Something different at the Minnesota State Fair.....The Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Sleek horses and riders in red make the Musical Ride a colorful show.

I particularly liked the Maple Leaf "branded" into the mount's hind quarter.

It's a cool show, but I really ought to wonder how much more effective they'd be in police cars on the streets rather than riding around at fairs.

They'er great for crowd control at demos......With their long lances hooligans quickly get the point that rock throwing is anti social behavior...

I've seen the musical ride; money well spent imo.

We happen to like our maple leaf with or without sweat dripping from it. You don't ... too bad. We don't care.

Don't you worry, a few years ago when I was visiting in Cranbrook the musical ride was there, a friend from Ontario driving one of the trucks. At the same time one of the big biker gangs from California arrived in town. All the riders were put on alert to be ready for action at any moment.

I later saw plain cloths cops following the bikers up through the pass at Fairmont. They are working.

I have no doubt margrace that they are working, but out here we are short police officers like crazy. Having them out riding horses is ridiculous.

I thought traffic cops should be the first to get cut back in time of shortage... then I remembered the musical ride.

If we had a surplus of officers in Canada, that'd be just fine for them to ride around. But we don't. Who signs up to be a cop to ride on a horse in a show? It makes way more sense just to hire a bunch of cheap kids to ride the horses and have the police actually policing.

I wonder if that actually is a brand, it looks more like the maple leaf is shaved into the hair....?

It's not a brand.

It looks like a really impressive show. I wish I'd have the opportunity to see it.

LOL! American Woman, you beat me to it!! :)

I made the mistake of reading alot of the site! Very interesting - sums up all you wanted to know about the RC 'Mounted' Police!

Says on their tour schedule they will be at the Vermont State fair in about a week - are you far from there?

Yeah, I am pretty far from there. :( I'll have to check out their tour, though. Might be something doable in it.
