  1. Perhaps from a building fire alone, but clearly with the inclusion of tons of aluminum (from the airliner) combined with jet fuel and water, the end result is a far hotter fire, including thermal explosions from liquid aluminium being rapidly cooled by water. Again the theory is based on a conventional "office fire", when in actual fact, the scenario is more befitting of other comparisons: The attack (and sinking) of HMS Sheffield was directly a result of a kinetic impact (the Exocet ASM) and the inability of the crew to control a supper hot fire created by the ignition of the ships aluminum hull......the warhead of the missile didn't even explode, but its fuel did (rocket fuel is comprised of powdered aluminum for that mater), the ensuing fire melted portions of the ships hull, combining both sea water and water used (incorrectly) to fight the fire.....aluminum fires (or most metal and alloys) are not fought with water, likewise metal fires result in thick grey/white smoke.... Now applying this to the WTC, we have large amounts of aluminum, combined with jet fuel, that would start the initial fire (in addition to fuel sources found within your cited building fires) and explosions, with water later introduced (from fire sprinklers and burst plumbing and heating lines), resulting in a far hotter and explosive fire (then found in your building fires), which though may not have melted structural steel, but made it far more weaker........likewise, aluminum is a far greater conductor of heat (than steel or concrete), which would also help spread the fire faster. This is one of the reasons firefighters at airports don't use water (but chemical foam) to fight aircraft fires, likewise, why modern navies use little to no aluminum in warship construction.....and is why a super hot fire occurred, and led to the collapse of the WTC towers........
  2. Something to be proud of is open to debate.......I prefer calling a spade a spade and dispensing with the Liberal narrative that is propagated into Canadian culture, post Fuddle Duddle, of a Utopian Canada that never was.
  3. Right here........The Chinese have been (until recently surpassed by India) the largest importer of arms in the World, a common theme due to their lesser technological progress domestically......Israel, who will sell near anything to anyone, after the Russians, are the second largest exporter to the PRC. Your articles don't disprove it, but highlight past concerns (as indicated in my link) from the US Government over Israeli arms exports and Western technology transfer to Israel............Ironically, a concern once shared by the French (who also export to near anyone) who once were the largest importer of arms to Israel.....which Israel pirated and sold as their own......much like the Chinese do today with nearly everything.
  4. You bet......Dow Chemical's Montreal plant, just outside of PET's own riding, was one of the largest producers of Vietnam bound napalm.....likewise their production of agent's blue, orange and white, later also tested within Canada, for use in Vietnam.
  5. After the Russians, Israel is the second largest defense technology provider to China.......everything from search and fire control radars, military grade communications, to NVG and small arms optics.....
  6. I highly doubt the United Kingdom would move counter to the United States, even with an election looming.
  7. Depends on the Iranians level of efficiency in their bomb making and enrichment........70 years ago, Fat Man and Little Boy required ~60-70 kg each of Uranium, but only ~2% of the material was actually fissioned..........If one were to assume Iran has access to Wikipedia, Iran is likely to attempt to develop an implosion device (as every other nuclear power has since the Second World War) which is far more efficient and would require ~1/3rd the level of uranium (or ~20-25 kg) per (low yield) bomb........... At best worse, if Iran were capable and received recipe books from other nuclear powers, with 300 kg of enriched uranium, the might be able to produce ~5-10 low yield bombs, or about the size of South Africa's former arsenal.........enough to carve out a good chunk of a modern city if mated with a viable delivery device...which is another hurdle if the Iranians want a deterrent capable of going toe-to-toe with the Israelis.
  8. Yet, shotguns, per the FBI, kill annually as many people as rifles (including AR-15s)........are you disputing facts obtained from the FBI? Likewise, AR-15s and its larger cousin the AR-10, are used by millions to hunt game every year lawfully..... Continuing an over 100 year tradition of the use of semi-auto rifles and shotguns used in sport hunting.
  9. ArmaLite Rifle model # 15 Yet, per the FBI, more Americans are killed annually by clubs and hammers versus rifles of any type (including AR-15s)......and Americans are killed equally by both rifles (including AR-15s) and shotguns. And of course, the shooter that killed 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard several years ago, a mass shooting on a military base to boot, utilized a Remington 870 pump action shotgun......likewise, 9 years ago, the Capital Hill mass shooting in Seattle saw the shooter use a Winchester 1300 pump action shotgun.....then there's these two, and their his and her's Browning Auto-5 shotguns:
  10. And the point was made to further the discussion........like a firearms registry, the banning of certain type of firearms is also pointless, as pointed out with New Zealand currently, and to a lesser extent Canada, with the private ownership of automatic weapons......... If a lawful and sane citizen has a license, and uses them is a safe manner, what does it mater to you? In New Zealand one can purchase such firearms, and in Canada right now, some own them perfectly legally.......despite this, the streets aren't running red with blood from lawfully owned automatic firearms.......yet deaths from speeding is a near daily occurrence.
