  1. The local school's political club was playing hockey on a pond in a park in Toronto raising money for charity, when one is attacked by a rabid Rottweiler. Thinking quickly, another boy takes his stick, wedges it down the dogs collar and twists, breaking the dogs neck. A reporter who was strolling by sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy. "Young Liberal Supporter Saves Friend From Vicious Animal," he starts writing in his notebook. "But I'm not a Liberal supporter," the little hero replied. "Sorry, since we are in Toronto, I just assumed you were." said the reporter and starts again. "Little NDP Supporter Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack" he continued writing in his notebook. "I'm not a NDP supporter either," the boy said. "I assumed everyone in Toronto was either for the Liberal or NDP supporter."What political party do you root for?" the reporter asked. "I'm a Quebec Bloc supporter." the child said. The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes, "Little French Bastard from Montreal Kills Beloved Family Pet.
  2. I too am in favour of good programs, unfortunately when the morgage on the country sits at $500 billion I get kinda worried for my kids and their kids and their kids. It's one thing to tax the population, but quite another to create programs that go nowhere like the day care program that Dryden is starting. He said: As for long-term child-care costs: "You really don't know," he said with trademark candour. "In fact, you don't need to know because the future's going to decide it. "I realize that's not particularly satisfying, but that's how it'll work. That's how systems get created. That's how they evolve." You don't need to know, because the future's going to decide it? Is this the best way to handle a program. The future decided the gun registry, was it not time to stop pouring money into it and redirect it to something more worthy? Or the excess billions that people put into the unemployment fund, where did that go to help people, other than into general revenue. Those dollars could have helped the employed/unemployed people with day care needs. It just seems government doesn't think things through enough,12 years we waited for programs and now with a minority government they seem to produce programs at a whim. This worries me. Why can't the government accept that some of their ideas for these programs are flawed and admit to them and correct them in the interest of Canadians and not carrying on with them in the interest of retaining power.
  3. What about the idea of tax credits for parents so they can decide how/what daycare suits them best? The Dryden plan is fine for those that work 9-5,Monday to Friday, but what about shift workers or people who have to work week-ends or irregular hours. Not everybody can take advantage of these day care centres if they are not in the 9-5 group. How do we help those folks?
  4. The Social Minister Ken Dryden doesn't appear to be enthused with his child care plan according to this interview: http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/LondonFreePr...084259-sun.html With statements like: As for long-term child-care costs: "You really don't know," he said with trademark candour. "In fact, you don't need to know because the future's going to decide it. "I realize that's not particularly satisfying, but that's how it'll work. That's how systems get created. That's how they evolve." Is this the best way a government should create a "system", not needing to know where it is going and letting the future decide it's fate? Are we heading down the road to an endless money pit for Child care, just like the Gun Registry?Or should there be a better road for Child Care to follow?
  5. It was election time, again. So, a politician decided to go out to the local reservation to gather support from the first nation people. They were all assembled in the Council Hall to hear the speech. The politician had worked up to his finale, and the crowd was getting more and more excited. "I promise better education opportunities for all first nation people!" The crowd went wild, shouting "Hoya! Hoya!" The politician was a bit puzzled by the native word, but was encouraged by their enthusiasm. "I promise gambling reforms to allow a Casino on the Reservation!" "Hoya! Hoya!" cried the crowd, stomping their feet. "I promise more social reforms and respect for past treaties. And a seat at the first ministers table for all the first nation people!" The crowd reached a frenzied pitch shouting "Hoya! Hoya! Hoya!" After the speech, the politician was touring the Reservation, and saw a tremendous herd of cattle. Since he was raised on a ranch, and knew a bit about cattle, he asked the Chief if he could get closer to take a look at the cattle. "Sure," the Chief said, "but be careful not to step in the hoya."
  6. THELIBERAL, the reason you vote liberal is because you refuse to accept anything but Liberal propaganda. There are good ideas and bad ideas on all sides, this is not a hockey game with the one with most goals wins, this my friend is about what is best for Canadians. If one of the other parties has a better idea on a issue, convince your party to accept it in the interest of Canadians.Dredging up facts that barely support your arguments will not convince anyone but you. Put your brain cells to work, not for the Liberals but for Canadians.
  7. New Liberal Election slogan as spoken by Ken Dryden: you don't need to know because the future's going to decide it. As for long-term child-care costs: "You really don't know," he said with trademark candour. "In fact, you don't need to know because the future's going to decide it. "I realize that's not particularly satisfying, but that's how it'll work. That's how systems get created. That's how they evolve." http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/LondonFreePr...084259-sun.html
  8. Hey there THELIBERAL, find anything about brain transplants? Hope you don't have to wait too long or go outside of Canada when you get yours.
  9. Canada also fell short in high-tech medical devices. The country had 4.5 MRI machines for every million people, well below the OECD average of 7.6 for every million. The number of CT scanners in Canada stood at 10.3 for every million population, below the OECD average of 17.9. Hardly anything to be ranting about, among other things we aren't doing well at..... http://www.canada.com/health/story.html?id...0a-a34edfeef228
  10. A kid was sitting on his lawn with a box of puppies one morning. Paul Martin was on his way to Parliament, accompanied by some reporters. Paul asked the boy what kind of puppies were in the box. The little boy said, "Liberals." The Prime Minister beamed, patted the boy on the head, and said, "Good boy!" A few weeks later Martin walking again, this time with Scott Brison in tow. Martin stopped at the boy's house, winked at Scott and said, "Hey kid, what kind of puppies are in the box?" The boy said, "Conservatives" Martin looked crushed, saying, "What happened? A few weeks ago they were Liberals!" The boy said, "Well, the puppies opened their eyes."
