I don't remember if it mentioned which planets, but I'm to assume they were the seat of the New Republic. Perhaps the idea behind such a strategy would be akin to wiping out Ottawa or Washington if one were bent on taking over Canada/United States, in that, you might wipe out the capital full of politicians versus actual productive areas. My question, we have the bad guy First Order left overs from the Empire, but why is there a New Republic (that just got nuked) and a new Rebel Force? Hubris I suppose.......on reflection, without Finn's knowledge as a garbageman, they wouldn't have been able to destroy it.- 65 replies

I didn't suggest such revolutions were "successful" in solving equality. Any "civilized" (or not so civilized) society is maintained by the use of or threat of force...... with guns. As Mao's communist party said, political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.

I don't know, the Fett's seemed pretty capable putting up a good fight against Jedi.......maybe Silver Women is related to the Fett's? Never thought about that.......maybe he's a little guy like Yoda. Darth Vader? That's what my son thinks........would explain how Ren got his mask.....maybe he didn't die on the Death Star and Luke set him up in a Jedi witness protection program and faked his death What I want to know is how that little female alien got Luke/Anakin's lightsaber that Luke dropped from the cloud city.......- 65 replies

Turned out well? That's subjective, but I'd cite any People's Revolution over the last 100 years.

I don't think the timeline would work out........the time between New Hope through Return of the Jedi and Force Awakenings has to be 20+ years for Kylo Ren to have grown up, Rey has to be younger than Ren...- 65 replies

Yup, the wife picked it up during the movie.....googled it after and it turns out he was filming the latest Bond at the same studio in England. My wife has read that nearly the entire cast from Force Awakens is signed onto the next film, including the actress that played Phasma and.......Harrison Ford (flashback or blue ghost???)- 65 replies

I think so.....why else give a stormtrooper a notable role? I liked Daniel Craig's cameo as the Trooper Rey used her Jedi mind tricks on though.- 65 replies

A better question (thought of by my wife), if she is his daughter, why does she have a British accent? In the Star Wars universe, the Imperials tend to have British accents, with the Rebels an American accent.......I'd assume this was a purposeful contrast by Lucas, to signify the Imperials coming from the center of the (Star Wars) universe, and the rebels coming from the outer colonies.... Could Luke have knocked up an Imperial?- 65 replies

I'm not wishing (or supportive) of such a movement, and frankly, I don't think enough of this generation has the stones to do it.

Another example would be the Native American occupation of Alcatraz during the Nixon administration........the result, which is often overlooked, the Nixon administration ceded a whack of land to Natives across the West, in addition to more local control and governance on Native land.......and the most noteworthy, the massive Alaskan land claims settlement, which to this day has had largely positive results for Alaska's three major native peoples. -
I do think poverty directly equates to (gun) crime............as to an armed economic redress, its been done in other countries.

I'd didn't think it was a bad movie, but in my opinion, didn't live up to anywhere near the hype. I felt it too predictable, maybe not a reboot, but a remix of the original Star Wars. I felt the actress that played Rey did a a good job, I felt Kylo Ren was bad as in school shooting bad, Finn started off alright, but the second half would have been better if they killed him off instead of Han Solo (but I understand that Harrison Ford is too rich and doesn't want to make anymore Star Wars movies).......liked the little BB8 droid, the pilot Poe (my wife really liked him) and Chewie of course......My son heard a rumor that Benicio del Toro will be in the next one........older Boba Fett? We'll go see the next one, but probably wait for cheap night.- 65 replies

Of course it is.......your point? -
They could, but again (in my opinion) based on the actual crime numbers, reducing poverty and violence associated with the drug trade would be far more effective in drastically reducing gun crime. Perhaps if we're looking at the mass shootings, but far more gun crime is committed in inner cities awash in poverty and gang violence.........if a further concentrated effort was made to address said troubled areas, the American (gun) homicide and violent crime rates would plummet.

Discussing the similarities between the Oka standoff (or Waco, Ruby Ridge etc) and the resulting violence, contrasted with this current standoff in Oregon isn't a derail. What is a derail is you broaching conspiracy theories, sans evidence. If you wish to discuss Oka conspiracies, who killed Kennedy, if Martians landed in Roswell or if Professional Wrestling is fake, start another thread. I won't continue on with you here. -

Unknown as in they weren't able to determine which Mohawk warrior killed him.......... -
Without a doubt, but then none that I know of suggest everyone should be forced to be armed. In my opinion, the American Revolutionary War was won not by the Patriots having better muskets or tactics on the battlefield, but by them having access to printing presses.........the free exchange of thoughts and information trumps firepower any day, but combine the two, and you'd have greased lightning
-
Of course not, but both are an action based on a statistically unfounded fear(s), one simply takes less effort. Where did I say that? I think if someone felt they should be armed to protect their family, based on any given circumstances, and they elected not to, then that is not acting responsibly.
-
What fears? As I said, I would assume most armed Americans are less fearful. I thought you were going to explain the difference.........do you consider a society fearful of uninsured house fires and leaving their homes unlocked a sick society?
-
I would assume they would be less afraid being armed.........like how people are less afraid with a locked door or insurance covering their contents. That's why I asked you to explain it.......a firearm for self defense is viewed as a form of insurance for many gun owners in the United States.
-
......of bodily harm By all means, and please include why you value/fear loss of possessions more so than your own life or the lives of your family members.
