If you look at the billions in play at Copeenhagen, research grants, government programs, greeen jobs czars, cap n tax, you'd notice the amount of money in which the enviro-activists and biased researchers are wetting their beaks makes the oil-funded counter-lobby look like a pittance. Get your facts straight: the real money's in warm-mongering, not in fighting against the warm-mongers. You don't think Jim Hoggan (started desmog blog) is living a great life? His biggest client is The Suzuki Foundation. Hoggan has made a fortune doing PR work for enviro lobbies. I know people who work at his firm, and he is a rich MoFo, enjoying his mid-life crisis motorcycling down the california coastline, throwing lavish partiees at his West Vancouver mansion,, all in the name of "saving the planet". Certainly nobody should begrudge him for making a buck (even if it means making a living on half truths, fear mongering and crucifying your enemies). But to create your own reality where the "deniers" are mere profiteers and your side is pure virtue is folly. Follow the money. And there's a whole lot morre of it on the fear mongers' side than there is coming from oil companies. Heck, Millor has, by your own accounts, made "thousands" of dollars from oil companies since "the early 90's". Am I the only one that sees that as remarkably small? Al Gore's a billionnaire for crying out loud.

Don't let people from calgary fool you about the weather, it can be brutal, eespecially in the winter. It's not uncommon for Calgary to get a day or two of snow in May or June, and even sometimes in July. Usually Calgarians will say the winters are "mild". Don't believe it. I think they believe this to be the case because their perspective on the winter comes in the context of a comparison to the city 2.5 hours' drive to the North, Edmonton. But saying your winters are "mild" compared to Edmonton's isn't saying much at all. Calgary winters can suffer through extended periods (2-3 weeeks in a row) of days on end with weather with highs in the -15 (celsius) to -25C range, and with lows in the -25C to -35 range. These "cold snaps" may be only once or twice in the winter, but they can also last for weeks making it unbearably cold - and even life threatening if you get caught outside without a car. That said, Calgary does enjoy what are known as "Chinooks" - short interludes between cold snaps in which the city's temperature can rise dramatically, even to highs in the low to mid teens celsius for a day or two. But again, don't be fooled. There are two things you need to know about chinooks: first, they're usually very short. And secondd, they'rre not really that "warm". While +13C sounds fairly balmy in the dead of January, it's not in Calgary. That's because a chinook is essentially a "warm" wind that blows down off the rocky mountains (caused by some kind of physics related to the change in elevation of moisture laden air masses). But "warm" is a relative term - compared to, say -25C. So the thermometer might say "+12C", but anyone who's stood outside in Calgary filling up your gas tank in a gale force cold wind knows how fast you run back into your car to take shelter from the unpleasantness of the constant, relentless chinook wind (which, by the way, also helps melt snow REALLY fast - just like anyone who's ever done the science experiment of putting some pure alcohol on your hand then blowing on it can attest). The switch from bitterlyy cold to chinook conditions can make the "average" daily high temperature in Calgary look reasonable, but just be awaree, ALberta winters, whether you're in Calgary or in Edmonton, are long and ridiculously cold, with the odd interlude of thaw. Chicago may be "Thee Windy City", but Calgary is "The Windiest City". You'll live, though. About a million Calgarians do every year, and remain convinced of the illusion that they live in the best city in Canada. Maybee you'll drink the kool-aid too! Good luck!

The New Black Panthers/Voter Intimidation
JerrySeinfeld replied to lukin's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I don't come on this site mouch anymore. However, once in awhile, when bored, I'll be watching the news and something like a black panther saying "kill cracker's babies" will cause me to say "hey, I wonder how the lefty loons on Mapleleaf are going to rationalize this one". And I visit the site, and sure enough, am never dissappointed. Hey lefty loons: stop being so predictable. Some things are objectively wrong. I know your knee jerk multiculti training has conditioned you to explain away every bizarre behavior as "rich white guy's fault", but come now. Get serious. -
Actually it's become quite common for females to avoid areas populated by certain "communities" known for their treatment of women - especially those women not covered up. Some women in the burbs of Paris even wear hijabs if they are non muslim to avoid abuse and aggression like this. Look it up. It[s a tragic fact of non-assimilated immigration: ie. Multiculturalism's ugly under belly.

Thats not true. Tea partiers are generally more educated, higher income people than the norm.

Car Bomb found in Times Square
JerrySeinfeld replied to a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
As per usual - just like the Fort Hood Massacre, the media and law enforcement are assuring us it's not terrorism. Yea. I think there is already a thread on this topic: Hint - Viacom and Southpark are located in the area. -
We keep being told terrorism is not a purely Islamic phenomenon. So let's talk numbers.

Careful, Argus. You're overestimating your understanding of America and Americans. This above statement makes that obvious. America was founded on a far different premise than was Canada. If you understood the fundamental mistrust of and repulsion from government that exists in the hearts of huge swaths of Americans, you wouldn't have phrased your above reply as you did. In Greece and Canada and Paris, they take to the streets demanding more from the government. America is the only place left where they take to the streets demanding LESS from the government, telling the government to get off their back and leave them alone. God bless 'em.

