not the issue. The issue is whether global warming is bad. Who is to say that global warming will not make uninhabitable regions of the world habitable in the future or expose fruitfully fertile lands? People will move inland and along mountainsides. Exactly. As well - some people have argued that climate change can cause MORE precipitation in some areas and LESS in others. Question: who is to say that the INCREASED preciptation will only fall in undesired areas and the REDUCED precipitation will only be reduced in undesired areas? Generally climate change is simply, well, CHANGE. I though this was something progressives emraced!

Hollywood muscles Canada

Then I don't think that Bunge, Nestle, Robin Hood, etc. should be allowed to do the same thing with my grain, I'd like royalties too. If that doesn't happen, then timmy can sell pirated movies. Listen farm boy. Does someone actually have to explain the concept of intellectual property to you? You are not comparing apples to apples. What you produce: grain, is a COMMODITY. It's is readily producable by anyone with seeds and a tractor all over the world. Movies take TALENT, often one-of-a-kind unique talent. As well, movies are an extremly risky business. They invest in 100 busts for the chance of 5 megahits which pay for the rest of the shit that loses money. If timmy with the camcorder takes away the profit potential of the 5 hits, the investment isn't worthwhile and hundreds of cameramen, makeup artists, lighting technicians, drivers, caterers, costume seamstresses all lose their jobs because timmy wanted to make a few hundred bucks. There is a reason China is a manufacturing power but hasn't INVENTED anything of value over the past 100 years: they have numbers but don't protect intellectual property. ANy civilized mature economy should respect those intellectual property rights of others. -
you're on glue. anyone who credits lower budget deficits - or even surpluses to Chretien or Paul Martin obviously hasn't considered the obvious.

This sounds suspiciously like flat-earth thinking. The ruthless attempt to cut off debate not only has the hallmarks of flat-earth thinking, but is blatantly unscientific. REAL science encourages debate, questions and challenges to theory.

The spirit of this thread is this: Besides a whole bunch of tongue wagging, are people really willing to change their lives over this thing. I have a suspicion that it's all a bunch of hooey. I know this poll will likely attract the 4 people who actually bought a hybrid on this site. But still I want to know if anyone out there really cares enough to make major changes in their life...

Conservative Spending - Out of Control
JerrySeinfeld replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Everett DirksenThe simplistic mindset of the Right (and Left) in Canada is that it's bad to borrow. As long as a government doesn't borrow, then in this mindest, the government is fiscally competent. Not. At the moment, the federal government is rolling in dough. Unemployment is down to a historic low of 6.1%, the economy is booming and all manner of tax revenues are up. The guys in Ottawa are flush with cash. And unfortunately, they're spending it. A billion or so for a Toronto subway. A billion or so for airplanes. Another billion or so of mad money for the provincial governments. Stephen Harper has morphed into minority PM PM, circa 2005. That might be a small indication to Harper that this is not a politically winning strategy. It's certainly not a winning strategy for Canada's economy or Canada in general. I have a simple idea: Governments in Canada spend too much money. I don't care about government deficits, debts or taxes. Because of the nature of government, they're largely irrelevant. What does matter is what government buys. And our governments spend too much. Canada, this wonderfully civilized place that has existed for centuries, certainly longer than Ottawa, needs less government. I voted Conservative because I want politicians to say no. Harper is saying yes, far too often. Newsflash - this is a minority government facing an election at some point in the near future. nuff said. -
The Great Global Warming Swindle
JerrySeinfeld replied to dlkenny's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thats kind of a non-answer. Depending on the ice core samples used, some indicate that the CO2 concentrations have not been this high for almost 800 000 years. None show that it has. Its not that something changed 400 000 years ago, its that the ice core samples only go so far back. So I ask again, what has changed in the last 100 years to increase the CO2 in the atmosphere that hasn't occured in the last 400 000? At the current rate, we could be seeing concentrations in the region of 600 to 800 ppm by 2100. Where is this extra CO2 coming from? Why isn't it remaining balanced like it has for the previous hundreds of thousands of years? You're splitting hairs. Look at the big picture: saying there is more CO2 in the air today and saying that it's warmer -- especially when CO2 is a very small component of GHGs -- is tantamount to saying the aids crises in africa was caused by the fall of communism in russia. Just because they coincide in time doesn't show a causal relationship. And yuo're missing the most important part of the film: the fact that this mass hysteria and demonizing of critics is NOT the "scientific way". It's political. -
The Great Global Warming Swindle
JerrySeinfeld replied to dlkenny's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is the best thing I've seen in a long time in this insanely left wing world. hooray! I have started many threads on here to bring some balance to the fanatical religion of climate change and this film does a far better job. I love it when they quote the lead author of the IPCC!!!! -
That's totally unscientific and absolutely hilarious. I want more. As serious as the loser left takes itself on saving the world, stories like that are just superb irony.
-
Give them research money.
-
Given that water vapor is 97% of the total greehouse gases, it is hard to see CO2 having much influence. You know the one that really makes me laugh? The goobers who say the ocean is a "carbon sink" - completely ignoring the fact that the ocean also happens to be the single largest contributor of greenhouse gases into the world's atmosphere: ie. water vapor.

A simple question about snow
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in The Rest of the World
They stop using the phrase global warming because since 1998.The warming trend has flattened out. So they went to a new phrase climate change which can mean ANYTHING. You do realize that climate is ALWAYS CHANGING. Do you? Indeed. The last time I checked we haven't even reached the high temperatures of past centuries. Look at the above link - climate change is the only constant throughout history - LONG before smokestacks ever came along. -
Hmmm, the founder of one of the hardest fighting and most successful businesses in history is a leftist? He made his money and he deserves to give it to whatever cause he sees fit. That doesn't make him a leftist. That makes him the ultimate icon of what a successful businessman should be. No shit. How did I know cordouroy bob...er I mean BLACK DOG would take his eyes off the "plumpers" magazine at his internet cafe job long enough to scour the internet for an example of a businessman who gave some money to charity and gaze proudly at his work like he's actually said something profound.

I didn't read all of this but I'm assuming it's a "DOGGY WANTS TO LOOK LIKE HE WENT TO COLLEGE" boring version of "I wish I had wit" Cheers - I'm off.

One of the first rules of writing is to know one's audience. If my replies are trite, consider the dreck I have to work with. You have an unhealthy obsession with my daily activities. If you actually lived in the same city as me (and weren't, as I suspect, 13 years old) I'd be a little squicked out. ookaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. careful - the lentils are falling out of your castro beard. don't you have a "taliban back into afghanistan" rally to go whine at? i'm off for a friday beer. have a great weekend all!
-
Yep. That's why doggy's such a sniveller at his internet cafe job.
-
In addition to the glaring need for remedial logic and reading comprehension training, it seems you also need a brush-up on stats. A sample size of one is not sufficient to draw conclusions from. Again, DOGGY, with the enlightening a new information. Your contributions to this forum are a shining example of stating the obvious. Let's see so far today you've burst onto the scene with the shocking revelations that: 1. Not all Muslims are Terrorists and 2. A sample of one doesn't comprise statistical significance What's next? The sky is blue? sidenote: I fugured it out..I KNOW now what you are: you're the guy behind the counter at an internet cafe. how else would you have the time to sit around and pretend yuo know something all fucking day long hahahahahahaha
