During the Republican debates last night....

Weather Services International, Inc. reported several instances of lightning strikes throughout the debate, the effects of which could be heard a few times when some of the candidates’ microphones went in and out as they were speaking.

In a particular case of bad timing, lightning struck just as Giuliani was responding to recent comments from a Catholic bishop likening the former New York City mayor to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor who condemned Jesus to be crucified.

As his microphone buzzed in and out, Giuliani joked, “For someone who went to parochial schools all his life, this is a frightening thing that’s happening right now.”

The Republican party's Christian base had already vowed not to support him. He may not recover from this little misfortune.

Oh, oh, God is smiting him!

lol

Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

Too funny.

Something reagan realized: Ignore the religious right and go after the "reagan democrats". If the RR doesn't support Giuliani, who cares? What R they gonna do - vote for Hillary?

In terms of winning the nomination, though, I can see a the problem.

Too smart. US politics isn't like that. The Republicans will elect someone to focus on their religious right base and the Dems will elect someone to focus on their loony-left Rosie O'Donnell base.

Niether claims the middle because they just don't get it.

Reagan got it. Clinton got it.

Let's face it - America is always at it's best when it's "money first". Look at those two great decades: the 80's with reagan and the '90's with clinton.

How do we know it was because of Giuliani's abortion comment? Maybe it was a pre-emptive strike against Giuliani for his comment that, knowing what we now know, he still thinks that the Iraq war was a good idea

Think about it, there's nothing in the bible condemning abortion, but it says pretty clearly "thou shalt not kill"...

(and abortion wouldn't count as killing according to the bible, since Adam was not alive until he took his first breath...and fetuses don't breathe)

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

actually, both the Rethugs and the Dims give you just about the same product, both controlled by big business. The best way to control an arguement? Own both sides.

Wow, brilliant. I'm going to use that argument in the future, I hope you don't mind.

It's a weak theological argument, I've heard it before. Start another thread and I'll tear it to shreds on a theological basis (outside of my actual views on the subject).

Here's my advice, from a ignoring-the-issue-pro-lifer to a pro-choicer. Don't agrue with these guys on the Bible. You'll never win. Use that rationality that you have instead, you'll do much better, and have more fun when they start chasing their tails.

Trying to rationalise with your typical religious person is a waste of time.

Really, cause I have found that the only way to argue with a religious person is to use the bible. They won't listen to any other arguments. It's especially fun to use against Christians who support the Iraq war ;)

Nah. I think my point was more along the lines of just don't talk to them if they can't be rational people.
