That's subjective, the broader public in South Western BC don't favor the pipeline. I think they have every intention of getting their way......if/when they do, would you consider the pro pipeline camp as having a tantrum? Inversely, a major tanker spill off the shores of Greater Vancouver would have far greater economic impact to British Columbia then the upside of allowing the increase in tanker traffic. Ahh but there are ways to mitigate risk........for example, shipping bitumen versus shipping refined products. Bitumen sinks and is impossible to clean up in the ocean, versus refined products that float and (for the most part) will evaporate after several days. Cherry point receives Alaskan crude and ships out refined products.......both less risky then raw bitumen in the advent of a spill. See spill response in Bella Bella Sure, but even with the massive upgrades to Port of Vancouver and Deltaport, shipping has only increased ~3-4%........the increased capacity of Kinder Morgan's pipeline will see traffic increase from ~5 tankers a month to over 30......what's that? An increase of 500+%?

Yes. Is he? I know he was born a Catholic, but I'd assume he's long since moved to the heathen Atheist camp???

That makes no sense....... we are born with either male or female parts, any bonus items (or parts missing) are a manufacturer defect.....those with gender identity issues have poorly wired brain boxes, often down a quart of manufacturer required fluids, aside from voiding any warranty, this degrades optimal performance...... .......As a society we shouldn't change attitudes to reflect the wishes of the mentally ill, inversely we should have laws to protect and look after them, as in most cases they aren't able to do so for themselves.
-
You mean move away from science? -Or- as society we would be encouraging the narcissistic delusions of the mentally ill........no different then attempting to listen to the "voices" caused (and only heard) by schizophrenia.
-
Those are but factors, but would be mooted by legal challenges, (further) loss of political and public support and of course civil disobedience.......at the end of the day Oka and Clayoquot resulted in a win for protesters.........even when the State wins, like in Gustafsen Lake, it will cost an immense amount of money.......several dozen (armed) protesters, over a month period, forced the Government to deploy hundreds of RCMP and spend millions of dollars......imagine the response when Grand Chief Stewart Phillip and the various other Treaty Nations start blockading the pipeline.......Trudeau will need the Army......and in the day of social media and smartphones, once Trudeau has the Canadian Army start bashing skulls he has already lost....
-
To remove them sure, use the police.......not the army. There are plenty of reasons, namely the 10% chance over a 25 year period (as noted by Kinder Morgan in their application) of a spill of a product that can't be cleaned up or the extinction of the local Orca pod caused by the increase in supertanker traffic.......if our "world class spill response" requires over a month to partially clean-up a sunk tugboat off Bella Bella, destroying the local fishery in the interim, what is going to happen if a Super Tanker runs aground in the Georgia or Juan de Fuca straits? What of the Burrard inlet? For British Columbia, we take nearly all the risk and receive little benefit........as such, there are plenty of reasons to oppose it as is, like those protesting have every right to be angry at the Trudeau government's political grift. But if you're serious, I'll tell you right now, as currently proposed, the pipeline won't be built........The First Nations were able to halt Northern Gateway through the courts and public pressure, I have no doubt they will succeed yet again........if not through the courts and politics, as I said: At the end of the day Kinder Morgan will require investors, and with mounting legal challenges, next to no local political support and large public outcry, the pipeline is already a risky investment in a sluggish oil market.
-
Doubly so when the Minster is speaking to a crowd of oilmen......reeks of aristocratic oligarchy. After hearing an interview on local radio with Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, I think its already "on"......... Threatening the use of the army on protesters is only going to inflame things, well also putting members of the Armed Forces in a tough spot.........Trudeau wanted a Peacekeeping Mission.....I bet he didn't figure it being in British Columbia. The Oka crisis came about by a developer trying to build a golf course on First Nations land.........the golf course was never built. Sure, and that would go over like a lead balloon........doesn't mean a Minister should be uttering such a threat on such a mater that amounts to providing security for Kinder Morgan. Its nothing more then an escalation that will only inflame a situation that hasn't even gone before the courts......... Just watch him.........

