Argus Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Let me first point out the proper way to use this forum is to first read all the articles in a given thread before responding. There is little point in rebutting an earlier post using the same arguments someone else has already made. So you read through a thread, then you go back and respond to individual posts. What this means is that once you've posted a reply to one post, you immediately want to go to the next one you had mentally marked for response, and enter that, but flood control makes you wait because flood control times you from the moment you finish a post, to when you want to start a response to the next. Which is dumb. Flood control should start from when you post a response, to when you post the next response. This would maintain the same protection the site apparently feels it needs without inconveniencing or irritating its users. gc1765 Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 It's especially irritating when doing searches. I can understand not wanting people to post every 2 seconds, but what is the purpose of making people wait when doing a search? Quote Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable. - Jeffrey Sachs (from his book "The End of Poverty")

Forum Admin Greg Posted June 13, 2007 Forum Admin Report Posted June 13, 2007 It's especially irritating when doing searches. I can understand not wanting people to post every 2 seconds, but what is the purpose of making people wait when doing a search? To make them be more irritable so they'll put more snap in their posts? I can probably remove these flood controls and see what happens. However, I reserve the right to put them back in if I find spammers (and or other undesirables) abusing the search and posting features. Also, Keep me informed if you see any performance issues... That would be very great. The spammers we had earlier seem to have disappeared. I maintain, though that the sensible flood control yardstick would be from when you click "post" to when you click "post" not from "post" to "reply". gc1765 Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 I noticed the flood control is still in effect. Were there problems with it being removed? Forum Admin Greg Posted June 20, 2007 Forum Admin Report Posted June 20, 2007 I noticed the flood control is still in effect. Were there problems with it being removed? Nope! Sorry, I've going to be upgrading the forum tomorrow (Wed), and I was waiting till afterwards to turn off the flood controls. Thanks for your patience.