  11. A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Liberal. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were Liberal too. Not really knowing what a Liberal was, but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands flew up into the air. There was, however, one exception. A girl named Lucy had not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.' Because I'm not a Liberal.''Then,' asks the teacher, 'What are you?''Why I'm a proud Conservative,' boasts the little girl. The teacher, a little perturbed and her face slightly red, asked Lucy why sheis a Conservative.'Well, I was brought up to trust in myself instead of relying on an intrusive, money-wasting, scandal-ridden government to care for me and do all of my thinking. My Dad and Mom are Conservatives, and I am a Conservative too.' The teacher, now angry, loudly says, 'That's no reason! What if your Mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?' She pauses, and lets out a smile. 'Then,' Lucy says, 'I'd be a Liberal.'
  12. There is a public/private two-tier model that actually works in Canada - the education system. No one gets all riled up about the fact people can send their kids to Upper Canada College or Rundle College or whatever private school they chose. Everyone in Canada has access to the public school system - it is universal, paid for by taxes, and accessible to all. Those who feel it is not optimum or the best system, or that it is not meeting their kids' needs, still have to pay their taxes to support it, but can opt out and pay extra for their kids to go elsewhere. Just like the public medical system, the public education system does have its drawbacks - big class sizes, many kids with ADHD and learning disabilities needing help, tons of ESL kids who struggle, whatever - but the option to go elsewhere and pay money for a supposedly "better" or more elite experience does not evoke the outrage that privately available medicine does - and is there really a difference? As long as those seeking private health care continue to pay taxes to support the public system, who cares? Resources for public medicine will continue at the same rate. Can you imagine if private education was the pariah that private medicine is? People would be ranting to shut down private schools as un-Canadian and too American. Tommy Douglas and his legacy would be invoked (except it would be Egerton Ryerson.) People should get beyond knee jerk, emotional reactions and try to find workable solutions to systemic problems. What has to happen with public health care is stopping abuse of the system - people with sniffles going to emergency rooms costing $300+ per visit when they really need a family doctor. People going to doctors to get antibiotics when they have a virus. Old people being prescribed multiple medications that interact improperly and cause problems. There needs to be accountability and people have to realize even if they don't hand over a cent, their doctor's visit is NOT free. If Canada had a pro-active wellness system instead of a reactive illness-focused health care system costs would be contained. We need some big changes and not people ruling out options based on ill-founded ideologies and fear of boogeymen.
  13. Seems only the Liberals read the fine print in the$4.5 billion deal. Maybe the NDP don't know Jack. http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Columnists/O...eston/home.html
  14. Our Canadian Health Care system is perfect only for healthy Canadians.
  15. All these years Ralph was the bad guy, with his "third way" idea. Maybe federal Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh should have attended the international conference a couple of months back in Calgary instead of rejecting it. He might have gotten some ideas so the Libs could get a PLAN for health care. Oh I forgot, the PLAN is throw MORE MONEY at health care, that way they could delay dealing with the whole thing. Health care needs some new ideas...today. People need help now. Paul did his thing as finance minister, cutting it down to bare bones. Fourteen years to get it in order and all the Libs did was dither it into the mess it is today.Enough talk, show me the PLAN.

  17. A man on his way home from work at the Parliament buildings came to a dead halt in traffic and thought to himself, "Wow, this traffic seems worse than usual. Nothing's even moving." He notices a police officer walking back and forth between the lines of cars. So he rolls down his window and asks, "Excuse me, Officer, what's the hold up?" The Officer replies, "The Health Minister just found out there was more damaginging evidence on the Grewal tapes against him, the Supreme Court has said two tier health care is okay, and he's all depressed. He stopped his car in the middle of the road and he's threatening to douse himself in gasoline and set himself on fire. He says his constituents hates him and he doesn't have any money for defence lawyers. I'm walking around taking up a collection for him." "Oh really? How much have you collected so far?" "I've got a lot of folks still siphoning; but right now I have about three hundred gallons."
  18. With the RCMP on the take with Adscam, and the Liberal's ethics commissioner Shapiro feeding Judy Sgro information before making a inconclusive decision on her strippergate probe, where do you think the tapes will go? First like Chretien, the RCMP will take forever to come to a conclusion, and second the Liberals will be told by their ethics commissioner that they almost crossed the line, but should be more careful about almost getting caught in the future.
  19. Two Liberal MPs were carrying on a conversation in a restaurant when all of a sudden, one yelled at the other, "You're lying!". The other MP responded, "I know, but hear me out."
  20. Jack Layton finds a magic lamp. He rubs it and out comes a genie. The genie gives Jack one wish. Jack pulls out a map with many ND marks on it and says "I'd like New Democrat support in these Quebec areas." The genie says "You are asking too much of me. Even I can't bring support for the New Democrats to all these Quebec areas." Jack says "Ok. Well, just make me Prime Minister of Canada." And the genie says "Let me see that map again."
  21. Apparently no one is listening to Ed. (CP) story today about the possible cabinet shuffle, the reporter said: "or spark the return of Judy Sgro after the former immigration minister WAS EFFECTIVELY EXONERATED by ethics commissioner Bernard Shapiro." http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2005/06...1079596-cp.html
  22. Watch where the polls go when Martin suspends parliament in the fall while the government writes a new throne speech. So much for Martin telling Canadians it's time to get Parliament working. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2005/06...1079596-cp.html
  23. The organization of any government bureaucracy is very much like a septic tank - the really big chunks always rise to the top.
  24. Yes let's predict Quebec, PQ,let's predict the West, Conservative. There all the predictions are done.
  25. The difference between Conservatives & New Democrats A Conservative and a New Democrat were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person. The Conservative gave the homeless person his business card and told him come to his business for a job. He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person. The New Democrat was very impressed, and when they came to another homeless person, He decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Conservatives pocket and gave him fifty dollars.