Gee. Yet another example of anti Islamic activity. -
Lesbian teacher told to work from home
JerrySeinfeld replied to a topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I don't approve of two lesbians having a baby. That kid is gonna end up f*cked up. That said, althogh we should all have the freedom to send our kids to a school where they are not exposed to this kind of crap, I will concede that perhaps they should not get funding. Although on the other side of the same coin, since when should lesbians have access to funding and Catholics excluded simply for their beliefs? We all have beliefs. It's telling about where our society is headed when the Toronto Gay Pride Parade gets heaps of money but people want a Catholic girls school in Vancouver cut off. -
That may be. But often the focus seems to be on curtailing the harsher effects of Capitalism. Unfortunately, one of the effects of socialism and bigger government is that it begets even more government; socialism has a "creeping" aspect to it which is rarely scaled back. As a result can we agree that it's also important to curtail rampant growth of government? A good example would be Ralph Klein in the 90's, acting aggressively to cut government spending and, ultimately, taxes. Of course the example of what happens when you don't do this is what's happing in Europe with the PIGS (portugal Ireland Greece and Spain).

It sounds closer to equity investment than a loan. A loan typically has interest payments and a final principal repayment, divided up as such. Whereas equity ownership means you get the ongoing benefit of cashflows from operations. It's like Canada is buying more shares in the bridge than the US. Probably a good investment. Infractstructure usually is very safe.

Airport scanners a waste of money
JerrySeinfeld replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's face it, with the lineups now at most airports for "security", some Al Qaida whackjob could do just as much damage standing in line for security as he cuold on the plane. -
Eurabia Alert: "Teacher attacked after al-Qaeda comments," from AFP, March 9 (thanks to Pamela): and a Jewish Teacher in France: Keep those eyes shut, Michael. Feels better that way, doesn't it? All warm and fuzzy and ...completely at odds with reality
-
Oh I see, so we need MORE Obamas. Gotcha...'cause Carteer wasn't enough Or perhaps we could all face the truth - those who attack and hate USA don't care who the President is. Bush understood this. That's what the smartypants at Berkley and Columbia and the Democratic party can never quite grasp: it's not about us hating them; it's about them hating us. No self-hating wester society-flagellating left winger will ever be able to grasp this until he looks upward from his belly-gazing.

This is simply a straw man. No where have I said "all Muslims are by definition hateful and intolerant" Please show me where I have said this? I am simply providing a real world example of what is happening inside a Muslim school in the west. Is this a cause for concern for you? If not, why not?

Muslims threatening television producers with death, Muslims killing filmmakers, Muslims (the Canadian Islamic Congress, to be clear) trying to crush freedom of speech in Canada, , Muslims killing schoolkids in Beslan, Chechnya, Muslims blowing up nightclubs in Bali, Muslims blowing up trains in Madrid, Muslims burning Dutch embassies, Muslims shooting nuns in somalia,, Muslims killing innocent civilians in London Tube,, Muslims killing their own comrades in the USAMuslims bombing planes on xmas day, Muslims beheading reporters, Muslims rioting in Paris.....Yes, yes. I'm certain it's my intolerance that must be curbed. Yes, I'm sure that's it. Because what's truly important isn't stopping real violence in real places, but rather the serious work of stopping someone from pointing out said violence in cyberland. What a crusader: diverting attention from real acts of hate to point the finger at honest citizens. With each passing day, with each new occurence of violence, your platitudes of tolerance become more and more empty. But keep repeating them, Michael. Like a mantra. Keep sayin it. Maybe if you just keep on saying it you can make it so in your own mind. Defining your problem is simple, really. The first step to a better place is admitting you have a problem. That's all I'm here for, Michael. I'm giving you an intervention. You're not fooling anyone - just lying to yourself, really.
-
WHich brings us back to the Muslim school in Britain, teaching it's pupils that Jews are monkeys and Christians are pigs. What part of "tolerance" suggests that you think this is an ok practice?
-
I don't see it as arrogant to choose a 4 hour voyage versus 4 days just because I want to go visit aunt Betty in Vermont. That's the problem with envirronmentalists - they think living a decent life is a sin. Guilt is their middle name. Again - self hating. How about this: relax. The world is doing fine.
-
Exactly - the volcano was a natural occurence. So Sid and Nancy do gooder green just bought a new hybrid and then some icelandic volcano singlehandedly doubles the carbon footprint of a mid-sized industrial nation in a matter of minutes. And we have control? Not. The planet will be fine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOOc5yiIWkg&feature=related

It doesn't mean they don't consider you inferior. The Muslims I know like me fine too. And from time to time they make offhanded remarks like "white is the lowest common denominator", or if I order pork make comments that Im eating swine, or "brown is the future, white is the past"...all supposedly in jest, yet if uttered by a white christian would be considered by many of the tolerance police on this board as racist. You need to at least acquaint yourself with the possibility that your spoonfed ultra tolerance platitudes aren't entirely accurate, and that it's not just white people capable of supremicist attitudes. And that it is possible, perhaos even likely, that other groups are as guilty or more guilty of these attitudes than are white people in today's Canada.
-
In case you haven't been paying attention, it's not about anyone not liking Muslims. Rather it's about Muslims not liking you.
