Jim Flaherty panned by business leaders

Business News Network, the Canadian business channel has just released its quarterly poll of Canadian business execs, conducted by the Gandalf group. 50% of business executives say they have little or no confidence in Jim Flaherty as Finance Minister. You can play the news item here - http://www.bnn.ca/articles/rob.tv/433/C-Suite-Special.tv

In spite of this, Flaherty says he is doing a good job and as proof, he is taking credit for the general uptrend in the economy. Others attribute this to greatly increased demand for Canadian resources and Buzz Hargrove was heard giving ol' Fibber Flaherty the big union raspberry for doing sweet nothing about problems in the Ontario economy.

Flaherty has also been trying to take credit for the fact that the big banks all got together to do something about the sub-prime mortgage meltdown. No doubt this is a great source of amusement on Bay Street this week.

Flaherty is busy handing out pictures of himself walking down a centre block stairway holding hands with Steve.

<<I was told by moderator Charles Anthony to edit the subtitle which originally said "The old fibber is on the ropes" because he thinks it is name-calling. This does not mean that Jim Flaherty is an honest man.>>

That is quite significant isn't it!

It does not bode well for the Conservatives for an election this fall.

IF Harper's gang doesn't do something about the manufacturing section it will affect everyone down the line. Exporters are feeling the high C$ and if the USA is going into a recession, what is Harper going to do about that???

Why is it the governments responsibility to do anything about it? Time for the manufacturers to be more productive.

sink or swim. Government should stay out of it other than to cut corporate taxes perhaps and take care of infrastructure.

It makes absolutely no difference to me ... one neo-liberal, another neo-liberal or a third neo-liberal ... all the same no matter what colour their lawn signs are.

What on earth is a neo liberal? Is it like a neo conservative? A former conservative who now believes in liberal policy?

What would you expect Harper to do about the US economy?

The 'manufacturing section' are the ones responsible for doing something about the 'manufacturing section'. They could start by making products that people want to buy.

And what did Chretien and Martin do about it?

Not sure but term must sound good. Has that nice anti-(fill in the blank) ring.