Still Going to Buy the F-35, Really?
Derek 2.0 replied to Hoser360's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The next phase of unmanned flight will be reliant upon technology developed for the F-35..........until they develop a completely autonomous aircraft, the limiting factor (for remotely piloted UAVs) will always be awareness, bandwidth and the curvature of the Earth. -

Not really, for fighters, there are no real advantages for a boom (larger types can take advantage of a faster discharge rate, but not fighters), and unlike a boom, drogue allows for 2-3 simultaneously refueling aircraft......and as you said, the physical size of the tanker. -

That's subjective for tactical aircraft......... -

Ahh no.........UAVs, to date, have been used far more as ISTAR platforms........as to their situational awareness, attempt walking down (or driving) a busy city street only looking through binoculars....... -

The USN and USMC use probe-drogue refueling.........the proposed unmanned tanker just needs to be able to fly a stable racetrack.........the hard work is done by the receiving aircraft............. -

A promise? Our NORAD commitment is also our NATO commitment, and of the 36 aircraft, we can (and do) utilize them for training, exercises with the Americans and our European NATO partners.....including our Hornets deployed to Eastern Europe. This shortage is nothing but a manufactured crisis for political reasons.......and nobody is buying it, and the Trudeau Liberals are only digging themselves deeper................they best hope none of the gagged start leaking additional info.....leaks never happen at a good time either. -------------------- In F-35 related news, for some reason, the Japanese decided their first F-35 was "ready enough" to take official delivery of and begin training their future pilots...... -
Its already started........this will be a stew of Clayoquot Sound, Oka and Standing Rock.......... Many of the so called "experts" figure Trudeau approved it as a quid pro quo with Notely supporting his carbon tax........but what is Trudeau going to do when a Premier Jason Kenny replaces her? Likewise, if the NDP win the Spring BC election? For the most part, those that support pipelines are squarely already in the Tory camp.........I really don't see what Trudeau expected to gain by this but slit the throats of his Greater Vancouver MPs.....
-
Oh I'm pro pipeline, don't get me wrong.......I even worked for Kinder Morgan a decade ago.......but I'm also a realist, BC has been soured on O&G development by an effective environmental lobby......ergo, the progressive vote rich Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island wouldn't support the pipelines even if David Suzuki was pushing it...... And it depends on the riding, but the Liberals snagged seats from both the NDP and Tories......in some ridings, yes vote splitting, better put NDP supporters returning home, would help the Tories, but more so I'd expect the Tories to regain their more traditional seats (West Vancouver, Coquitlam, much of Surrey and Delta and the interior) with the NDP taking back the more Metro Vancouver seats...... Its two for the price of one......."we" get the pipeline and Trudeau wears it...........I doubt it will even get built, mostly once Trump approves Keystone XL.
-
So what? Line 3 doesn't run through Greater Vancouver.......tis a slightly different political landscape. Here in BC, we're months away from an election, which could result in an NDP government or a Minority (NDP or Liberal) government with the Greens holding the balance of power......If Clark doesn't return with a majority, the pipeline is dead........and thats forgetting various protests and legal challenges that will bog down Kinder Morgan if it gets Provincial support. Unless the BC NDP manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again, Kinder Morgan, lack of the promised LNG development and the Site C dam should be enough to finish off Clark.
-
And a more specific, recent, poll of BC residents: And in tight three way races in Greater Vancouver that would result in the Tories and NDP clawing back the seats they lost to the Liberals......furthermore: On the local News Radio station they had on this afternoon the Victoria Mayor and someone from the Sierra Club, they both submit that the huge increase in tanker traffic will drive away the local Juan de Fuca Orca pod.......I don't know if its true or not, but that won't mater for the anti pipeline protesters.........for the life of me, I've no idea why he would approve it now, not only does it put his buddy Premier Clark in a tough spot (Trudeau's rich Chinese friends also donate to the BC Liberals), but the whole Standing Rock protest is in the forefront right now........the professional protesters are going to transplant an American issue into Canada just like they did to Harper......the bitumen is about to hit the fan .........Kinder Morgan, right or wrong, will be to Trudeau what Northern Gateway was to Harper... As for BC Liberal MPs: Beech, is the Liberal MP that represents the riding that has the Kinder Morgan facility in.........and I'll bet if he doesn't cross the floor to the NDP, the NDP take the riding back.
-
BC First Nations bands, Lizzy May, University students that can walk down Burnaby Mt to the Kinder Morgan terminus, the Mayors of Vancouver, Burnaby and Victoria, the leaders of the BC NDP and Green parties and even Premier Clark is distancing her government from Trudeau (everyone expected him to hold off approving it until after the BC election)........and of course, upwards of 2/3rds of British Columbians, including 75% of lower mainland residents, that reside in ridings the Federal Liberals won't have a hope in hell in now in 2019.
