White Doors Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 (edited) Not only sexist but elitist, and with that typical French insouciance towards security, defence and military matters. The French never think the military is important. Why, we should be spending that money on wine and cheese and poor people! But of course, when push comes to shove - which the French never seem to believe will happen - this lack of intestinal fortitude has made them international doormats for centuries. And yet still they retain their petulance! You gotta admire their stubborness. They were still complaining about some bridges we bombed in WW2 right up to a couple of years ago. August is surrounded by this stuff 24/7. He can't help but absorb some of it by osmosis. Edited August 31, 2007 by White Doors Quote Those Dern Rednecks done outfoxed the left wing again.~blueblood~
Wilber Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Given the discussion above, I'm inclined to think that two teenage boys are comparing the length of their skateboards.Wilber, let's be honest (and sexist). The police and military are peopled by men and men like motors and electronics. I think that it's fair to assume that we spend too much on this stuff. I don't. We ask these people to put their lives at risk on our behalf. I think it is fair that we give them the best tools we can so that they have a decent chance to do the jobs we give them and live to tell about it. We keep yelling to the world about how wonderful we are but continually cheap out on the people we depend upon for our security and to do our dirty work. Fortunata Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 They should have the best tools to do what they are asked to do. We, here, should also have the best tools, such as real icebreakers. We know the need is there yet we don't do it and it's not because the Cons aren't on a billions of dollars spending spree. Quote

Yes, but they spend more per capita than either us (300%) or the Brits (150% more) on military... so I'm going to say that was just a pigheaded comment. It seems like the facts say they take it alot more seriously than any English country other than the United States. Hmmm...http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/mil_exp_...gure-per-capita The French still like to see themselves as "world leaders" and yes, they are supremely arrogant and spend a lot on their military. That does not mean they have the intestinal fortitude to fight anyone who might bloody their noses. The French have been miserable failures at all things military for centuries. The French surrendered to the Germans in WW2 even though 90% of their military had yet to see combat. Nor have they done much since then. They have had a tendency to crawl a lot before the Muslims, whether it be Muslim leaders or Muslim terrorists. The French have been "accommodating" to anyone and everyone who might give them a slap. Their international behaviour veers wildly between overweening arrogance when dealing with western nations or weak third world ones, to cringing and fawning when dealing with Muslims. No to mention that when they do actually fight, it is usually the Foreign Legion that does it for them, all non-French. Quote
