jbg Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 In North Korea, the "leader", Kim Jong Un, has spent vast sums of money on nursing nuclear ambitions and on two rocket launches. Meanwhile, his people are often consuming their children since there is no other food. People on the boards love to wag their keyboard fingers at Israel, or Canada or the U.S. for the "mistreatment" of natives. This "mistreatment" and "exploitation" is particularly shocking. A 'hidden famine' in the farming provinces of North and South Hwanghae is believed to have killed up to 10,000 people and there are fears that incidents of cannibalism have risen. The grim story is just one to emerge as residents battle starvation after a drought hit farms and shortages were compounded by party officials confiscating food. ************************************** Despite reports of the widespread famine, Kim Jong Un, 30, has spent vast sums of money on two rocket launches in recent months. There are fears he is planning a nuclear test in protest at a UN Security Council punishment for the recent rocket launches and to counter what it sees as US hostility. ******************************************* The Sunday Times also quoted an official of the ruling Korean Worker's party as saying: 'In a village in Chongdan county, a man who went mad with hunger boiled his own child, ate his flesh and was arrested. jbg Posted January 31, 2013 Author Report Posted January 31, 2013 It would be nice if NK got some of the same criticism as imperfect democracies get. Michael Hardner Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 It would be nice if NK got some of the same criticism as imperfect democracies get. I agree that people are often too critical of democracies, and especially certain democracies - however those countries are open, and in range and conceivably are listening to what people think of them. NK is just a fortress of solitude, we have few weapons to keep them in line. Any communication that they make is often so ridiculous as to defy criticism. Black Dog Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 It would be nice if NK got some of the same criticism as imperfect democracies get. Why? I mean, we can take it as a given that places like that are awful. Criticism from us won't change that. Quote