  11. In Western States (United States, New Zealand etc) where they are legal, that is not true.......typical retail prices range from $5000-$20000+, in addition, a single 1 second mag dump will use $15-30 dollars worth of ammo.......Likewise, as to owners caring for them, I don't know of a single case of a legally obtained automatic firearms ever being used in a crime in New Zealand or Canada (when they were more commonplace 30+ years), and even in the United States, the last time was the North Hollywood shootout nearly 20 years ago........
  12. And why most combat shotguns have a bayonet lug...........and the viable use of automatics, unlike what is shown in tv and movies, is as an area denial and suppressive fire weapon.....the only reason modern military rifles and carbines will have an automatic selection is to act as a poor-man's machine gun......even then, within NATO, most services either opted for (3 round) burst fire (instead of fully auto) or in many cases, operators of larger .30 caliber rifles (M-14 or FN FAL) would remove the selector switch leaving the rifle as semi-automatic only, as was found in fully automatic, very little would be hit (due to muzzle rise) and finite ammo was wasted.
  13. That is not true........a modern combat shotgun will carry 8-9 shells, that when loaded with 00, equates to 72-81 larger projectiles, that due to their sheer size have a greater felt impact......shot dispersal (spread) is also dependent upon the choke on the gun, in the case of a combat shotgun, the use of a cylinder bore which disperses the pattern over 3-4 lengths of the gun (9-12 feet)............combat reloads also don't take long, with very little practice, ensuring the gun a near cyclic rate of fire............As to "indoor mass murder", or CQB, all modern police and military entry teams, worldwide, are equipped with shotguns for a reason Despite what is shown in movies and tv, automatic weapons are very inaccurate and hard for a well trained professional to use effective, let alone a nut-bar off his meds.
  14. US Department of Defense...........As it turned out, the author who penned the Bin Laden raid book was never there, and most, if not all of the SEALS that were, died soon after in a helicopter crash......... ----- As said, and pointed out by others, your ability to identify shotguns (or any firearms) is in doubt due to your own words.......
  15. Nope........you're regaling a false and often repeated tale proven false...........And your gun spying skills leave lots to be desired....do you remember several members, that don't claim to know much at all about guns, correcting you in the Moncton thread, in which you claimed the shooter to be carrying two "assault rifles", even though its clear as day (and later proven) that he carried a main battle rifle and a shotgun......we can revisit the thread if you like? M4s, 870s and Mossberg 500 shotguns are in the inventory of all the NATO partner nations involved in combat in Afghanistan..
  16. Exactly, fully automatic and burst fire weapons are used for area suppression in combat......aimed shots are still typically from the selector placed in semi-auto......despite what movies, tv and video games depict, soldiers don't have endless supplies of ammo, likewise most modern combat rifles (M-16s, AK-47s, M-14s etc), after sustained automatic fire, will suffer permanent barrel damage and can overheat and cause rounds to cook-off in the chamber/magazine (with the M-16 platform, this poses a danger after the ~120+ cyclic round mark).
  17. One in each modern rifle squad typically........Bin Laden was killed by a SEAL's shotgun.
  18. A 6-shot 12 gauge, loaded with 00 buck, will put 54 .33 caliber projectiles, with a terminal velocity of over 1500 ft/lbs, downrange faster than an a AR-15's 30 .22 caliber projectiles with a velocity of 12-1300 ft/lbs..............people survive gunshots from .223/5.56mm from a AR-15s/M-16s/M4s.......not so much a single load of buckshot square to the chest..........
  19. Exactly, and is why a pump action shotgun is the most reliable and effective weapon for home defense, likewise why police forces and armed forces around the World utilize shotguns for close quarter battle......
  20. But, the German doctor did see signs of mental illness.......privacy rights prevented said information from going any further......Of course, in Canada and New Zealand, for licensed gun owners, such rights to privacy are waived as (what I find) a reasonable accommodation. Hence safe storage laws in both countries..........of course such things can also be stolen from police or military inventories, or smuggled into the country and sold to criminal elements. Despite this, New Zealand police are mostly unarmed and the country as a whole doesn't have a "gun violence" problem........ Thats your opinion.......of course some could say the same for sports car/bikes, speed boats, ATVs etc, all things that kill far more Canadians and New Zealanders then automatic weapons annually......... Hence the reasonable expectations of some rules governing their ownership and use........
  21. And you can see downsides only because of social conditioning.......The current laws in New Zealand, much like ours, require a license (with criminal and mental health checks), but once approved, if someone so wishes to own a AK-47 with an integrated silencer or a crew serviced WW II Nazi machine gun , they can have at her.......If they're not criminals, nor kooks, and use their firearms safely, in actual fact, what real concern is it of you (or the State)? Canadians of course were also once afforded such rights, now only a very few have such grandfathered endorsements on their licence (12.2 and 12.3 license), this of course changed with the Firearms Act, despite (AFAIK) there not being a single instance of a legally obtained automatic firearm ever being used in a crime in Canada........
  22. Sure........likewise further measures to prevent terror.
  23. Furthered by increases in gun sales by Australians........Australia and New Zealand have similar gun crimes rates, yet in New Zealand, one can not only own semi-autos, but full automatics, silencers and crew serviced machine guns.......
