BC_chick Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 I was reading an article about a book that was recently published, on how to "act" Canadian when abroad. Being a huge fan of play-on-words, I thought I would share - the book is called Faking Eh. I love it! I also wish the book Only in Canada, You Say: A Treasury of Canadian Language would have come out some time before my trip to Philly in the fall - I could have really benefited from knowing that Gravol is an exclusively Canadian word. I ended up looking like quite the jerk in several pharmacies down there. Alright, I'm off to the beach dressed in all red for a picnic celebration. All the best to my fellow Canadians. geoffrey Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 You think nationalism is an ugly beast, but provincialism is Ok? Nope, not really a fan of provincialism either. I'm drank beer from a company I have shares in (Big Rock) and ate steak from a local farmer I know, organic free range, so good. The Albertaishness of them was irrelevant I suppose, just saying I didn't pick them because they were Canadian, per say. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --

geoffrey Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Fair. I'm celebrating that Alberta is in Canada, therefore giving me some of the few advantages of having one of those blue passports. for example, uuhhh.... ummm... hmmm.... ya. I'm not particularly proud to be an Albertan... I am thankful, however, for how the politicans managed this province and setup a market that allowed me to have the opportunity I have had. If anything, I'm happy for the last few decades of Tory rule here. I'm definitely not a flag waving type though, regardless of whatever that flag is (I may wave a flag with my likeness on it, but that's it). It's foolish to be proud of something you have little to do with. Canada wouldn't miss any of us tomorrow. Why should we really be so 'proud' of it? What have you done for Canada? Hmmm.. Then consider yourself fortunate and free enough to wave a flag with your image on it. Slave on and don't take politics and Alberta pride so seriously. Anyway HAPPY DOMINION DAY! Quote
geoffrey Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Then consider yourself fortunate and free enough to wave a flag with your image on it. Oh, I do consider myself very fortunate to have been born in Canada and to have the chance to move to Alberta. But Alberta didn't accept me (I can move wherever I want in Canada), and Canada had no choice to whether or not I was born. So really, there was nothing either party could do. I can't just leave at age 2, and Canada can't really kick me out. So we're stuck with each other, for now. Catch my drift? I realise my opportunity is great being in Canada, but it wasn't Canada's choice to provide it so I really don't feel like I should thank it for doing so? Who is Canada anyway? gc1765 Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Oh, I do consider myself very fortunate to have been born in Canada... Exactly. I consider Canada Day a day to celebrate how lucky we are to have been born in (or be citizens of) Canada. Think of how lucky we are to be in Canada, rather than....say....Iraq. I'd say that's a good enough reason to celebrate Quote Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. capricorn Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 As time marches on, there are fewer and fewer countries in the world that I would want to be a citizen of. I count my blessings and thank my parents that I was born in Canada. I heard or read somewhere from those who believe in reincarnation that when you are re-born, the circumstances of your re-birth will be determined by how "good" a person you were in your previous life. If that is the case, I want to be re-born over and over again in this great Canada. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
